"You have recieved an invite" NOOOO!! SHUDDUP!

Archive: 47 posts

Anyone who knows me knows that I usually like to play LBP alone most of the time. I have more fun knowing I can do anything without worrying if my friend is entertained. There's only a handful of people that I like playing with. Sure, it sounds a bit anti-social, but that's how I enjoy the game.

Well, often, I'll get a random friend request from a stranger who thinks I'm cool or something. I'm like, " alright, whatevs..." and I'll accept it. Then, shortly after, the person wants to join me, usually at time when I don't feel like being bothered. Since I'm a nice guy and I don't like offending anyone, I'll wait for the message to disappear instead of outright refusing it. Then, 30 seconds later, he wants to join again. So I wait for the message to go away... once again.

Somehow, the person doesn't "get" it, and he tries to join AGAIN. At that point, I'm very frustrated. So, even though I hate doing this, I delete him. Once in awhile, I get hate-mail following the deletion. One kid even told me he was going to kill himself. I blocked him.

The point I'm trying to get to here is I hate that there's no "not available" function in LBP. It would be nice to have the option of turning invites off. That way, I'm not interrupted every five minutes, and I don't have to delete invite spammers. If MM included this in a patch, it would make LBP soooo much more enjoyable for me.

You guys agree?

I couldn't agree more. While they're at it, get rid of the score reports. They should also make it so the invite/join alerts don't interfere with the gameplay. Perhaps they could move it off to the corner of the screen and allow you to use the control pad and select button to choose to join or accept when it appears on screen.2009-09-09 06:43:00

Thats exactly why I don't invite anyone, but I'd wish they didn't do it too me.

What would also be a good substitue is have the message pop up on the top screen kinda like when a person leaves (and is asking if you want to follow) and NOT have it make you stop your movemet, several times i got a game over cause i jumped off a gap when all of a sudden "XXXX has sent you an invite" *dies*.

Couple of times I wind up just logging off the PSN, when i load a level just so i don't get any invites or people joining.

I'm most annoyed by folks not realising that you could be busy, away from your ps3 or something else.

Then you get a PSN message: why wont you let me join, ya jerk?
Very frustrating to say the least.

I agree. It doesn't happen to me very often, but sometimes it's a nuisance in the least, and I've heard from people to whom it happens FREQUENTLY. It's not good times.

The good news is that Mm will patch this. There will be an option under settings that allows you to auto-decline invites. They're fully aware that it's an issue, so don't worry too much, it'll be fixed before long.

God yes, I've regretted added some people who send like 5 invites in a minute, then message saying 'let me join, waaahh' etc.

And then that same person messages me 'hello' and 'goodbye' EVERY time he logs on.

But yeah, we've umm... kinda lost touch

That's why I only add people I know into my friends list
Anyone that isn't a friend of mine or from these forums will not be on my friends-list.

Yep... most annoying at times. I usually just send a message saying I'm busy, but that doesn't work sometimes because of the stupid score reports that Reef1978 mentioned. With these messages popping up, it's almost impossible to hide that you're playing and would rather do so alone.

What we really need in tandem with this is a way to hide our status, so that people don't even know we're online playing.

I know what you mean...
A good amount of the people who've added me have basically just said 'hi can we play some time?'.
Most of the time I accept.
One guy added me saying 'hi i like your level you should know who i am' as if he's some celebrity or something, so I look at his levels and not one has over 10 plays, and all of them have a heart icon. So I deleted him.

I don't delete people now though, since my list is full and that way it stops anyone else from adding me

Oh, I agree 100 percent with you, Rajah.

I've also gotten the hate mail. The worst one ever was a guy who kept trying to join me. I politely sent him a message saying that I was creating and that I could play at a later date, maybe. I got a message back saying "oh, that's all right, and you don't have to send me a message when you reject the invite, okay ^_^"

Shortly after this, I was in create mode again and the guy tried to join me. Over and over and over and over again. I hit decline invite. I got a message about an hour later and I was gone from his friends list.

The worst part is that nothing works. You set your status as "unavailable" and put a message up that says "I CANNOT PLAY NOW" or "NOT HERE" and they still spam the heck out of your name.

I have faith that media molecule will hear our cries though, someday. I'd think that a "reject invite" feature is long overdue.

I'm right there with you Rajah. I spend most of my time in create mode, but when I do play levels, I prefer to play single player. It's not that I won't join up with friends every once in a while, but for the most part, I feel like I have a better experience alone. I can take my time and really experience the level.

Because of this, I often decline invites from friends. Most of the people on my friends list will send a message asking if I'm busy and are very understanding when I explain that I'm creating or busy. However, every once in a while, I will have someone continually send requests and messages demanding that I join or invite them. This usually results in their removal from my friends lists.

So, I'd love to have the ability to auto respond to invites.

I never ever play online unless I need or want to (which is rare), and I only play with people on this site. I will never want to play with someone who isn't...Unless he/she is a good creator and isn't an obnoxious kid who nags and nags other peeps to play with them...?__?'

Honestly, if someone does nag me, I instantly delete them. **** them. I'm busy.

I usually have a quick look down my friends list to see who's playing what, if they're busy or whatever before I do anything.
Personally I find the best thing to do is sign out.
Mostly when I'm making stuff I'm offline.

A lot of the times I'll have friends over and we'll be playing LBP locally. We want to play online levels, so we don't necessarily want to go offline.

That's why a "reject invites" would be the best possible scenario.

Yup, I only add people I know, and really would prefer even people on my PSN friends list send a message asking me if I could play instead of trying to join.

About half the time my PS3 is just sitting idle - I'm not even there at all, or my 7-year-old son is the one playing - or other times I'm trying to do something quick before getting back to work.

I enjoy playing with others sometimes, but I usually just like playing levels by myself or creating.

I have no one on list who spans now. They are all long gone. The ones I have know if I'm in create not to bother me, and if I'm playing after a request or two I want to be left alone. Even the couple of quite young freinds I have are respectful in that way.

It's worse when your playing with freinds and some one you don't know spams invites trying to join.

My friend Sarah and I were playing Nattura's egypt level and one of her friends kept spamming me. The level was unplayable because of it. She ended up having to delete this friend in order for us to play.

What an insular group we are here at LBPC. Not only do we spend our spare time festering indoors and alone with a joypad in our hands, but we resent it when a "friend" has the audacity to request that we remove ourselves from our zombie-state for long enough to take a stroll with the online community. To be honest, although I often have to turn people down because I'm in full creative flow, I also feel quite flattered that someone enjoys my virtual company enough to actively seek me out, so I'm more inclined to feel a bit guilty and send them a "sorry, but busy" message than to become irate that some irksome human has invaded my isolation tank. It can often be a great laugh playing with other people and I'd hate to find that I had alienated everyone around me with an irritable, "do not disturb" attitude.2009-09-09 21:57:00

It's more than that, Ungreth. I love playing online. For me, it's the people that don't understand when I'm busy or playing with local friends. The thing that really gets me are the people that have no regard for you and keep spamming the invite button, even when you've told them that you are unable to play at that time 2009-09-09 22:09:00

I'll agree that relentless hounding does get very annoying. Only happened to me once, but I eventually agreed to play and annoyed him back by playing inconsiderately, ie: constantly slapping him, stopping for no reason, removing his costume stickers, loling at his mistakes, causing him to die, etc. He eventually booted me and didn't invite me again.

lol, all my friends are so annoying. Has it ever happened to you that they click invite, then cancel invite, than invite, like THREE TIMES A SECOND AND YOU CANT FIGHT BACK. Plus my friends will say LEMME JOIN Y DO U H8 ME!?. Its really annoying. They think im their little playtoy minion.2009-09-09 23:37:00

Yes I completely agree, and to be honest, I do what you do sometimes. Just pretty much wait the invites out, though I do feel kind of bad, but I really don't want to be bothered most of the time, and what really annoys me is to see invites the moment I get on LBP. >.<

Here's another suggestion: Maybe instead of turning them off, there could be a small pop up at the bottom right corner of the screen that says "so and so wishes to join/invite you" but it doesn't interrupt your playing experience, and if you want to accept, then you can go to the start menu, and into messages, and accept it.

Usually I accept all my invites, even if I'm creating. It still annoys me though, especially when I'm playing a level online and in the middle of platforming.

I agree with everything xkappax said.

I have spammers on mine that I just don't have the heart to delete. If I say busy or can't right now I get guilt psn messages from a few of them....... Some of my worst spammers have learned not to and that's awesome but a few haven't figured it out yet.

I hate being available when other people just want to bother me.
I'm really kind, who played with me can confirm it, but sometimes I need my space without the need of a moral/ethic choice to refuse an invite just because I'm playing a level that I want to see with my pace/playtesting mine or other's levels/creating.

It's brutal that you have to refuse an invite.
It's just so unpolite.
You made me behave like a dork because you don't give me the chance to hide my status, my privacy, if we want to a greater extent.

That's one of the reasons I hate something so network based like XBL, and it's one of the things that I appreciate less/hate, in PSN.

It's not that I want them gone completely BasketSnake. When I have the time they are generally fun to play with and many just don't have any other friends online (I'm too big a softie - I know.) Your point is well taken though.

I think the worst is when it happens while you are working in Create Mode. Most of the time, I'll be working on something and pressing the X button frequently, and I'll accidentally select an invite. The game will ask me to save, I'll hit cancel, send them an "I'm busy" message and go back to work. By the time I go back to what I left off at, I've lost my train of thought and waste even more time trying to remember. The whole ordeal is frustrating to say the least, especially when it happens several times in a session.2009-09-10 21:53:00

MM should really make people unreachable at least when they're in create alone.

You can set yourself to 'unavailable' in the XMB menu. Of course most people won't notice that because they invite straight from LBP, but it could deter a few un-wanted invites.2009-09-11 11:44:00

I have several "inviters" in my friendlist
I always create offline, read messages without getting into LBP, I use an other account to play on my own...
I'm only online in LBP when "I'm ready to be invited"

I have many respectful friends in my friendlist, but some of them are a bit annoying... but I don't want to delete them cause they are good people anyway.

I fully agree with your original post Rajah, a 'not available' function would be fantastic.

Heres what gets me though; everyday i usually find 1 or 2 friend requests in my inbox. Unless i actually know the person i will never accept. Heres a few good reasons why i do that.

1. Like you said, endless invites to 'Join'.

2. Show off's. I accepted this one kid who seemed pretty cool to begin with, but then he was inviting all his friends and saying 'Look im friends with him, he's 'famous' (and i use famous in the loosest way possible) this was shortly followed by all his friends sending me requests.

3. The psycho's. Every once in a blue moon i will get a reply from someone i didn't accept. The messages usually go something like this.
Shock (at not being accepted) - please - begs- SPAM - anger - rage - murderous deranged quotes - blocked.

I wonder if these kids think that there the only ones sending a request?

^That.

I stopped taking requests from random people. If I get any nowadays I'll look at the person's levels and if they are at least average I'll probably accept. Most random friend invites are what A_Morton said.

I never accept a friend request unless I know who it is. I think that because of this, I've managed to stay clear of this spamming/begging crap. I also tend to add folk who are in their 20s or older. No offence to you young-uns, but I like to interact with people my own age.

I would have no problem blocking or deleting anyone who started sending me whiny messages asking me if I hated them. It wouldn't get as far as spam because it'd be one message before they were gone.

I am heartless mind you!

Age isn't so much of an issue for me, I've played with people ranging from 10-30+ and sometimes people on the younger end of the spectrum are actually more mature and constructive to whatever we are playing. This isn't to say older people are immature and can't play LittleBigPlanet right, I'm just saying you can't always judge a book by its cover, or a player by their age.

Sometimes friends trying to join or invite make the game unplayable. Either when im at a tricky section or trying to set a high score i get a friend message that blocks my controller input, usually resulting in death.

Im not sure what mm was thinking when they thought of the idea to have a message appear in the centre of the screen and completely prevent any control over the character.

Ive has similar experiences to morton where someone invites all his friends, which always results in them wanting to add me. The only time this doesnt happen is when the friend joining is another accomplished creator.

I never really receive spam invites. Really only because I'v got 16 people on my friends list and most of them are 'mature'

A 'Not Available' function would be extremely handy though. I'm with you on that one.

Ha, that has happened too many times to you....usually by people that have followed me awell. Sorry!

My advice for when a friend of a friend that bugs you is to just ignore them and let your friend explain why.
