LittleBigPlanet is both evolutionary and revolutionary. It set a completely new standard for community-created content on the console, and won countless awards in the process. It's gathered the attention of gamers and developers alike, impressing all who are lucky enough to play it. Now that the PS3 has dropped in price, this Game of the Year edition of LittleBigPlanet couldn't make more sense. This is essentially a re-release of LittleBigPlanet - a way for the newcomers to the world of Playstation to dive in to the deep community that LittleBigPlanet offers in a way that just isn't possible with the original LittleBigPlanet. For $60.00, you get the original LittleBigPlanet, every major DLC pack that has been released thus far, "over a dozen" costumes, and bonus community-created levels. Lets go over each of these extras in more detail, shall we? (click through for the rest!)

LittleBigPlanet Itself
We've already reviewed (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=3540) LittleBigPlanet, but for those of you who don't own it, we'll go over some of the key reasons why you should stop reading this review and just go buy it already (http://www.amazon.com/Little-Big-Planet-Game-Playstation-3/dp/B002ELCUUG):

A fantastic set of 50 story levels, which serve as a fun way to get started with the game and helpful inspiration when you decide to start using the Create mode. Not only that, but by playing through the Story mode, you can unlock a huge number of materials, stickers, objects, decorations, and costumes. Many of these are handed to you, while some of them require extra platforming skill or a few friends in order to claim them for yourself.
Over a million user-created levels. Obviously not all of these are amazing, but any LittleBigPlanet fan will tell you that there are tons upon tons of fun levels to play if you know how to find them. For example, LBPCentral's Level Showcase (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=40) and Cool Levels (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=81) pages are great ways to find new, high-quality levels to play.
A robust Creation mode which provides you with the same tools Media Molecule used to create the 50 story levels.
Consistent DLC. This may sound gimmicky, but Media Molecule knows how to provide substantial content. If you have any doubts, take a look at The Monster Kit (http://www.mediamolecule.com/2009/05/18/run-and-hide-here-come-the-monsters/), The History Kit (http://www.mediamolecule.com/2009/08/03/history-in-the-making/), and The Metal Gear Solid Pack (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/12/lbp-premium-level-packs-costume-packs-metal-gear-solid-edition-on-the-ps-store-1223/), all of which are included in LittleBigPlanet GOTY Edition.

Bonus Content
You're still here? You should be in line with a copy of LittleBigPlanet Game of the Year Edition (http://www.amazon.com/Little-Big-Planet-Game-Playstation-3/dp/B002ELCUUG) in your hand. Why aren't you?

The Monster Kit (http://www.mediamolecule.com/2009/05/18/run-and-hide-here-come-the-monsters/), The History Kit (http://www.mediamolecule.com/2009/08/03/history-in-the-making/), and The Metal Gear Solid Pack (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/12/lbp-premium-level-packs-costume-packs-metal-gear-solid-edition-on-the-ps-store-1223/) which (altogether) add 5 new story levels, two "gallery" levels, new game upgrades (such as the Paintinator), 26 objects, 22 materials, 49 decorations, 308 stickers, 3 backgrounds, lots of new music (both interactive and standard), and tons of new sounds. It may sound like a bunch of numbers, but trust me - when you're creating in LittleBigPlanet, you want options, and this really helps start off newcomers on the right foot.
Four new costume packs: Animals Costumes (http://news.littlebigworkshop.com/en-us/post/2008/11/LBP--PS-Store-111308.aspx) (not including the Motorstorm Costume), Monster Costumes (http://www.mediamolecule.com/2009/05/18/run-and-hide-here-come-the-monsters/), History Costumes (http://www.mediamolecule.com/2009/08/03/history-in-the-making/), and Metal Gear Solid Pack Costumes (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/12/lbp-premium-level-packs-costume-packs-metal-gear-solid-edition-on-the-ps-store-1223/). Each pack contains 4 costumes, which means you get a whopping 16 new costumes to dress up your Sackboy with.
As an added bonus, if you buy a copy soon you are guaranteed exclusive access into the ModNation Racers Online Beta. For more information on ModNation Racers, visit ModNation.com (http://www.modnation.com/). If you're looking for a ModNation Racers fansite, we've already got one set up! Eighteen Exclusive Community Levels
What do we have to say to convince you? Isn't all that new DLC enough to be worth picking up a copy (http://www.amazon.com/Little-Big-Planet-Game-Playstation-3/dp/B002ELCUUG)? No? Fine:

Sony and Media Molecule have enlisted the help of eighteen of LittleBigPlanet's best Creators, so you're getting the cream of the crop in terms of quality and fun. All of these levels are exclusive to the GOTY edition, so currently the only way you can play them is by buying the GOTY edition or hoping a friend picks it up and lets you play the new levels with them. Each level also has a video interview with its creator, so you can gain some insight into some of the best Creators LittleBigPlanet has to offer before you play their levels for yourself. This is probably the best part of the GOTY edition, as it shows newcomers exactly what the community is capable of and will help convince some to get started with Creation themselves.

Until The Cows Come Home by geosautus

Final Verdict
Let me make this clear: If you currently own LittleBigPlanet, this new copy is likely not worth your money. You can buy the DLC separately, and if you can find a friend with the GOTY edition, you can play the bonus community-created levels with them regardless of whether or not you own them yourself. However, if you don't own LittleBigPlanet and you have even the slightest interest in the game, go pick up LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year Edition. There really is no better way to finally get involved with this amazing game and its community.

So? What are you waiting for? Go buy it! (http://www.amazon.com/Little-Big-Planet-Game-Playstation-3/dp/B002ELCUUG)

It sounds like RangerZero and Jagrevi will be picking up copies... at least that's the impression I got from the other thread.

Screenshots don't do them justice. I've played nearly all of them, and so far I've enjoyed them all. Most of these levels had a storyline to them, and I had trouble picking screenshots that were both representative of the level and non-revealing. These are what I ended up with, though the Creators of the levels are more than welcome to specify a different screenshot of their choosing.

If it's alright, mind showing the Samurai?

I can totally see him having an issue finding good pics to take of the levels, especially if they use a lot of lighting effects. They all get dropped when you use the screenshot mode, which is lame. =(

If you heart any of these levels, can we just go into your hearted list and just access them there? Or is not as simple as that?

I don't understand why everyone thinks "Hey, if you don't own it, just play with someone that does." A lot of people would probably prefer playing a level on their own time and so they can do anything they want in the levels without worrying about what the other player(s) want to do. Yes, playing with others is fun, but having that be the only way you can play a level just doesn't cut it sometimes. So for a fan of LBP, it is worth $60, plus the MNR beta and so on.2009-09-09 09:27:00

Yes, definitely the list is what really interest around here, since everyone has the game already and every European won't have the game.

Not really. The Sprializer was all about staying in the maze without slipping out, whereas in the Tumblerizer its pretty easy to avoid falling, but you've got to avoid stuff inside the maze (rocks, burning coals, flaoty electric things). It gest pretty crazy after a couple of minutes when the maze is full of stuff rolling around all over the place. It's also bigger, spins more, and has the added bonus of changing direction every couple of minutes.

What i'd like to know is if the save game is compatible both ways.

GOTY edition can read the save file from the normal edition but can the normal edition use the save file again once you saved using GOTY ?

Also, since it must read the LBP game data, It means I would save place on my HDD by deleting my current game data and redownloading it afterward since now there's some DLC on the disk right? Or maybe that DLC is only "unlocked" by the GOTY version and there's no actual data for it on the disk?

I was thinking that it would have been great if the '18' had been given all new stickers/materials/objects etc to work with which could then be collected in their levels. It would have made a good DLC pack for those who aren't prepared to buy the game again for what amounts to 18 levels we could have played online for free in other circumstances.2009-09-09 20:12:00

EDIT: To clarify, this thread has progressed quite a bit since this post 4 hours ago as of this notice, and the following questions are now very, very obsolete. Please do not feel the need to respond to them - I will leave them be though simply for record of how the thread conversation progressed.

Ok, these are my questions right now.

1) Can we CONFIRM that non GOTY can't get prizes from the levels. (Positive that it is not gotten even when "community objects" are set to "on"?)

2) What are these prizes?

3) Is anyone with GOTY "giving tours" of it today, so-to-speak?

Nice review. Must of took you a while to write.

No, it hasn't, but LittleBigPlanet (at least - it might be all PS3 games) is region-free, so it will work on any console. However, I'm not sure if the DLC will work with a non-US account - if I'm wrong, feel free to correct me.

1) I can't confirm that yet - I haven't purposefully tested it.

2) They're just objects made by the Creators of the levels, much like the objects you'd find in a regular community-created level.

3) No, I'm not. Forgive me, I don't have the time nor the patience to play through every level over and over again.

Yes - but note, they're in the same area of your menu as the MM created items, under a new tab labeled "Community Objects".

Also - those questions of mine you're answering are very obsolete. I'll go make an edit to point that out.

I'm playing through hearted lists and have collected (and played with on my moon) the objects contained in the levels.
Wow. Well, I'm not sure if the intention was to allow these levels to be played so easily, but it seems that's a moot point now. At least the loud noise about how the exclusivity of these levels is "unfair" will go away. :arg:

True, but what we may now get is people complaining that they rushed out and bought something that they didn't realize they didn't even need to buy.

Well, "buyer beware", I guess. Even a small amount of research will yield this info now that it's out in the wild. As I said in the review, this version is definitely not intended for anyone who already owns a copy of LittleBigPlanet, so only those that based their purchase decision on misinformation or no information will have reason to complain.

You know - I bought it and even though it doesn't appear that I had to to get the level access but I can play them whenever I want so there's that. Also I don't mind spending the money on a game I really love.

I've been taking some people through the levels today but yea, I'm only one person and space is limited. I'll try to heart some of the cooler ones if people want to check my list in a little while.

Well, me and NightAngel just played 8 of the levels, and I filmed and hearted them. The first is rendering right now, so I should have half of them up by tomorrow, and the rest will be done by Friday or Saturday.2009-09-10 02:16:00

Nope - I finished that fine. Are you sure that you simply didn't overlook what you needed to do?

Wait - right after the first elevator up? Did you tilt the white thing in front of you right or left? It has two grabable handles, one on each side, so you can tilt it left or right.

Playing the other 17 levels now, I'd have to say so far I feel pretty outdone. Maybe its just that I've played mine a million times, but it just doesn't seem to even be in the same class. Hats off to all of the other creators, these levels have solid style, design, and pacing.

And yes, denim is spelled wrong in the description to In Search. I only noticed last week...

Yeah that's the room. I figured it had something to do with those sponges so I was pushing the, pulling them, swinging from them and jumping from them and got nothing. I need to give it another go to see what I was doing wrong.

Ouch, looks like they spelled my name wrong. Seems they assumed my first name was also "Jonathon," like Seitz. Close enough I guess, still cool to be in the credits.

Edit: I'm working with Sony to have my "denim" typo fixed and my name spelled correctly. Seems like they can do both pretty easily, which is great.

Congrats to all my community brethren who made the cut to get on the GOTY edition of LBP. I've been playing a lot of your levels and it's great to see such a range of designs and talent. We should all team up and create something once on-line create gets going.

No official news on that yet. My speculative answer would be "yes", but since there has been no official word, then we must assume that GOTY is currently the only way to access the beta test at the moment. Consider registering with the official ModNation Racers beta info mailout (http://www.us.playstation.com/modnation/ModNationBeta.aspx), which will send you an email any time there's new information about the MNR beta test.

It's a cool included thing for new players of LittleBigPlanet to get a taste of the kinds of content you can build, built by normal people like you and me. I like the idea.

I saw that yesterday. I realized they made the mistake because the spelling in the sub-titles of your intro and the credits was different. I was just showing a friend of mine and was like "oh no, they spelled his name wrong." That's cool that they're willing to try to fix that for you. Your level is pretty awesome. Congrats!

I wrote them a while ago after sending in my final build of my level to ask if they could make the ONE music tool invisible. It was the one thing I forgot to fix, but they didn't and it's really not that big of a deal so oh well.

I finally got to creating a play through of my level after writing Sony to get permission. (I didn't want to break any rules) They were cool with it so I included some quick outtakes of the interview that my friend filmed while they were here.Check it out...

So far, GOTY has been decent in my experience...like the new screensaver (has the random 3 or 4 sampler clips from the DEMO, I think) also, most of the levels are decent to great...but some are painful to play through (for completionists like me who must get all the prizes). Speaking of which... um I guess most of the prizes are good, if I were to be modest ^_^... Hate the flashing 'Bonus' next to story (takes longer to tab over to my moon)... the bonus content folder is essentially the same as going down to 'my content', so if the levels are added as DLC, don't know how that will 'seamlessly' work out. All in all, its nearly identical in scope and glitchiness to the original! Just glad I got a good trade in value on the old one, and traded a couple older games for it, so it was um...'free' basically...and thats a good thing, seeing as how I would be somewhat dissatisfied with the purchase otherwise...2009-09-15 15:00:00

This list was from this very thread and i used it as a kind of recommendation:

In Search by Lokno
Prism Panic by Aardsy
Evil Duckies by AchillesPDX
tube racer 2 by xingyi
The CAT BURGLAR by candyjunky
PANDAmonium by Cstrfrk
The GREAT GRATUITOUS RAID of GOBLIN-BERG by thekillermiller

Cereal Isle by TangoCharlieESQ
Watermill Valley by jump_button
Mighty Mite LBP8 Little Big Moutain Mission by rz22g
TAKLAMAKAN 'Go and never comback'
Stone by o-terra
Beavercows' Insomnia by Blorf
The Steampunk Samurai by gevurah22
Bunnies in Space by Foofles
Tales of the Little Big Crystal by X-NOBODY-X
Until the Cows Come Come - geosautus

This may be a very dumb question, so sorry in advance

Yesterday, i searched for any of these 18 community levels ONLINE within LBP (Standard Edition, as i don't live in North America )
and couldn't find any of them - i searched by text and by author but these levels seam to be gone.

Are they online available on the GOTY-Disc from now on? What's with the Community-Thought. I sense an evil Scheme by the Collector ...

Thanks for that hint, man!

I thought you can find ANY Level that's "Online" within the network, by typing in it's name or by browsing through the author's creations (found by the "@authorname" search) but that didn't help here. I found any level from the Recommendations Sub-Forum that way!

Dumb Question #2: Where can i find someone's hearted list? My own, the ones from my added friends?

just go to "me" on the infomoon, and press R1 to go to the next page etc.

or if you want to see a friends list, go to "my friends" on the infomoon and do the same.

Nooo don't look at ANYONE'S (Apart from your own) hearted page! You obviously haven't noticed the newest LBP bug where when you look in someone else's hearted page it automatically hearts all those levels and it's very frustrating!! 2009-12-31 15:55:00

Aha! Didn't know this. I always found my already played or hearted levels through "search" and "recently played".

But shouldn't i nonetheless be able to find any Level that's online with the search tool if i know it's exact name and/or author?

Yeah you can find any level apart from the GOTY levels. And because of the reason i said earlier it's probably best to search them unless you have hearted them

Ok! I haven't hearted them before the GOTY was out - so ...

This would mean I can't play them because i can't find them online (as you said) and don't find them by searching for them (as i did).. ?

Boy! Now I'm REALLY confused
