The Witch Queen needs a hero! Depart from Sackville in response to her summons and descend into the deepest recesses of her castle. Your adventure takes you through a magic crystal mine, a Frankensteinian laboratory, and the Witch Queen's sensuous boudoir! Discover the castle's gruesome secrets and do battle with its imposing gatekeepers!

This is my second level and represents several months of work, off and on. I think that veteran players might find it a little short, but I really wanted to offer a streamlined, punchy experience that showcased the crazy creatures and objects I created. Not to mention that I was battling a maxed-out thermometer for, like, half the time I constructed the level.

Anyhow, I hope you like. This is my very first post, and I appreciate whatever feedback I can get.

Hi friend !

What I did was take my digital camera, snap some pictures during my playthrough of my level and then uploaded the pictures with image shack online.

worked best for me that way, hope it helps

I will try your level in a minute

Can you tell me one thing? what does F4F stand for ? I seem to be noticing this a lot in multiple posts but cannot figure out what it means lol.

if possible, please beta test my level under construction space fortress and comment as well

I first must say, the visuals in the level were outstanding! Very well done, the use of stickers, objects and decorations was amazing!

Ok from the top.

I first loved how you had little jokes at the start, the one about the zipper and how you always go to the right (made me chuckle), as the secret area at the top of the waterfall was a nice touch too.
I loved it how the creatures peek out, my first imprison was "what was that!?". You could connect the switch to a permanent switch so the monsters only appear once, so it gives that mysterious feeling to the player, instead of it popping out every time the player goes past the proximity switch.

The statue idea was pretty cool, although the statue looked NOTHING like the queen, it was still a pretty cool idea.
The bed room was neat too, how the pillows squeak and how huge the bed was a laugh for me. The little puzzle in the room was also cute and lovely.
The puzzle with the gargoyles was pretty basic for me, but some beginner players might have trouble jumping on the gargoyles, you might want to fix that.

The part after you meet the first monsters, and then when you jump down into a (machine thing??) i think you should add a statue there. It was first not obvious for me how to do the puzzle. You could try lowering the sponge a bit more because i was constantly jumping to get to it but I was jumping at the wrong place, so i kept on falling, eventually I thought i was just supposed to fall down into the pit... so a kinda died liked 20 times trying to get what i have to do.
So you might want to add a statue there telling the player to grab the sponge.

The next area was pretty neat, how you had diamonds coming out of the wall, how did you do that? it was very well done!
I also liked how the theme changes from medevil? to urban/underground/sewage. The change was very natural.

The boss part though, sadly I couldn't finish due to the lack of instructions....
Like i said earlier, you might want to have the statue telling the player what to do. I was spinning the wheel and grabbing that crane thing... but nothing happened I spent around 10 mintues do the same thing... but nothing happened, so I finally just started jumping around everything seeing if I can get anyway... but finally i just game up.

It's a great level... but due to the lack of instructions i gave it 3 :star:.
It's still a great level, and if i was able to finish it I would probably give it 4 :star:.

Thanks for the feedback, snowyjoe. It helped a lot.

I just revised the level based on the problem you were having with the first boss and republished. I think I've made the procedure for defeating him more explicit...Basically, just keep turning the wheel until the alarm sounds and the lights go off, then pull the chain. After that, the level is, I think, pretty straight-forward.

I think I'm going to leave the gargoyles as is for now: I know it might be a little tricky, but there is plenty of room on the second statue, and I placed an infinite checkpoint right before the obstacle...

Next time I load up the game, I'll likely lower the sponge a tad, as you suggest, and maybe turn the grab switch to "visible" so that players know what I want them to do. I made it so that it's doable with a full running jump from the very edge of the drop. It's hard to know what others will find difficult, so getting some good commentary like this is fantastic.

Cheers;

Nick

Just like snowyjoe I bailed at the boss, but today I replayed I it was no problem. I liked how the bosses were introduced. The names they have reminded me of the boss names in Majora's Mask. Was this an influence? Pretty good level. I found no other problems or anything to report. Nice work!2009-09-13 00:03:00

I did have Legend of Zelda in mind with the introductions to the enemies, though that style of naming derives, I'm pretty sure, from Japanese tokusatsu films and TV shows. I was originally going to have their names emitted as an object, but the thermo simply didn't allow it.2009-09-13 02:41:00

Thought this was a wonderful fairy tale beautifully mad. Your characters are fantastic - especially thre frogs (omg cute!) What you have to do to them is darkly funny though. Made me laugh a lot. Only trouble I had was mentioned above. Getting from the platform down to the machine. I knew I should grab the sponge but couldn't reach it. I ended up flinging myself down and hoping for the best.

Cool boss fight and the lighting is excellent! My only complaint would be I wanted more of it. But thermo being what it is I understand why length is sacrifieced for visuals (I do that too.)

Really enjoyed this one a lot. 5 stares & hearted. Thanks for sharing it!
