WATERWORLDmistervista2 http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss273/specialagent_01/Waterworld%20level/th_mistervistainWaterworldhut.jpgEmbark on a fruitful journey through a lush tropical landscape. all This is my first 'proper' level on my new account. A platforming level set in a beautiful environment showcasing some decent water effects ( which unfortunately don't show up on these screen shots ) that can be achieved without the need for 'real' water. A few hidden prizes and bubbles for the explorers out there. Sorry, I'll have to limit the F4F's I can return to the first 6 this time as I still have lots to do from my PLASMAVILLE level before that account got banned. If anyone is still waiting for returned feedback please PM me as I'm having trouble keeping track of which I've done and which I haven't. Many apologies if I haven't done yours yet. http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss273/specialagent_01/Waterworld%20level/Inthetreetops.jpg http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss273/specialagent_01/Waterworld%20level/Applesteps.jpg http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss273/specialagent_01/Waterworld%20level/Bananabridge.jpg http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss273/specialagent_01/Waterworld%20level/Branchswings.jpg http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss273/specialagent_01/Waterworld%20level/Drippy.jpg http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss273/specialagent_01/Waterworld%20level/Hutandcookingpot.jpg http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss273/specialagent_01/Waterworld%20level/OrangeFalls.jpg http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss273/specialagent_01/Waterworld%20level/Waterfall.jpg I hope you enjoy it. Thanks. | 2009-09-09 02:17:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
I'll check it out later tonight, looks really good =) Btw, my I ask why your original account was banned? | 2009-09-09 03:00:00 Author: TheFirstAvenger Posts: 787 |
I'll answer that for him, as he has gone to bed for the night... He had an issue where someone hacked into his initial account and charged a bunch of DLC to his saved credit card. He figured he might as well download the things that were purchased, but was pretty unhappy as they weren't things he wanted. Then, his credit card company did its best to sort it out, but then Sony accused him of "cheating the system" or some bogus claim like that. They therefore banned his account. Let's hope he gets it back. On topic - I'm off to play the level. It'll be the last of the night. Consider yourself lucky . I also added your secondary account on PSN a little bit ago . Edit: I was afraid this was going to happen. Since this is the first level on your new account, I can't find it anywhere. Will you do me a favor and accept the friend request so that I can play it. | 2009-09-09 03:49:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Thanks comphermc. I will add you asap. Just to correct something you said about my other account being banned. I only downloaded about ?7 worth of the stuff the hacker bought and then only after the Playstation Network rang me and told me to because it would just sit there forever and I couldn't get a refund so may aswell use it, even though it was all stuff I didn't want. | 2009-09-09 11:49:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
The level looks very cool, and your stuff has always wonderful gameplay, so I'm totally in it. I don't know if I will manage to play it before tomorrow evening perhaps, but I'm really looking forward to do it ASAP. | 2009-09-09 12:38:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
The minute I saw the beautiful entrance into Waterworld I knew I was in for a visual treat. Stunning waterfalls, gorgeous scenery and beautiful colours, combined with delightful gameplay and classic mrv humour make playing this level a fun and memorable experience. I really love this level and congratulate you on your outstanding ability to create levels that have an amazing feel good factor. Icey | 2009-09-09 20:37:00 Author: IceMaiden Posts: 1057 |
Really liked the beginning part of the level, all the platforming that came after was good 4 Stars and a heart =) | 2009-09-10 00:35:00 Author: TheFirstAvenger Posts: 787 |
I can't play right now, but the second I'm on LBP I'm playing this level! Just the screenies look visually amazing, and it seems like it will have a good playing flow like your other levels I'll edit this post when I play. | 2009-09-10 03:01:00 Author: goldenclaw13 Posts: 224 |
eh i didnt quite see the point...it was just grab this fruit and you can cross...rinse and repeat...repeat...again...then hey lets take a ride in some random floating boxes to the scoreboard. oh and waterworld? more like fruit world considering it revolved around fruit... now you had awsome scenery and i give you credit for that but without a story, or any real peril at all, this was a big snore... sorry for the nasty report but i wouldnt be helping if i didnt say whats on my mind | 2009-09-12 02:03:00 Author: Littlebigdude805 Posts: 1924 |
That's ok dude, we don't all like the same things. It's called Waterworld because of all the waterfalls in it and it was made purely as a simple platforming level with the design being the main focus. If you're more into hardcore levels that are practically impossible to get through try Dimo1138's levels. I'm perfectly happy being the exact opposite of him thanks. | 2009-09-12 02:35:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
robo rampage? bleh got threw the first one but couldnt stand much more annoying difficulty, ide prefer this one over that. Maby you didnt get my message though, action and adventure, although fun, arent needed in this kind of level but it would be more fun if there was some kind of story or direction to it or atleast make even more scenery to make up for it. | 2009-09-12 03:15:00 Author: Littlebigdude805 Posts: 1924 |
This is a beautiful level. The water effects were great. I particularily liked Drip the fairy. You seem to have developed a fondness for japanese-created levels and I think it shows through a bit in this one. It was just pretty and strange enough to give me that vibe (especially the fairy). As usual it seems I don't have any comments on the gameplay in general, just a few detail ideas to throw your way- see if you like em. -It may sound crazy but I was hoping that the orange falls would actually turn orange when I completed the puzzle. I'm also a big fan of sound effects- the swinging strawberries were fun, what if they made some kind of sound when you grabbed em? Anyways, great level you got going here. | 2009-09-12 05:18:00 Author: squirlin Posts: 224 |
All I can say is I loved it. Loved the water effects and the nice fruit. Gameplay was fun but nothing special. Liked the fish part... poor fishie. All in all, 4 stars, tagged pretty. | 2009-09-12 13:42:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
I played this a few days ago, and just played it again to refresh my memory. Levels don't have to be cutting-edge this-and-that. They don't need to have hardcore battles or puzzles. Sometimes, it's what a level DOESN'T have that makes it decent. Waterworld is a perfectly solid, visually appealing level, which invites the player to enjoy the environment and have fun with the theme. It's not going to wrack anyone's brain, or cause any undue cramp through button mashing. What it does do, is charmingly introduce the player, and invites them to explore and enjoy at their leisure. I loved the fruit themes, and a loved the waterfall features. You won't find any bombs, missiles, impossible jumps or a race against time. But what you will find is a simple, relaxing, sumptuous level that will hopefully make you smile. Very nice indeed. | 2009-09-12 13:59:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |
Alright MrV, I promised some feedback: Keep in mind that this is personal opinion. Our ideas of what makes a great level will most likely differ. That being said, I wasn't a huge fan of this level. I liked the intro with "Waterworld" being spelled out diagonally, but I couldn't help feel that it went very slowly. Knowing the name of the level already, I knew what it was supposed to say, so it might not hurt to make it go a bit faster. The water effects were pretty good, but they aren't the greatest I've seen. Off the top of my head, I can think of AAAlone's water level and jump_button's goty level that did some things really well. Having never tried to make a waterfall before, I don't really have any suggestions. The fruit were cute, but it was a bit confusing. Why were the fruit there, etc? I agree that your level seems to be showing some Japanese influence. I will say that the mechanisms where the platforms lift out of the blue gas was well done, but some people won't notice some of them, as they move when they are out of sight. I did like the little "fairy" thing that popped up to give direction. Japanese influence? The ending seemed kind of abrupt. That may just because the level wasn't very challenging and was pretty easy going. It was also a bit anticlimactic. Not to sound rude, but what has the player accomplished in the level by the time they reach the scoreboard? (that's a legitimate question that every creator should ask themselves when they make a level) Most of the above were minor nitpicks, but my biggest complaint was how spread out the level was. It may just be my preference, but it seemed like there were large chunks of level where I was just running horizontally to the right, with no purpose but to the get to the next section. Again, it may be just me, but I prefer tight, concise player paths, not sprawling, somewhat-empty paths. I apologize for the amount of negative feedback I seem to have written. I feel pretty bad . Your levels seem to appeal to a very casual audience, in which I probably don't belong. Regardless, thanks for sharing. I believe I gave the level 4 stars, but tagged it slow. | 2009-09-12 14:14:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
I loved almost every minute of it, it had such a lively feeling to it. My only gripe is that I felt that your level was so large, that certain areas felt empty and devoid. Perhaps constricting the level down to a tighter, more focused design would've worked better. Also, the waterfall effects have a lot to be desired, but I can show you some tips for that myself All in all, I'd definitely recommend this level because it's well paced, lively, and very fun. I'm planning on showing this level to my friends tonight, it's a good level to showcase | 2009-09-12 17:18:00 Author: Aurongel Posts: 221 |

Thanks squirlin, although I didn't make a conscious decision to 'go japanese' at all I do love the japanese levels and played some recently with gorgeous design so maybe something in my subconscious led me in that direction. I never thought of having the falls turn orange, good idea. That was just my sense of humour there again because the orange 'falling' raised the platform. Good idea with the strawberries having sounds too. I daren't put anything else in the level now though because I got the overheating message several times and when I first published the level to play it was broken. The wobble bolts on 'Drippy' had stopped working and I thought I was going to have to painstakingly move the level to another moon but MrsSB's suggestion saved me having to do that. I had to slow the bolts down and make new ones with slower speeds to be emitted and then they worked. They don't look as good slower but I didn't have much choice. Also near the finish i kept getting a message saying 'there is too much complexity in this area'. I've never seen that one before so as the last thing I put in were some sound effects I took them out again. I tried putting some more back in again the other day but got the complexity message again so had to abandon the idea. I can't risk the level breaking again !! comphermc; I liked the intro with "Waterworld" being spelled out diagonally, but I couldn't help feel that it went very slowly. I have the brain speed set to 4.0 which I think is the maximum so there isn't much I can do about that is there?? I have played those levels already and although they have their own art style and look very cute I was going for a more 'real water' feel which I honestly think I achieved. I've never seen better in any level I've played. I am truly amazed that you and Aurongel don't think so. Aurongel; My only gripe is that I felt that your level was so large, that certain areas felt empty and devoid. Perhaps constricting the level down to a tighter, more focused design would've worked better. I'm surprised at that because I did make a conscious decision to avoid empty sections as much as possible. I tried to put each section as close together as I could but without having them right on top of one another. My own preference when playing any level is to be able to take a few steps and activate a checkpoint between each section. I really hate it when you're forced from one obstacle straight into another without any respite. Also as the level was all about design I wanted players to be able to stop and admire it without having to hurry on. | 2009-09-12 17:41:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
Ohh, I will play it, I just hope that your account shows up in the search. I can't find my Moonwire account when I am searching on it either. | 2009-09-12 17:59:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
MrV, it's nearly without hesitation that I say that this is your best level by far. I really loved it. I loved the atmosphere, I loved the set pieces and the puzzling game mechanics. I just had some problem with the strawberries since sometimes it's tricky to ungrab the one you're swinging and grabbing the next one, many times I re-grabbed the same one. Great intro by the way, maybe a little slow, and the passage through the waterfall was awesome. 5 stars and a heart. | 2009-09-13 07:12:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Yes i've tweaked those strawberries dozens of times to try and reach a happy compromise between being too easy or too difficult. I did make the upper ones easier as it's further to fall and I didn't want players falling all the way down and getting frustrated at having to do it all over again. I know that sort of thing annoys me. I used mrsv as playtester as she is very new to LBP and still getting to grips with all the controls and she managed it ok and even managed to ace it so I thought it didn't need making any easier. If I get more negative feedback about that part though I will look at changing it for sure. I don't want any parts of my levels to be frustrating so will alter any that are if possible. | 2009-09-13 13:10:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
Actually you didn't fall, you only grab again the same strawberry, so it's not a gameplay problem, it just slower the pace a bit. | 2009-09-13 16:26:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Normally I prefer action themed levels, with impossible jumps and enemy chases, so I knew after 1 min of gameplay, that this level wasn't quite for me. But I continued playing, cause, y'know, I knew that the author was from LBPC, and that's always a highlight. After that, I discovered myself enjoying a leve that was -to me- practically empty. It was simply... nice. Nice looking, relaxed, calmed... I didn't have fun but I definetely had a great time, and there were no puzzles on wich I could get frustrated, or anything like that. So, I won't say that thi level stunned me, but I really loved playing it, even if it hadn't what I normally look for in a level. +Nice visuals, not overdecorated +Fruits +Easy going level, overall +Not a single glitch -Not my type of level I rated it 5 stars, altough I feel that it would deserve 4 (keep in mind that 4 of 5 it's really good!). I think it deserves 4 because it was good, but It didn't stun me, but I rated it 5 because it's still way better than many things on cool pages. | 2009-09-13 20:50:00 Author: Keldur Posts: 628 |
Thanks Keldur, I really appreciate your feedback especially as it's not your type of level. I would have loved to put much more gameplay in and even planned to put in a village with characters once you got up to the treetops but unfortunately fell foul of the dreaded thermo again with it's 'overheating' and 'too complex' warnings. | 2009-09-13 21:01:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
mrv, Waterworld has turned out to be exactly how you planned it. An easy going, relaxing journey through a lush landscape with beautiful scenery. Drippy is very cute with her fluttering wings, popping up here and there to offer a few words of help. Catching the fishie must be timed just right, or he drags you down into the depths of his pool. As you know, I love the little huts you have sprinkled though the level and they provide marvellous photos, with sackpersons welcoming you at the door or peeping out of the windows. I know I'm biased, but I love this level. It doesn't need a story, it's just a pleasant ramble through a lovely environment. Well done mrv. | 2009-09-15 15:54:00 Author: mrsvista Posts: 755 |
Checked this out the other day and enjoyed it. I have to say your color choices are bright and friendly and the opening sequence with the name is just beautiful. It's a bit slow making your way down it and I wonder if done in a smaller scale it would have been just as impressive - just a thought I had. The fruit is funny and sweet. I thought the strawberries were fun especially. The apples were a little static for my taste. I think what you've done with this level is tapped into a group of players we all wish we could get to play our levels. You've managed, it seems, to have lots of "mainstream" players really enjoying this level (the play count makes me think this) and that's pretty awesome! I think I preferred your plasma world level over this one as I like a little more action as well but if players are looking for a pretty, relaxing and easy to finish level this is a great one to play. I gave it 4 stars but really did enjoy it for what it was intended for - a relaxing and sweet level. | 2009-09-17 04:40:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Thanks Morgana. I couldn't make the font any smaller without it losing detail unfortunately and the vehicle is set to max speed of 4. I did make this specifically to show those players you mention that 'real water' is not out yet and showcase what you could do without it. I just got sick of seeing all the 'cheat levels' saying they had 'real water' and getting 50-60000 plays in a couple of days and just conning people. I would have explained that in the level description but there isn't room for enough text. | 2009-09-21 19:57:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
I finally got around to playing this one. Here are some thoughts: Pros: - Visually the water looked great.. especially the waterfall that curves down and to the left - However, my favorite part was when you go behind the 2 waterfalls - Cool little puzzles that people won't notice if they just run through the level as fast as they can - I love when creators add secrets to the level - it's because of the secrets that made me play it again and scored 3rd place I died once for no reason where the red switch and apple are close together! - The scenery was nice to look at - The pot was done well.. for some reason I noticed that Cons: - some parts of the level I could see the level base - for example, I was able to run back up to the top of the hill in the beginning - I understand that the level has a fantasy feel, but I felt like the floating boxes at the end didn't fit - but that could just be me Overall: A nice visual experience that wasn't too difficult, and yet rewarding. 5 :star:'s (although I meant to give it 4, but my thumb slipped!) Hearted And hearted you as a creator because I played several of your other levels (both PSN accounts) | 2009-09-26 02:36:00 Author: Powershifter Posts: 668 |
