zoom out while holding a wire

Archive: 10 posts

Sometimes the switch, magnet etc is all the way on the other side of the level from the piston, spin bolt etc. While holding the wire you cannot zoom out which is what you need to do for your sackperson to achive full speed. This means you have to either move slowly through the whole level which wastes time, or you zoom out first then grab the wire. Sometimes zooming out first is not an option. I think this ability would help smooth out the process of creating.2009-09-08 02:59:00

I have long wished for this feature. Good suggestion.

I'd also like a way to color code them if possible. You know for those big sections of switches so you can tell without going into it which are directional or on/off. Or you could code for different actions in the level so you know color A has to do with this object or this event. Would make trouble shooting a lot easier if you wire it all up at once then test.

Yes, this would be a HUUUUUGE asset to creators! This is teh ONLY time i like creating with my brother, when we're doing switches. (1 person is a switch lackey, the other controlls the camera) It would be far more convienient if one person could just do both.2009-09-10 08:48:00

Yeah that would be a great feature... I find it really frustrating to move wires really long distances, and then when u do zoom out and make it quicker, its really difficult to accurately attach the wire to ur intended object.

Also i love Morgana's idea of coloured wires... most of my levels i cant really edit the game play that much any more becuase i just dont have a clue how i put it together!

I go into the level and there's just way too many wires to deal with, so i just leave it.

position yourself so you are in the right place to select the wire, but don't.
Zoom out and your cursor normally stays in exactly the same spot.
Select the wire and move (you will be zoomed out and can move fast.
(optional) Connect the wire to a dummy connector in the target area (big motor bolt etc.).
(optional)Zoom in and reselect the wire fromt he dummy object
Connect to your piston.

But yes, it's dumb, I understand with moving objects, but with the wires the camera controls just do nothing

I normally do what rtm223 suggested. It makes the process a lot easier, but it's still not as simple as it could be. Also, color coded wires or wires that lit up when you selected them, the switch, or the object it's connected to would be great. Just for organizational reasons if nothing else.2009-09-10 10:56:00

I'd love to see this happen, its one thing that does my head in when creating. I generally don't want to mess anything up, so move at snail pace through the level so I can see what I'm doing.

I'm going to give your method a try rtm, I never thought of doing that

I'm 200% behind this suggestion. Since I *always* make ridiculously complex, compact, level-spanning wire connections, I always have to zoom out just barely in order to see what it is that I'm connecting to and not spend 10 minutes to get there.2009-09-10 13:32:00
