Should i quit?
Archive: 18 posts
Well, i got done with my level after, i think 19 hours.... but everyone says it sucks.... i got all items.... i aced everything.... should i quit.... there is no real reason to keep playing besides playing stuff... i might start again after water is released | 2009-09-08 02:57:00 Author: Joshofsouls Posts: 1569 |
You're really the only person who can answer that question. Personally, i'd give it another go. Its only your first creation after all. I'd also ignore a fair amount of those comments. If all a person is doing is putting you down, and not offering anything to help, or at least being kind about it, they're probably not worth listening to. | 2009-09-08 03:13:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
Hmmm.... I agree with Burnvictim42 - only you know if you should quit. Are you having fun creating? Are you getting and responding to feedback to get better at creating? Maybe also look at whether you need to build a different kind of level that better suites your talents. I'm personally not very good at visuals, so I look for ways to compensate by trying to push gameplay to the max. | 2009-09-08 03:17:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
No, you shouldn't. If anything just take a break for awhile and find something to occupy your time until the urge to start up hits again. You shouldn't considering quitting just because a few punks left a sour taste in your mouth. Everyone's first level was horrid, regardless of whether or not they published it. What you call your best work now, will make you laugh in retrospect to what you can make with some practice. My first level was so poor I apparently 'gave' a person cancer from how bad it was. lol It hurt to hear someone say that about something I put two weeks into, but I brushed it off and refined my strengths. I'd start with a cool contraption or concept and build a level around it. If I was able to fit a story with it than all the better. I can tell you now, the unfinished levels I have now far surpass what I had then. The choice is yours, I can only share my opinion. -4wheel | 2009-09-08 03:20:00 Author: 4wheel Posts: 511 |

Well, I haven't actually played your level, but why do people say it sucks? I can say from experience that 19 hours seems like a long time, but it's pretty small time compared to what some people go through. Recently, there was a bunch of fuss made about the 160 hour glitch, which is essentially where things stop working once 160 hours of unpaused create time has passed. Compare 160 hours to 19 hours, and you'll get a different perspective on things. As Cubb said, play to your strengths. I am not very artistically inclined, so I sort of go with a minimalistic design, using a lot of gridwork (use the right triangle shape a lot!). If you decide to quit, I hope you find some other fun thing to occupy your time. | 2009-09-08 03:48:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Wise words from wise guys above me If your not having fun - take a break. You may change your mind about things. Or focus on playing other people's levels for awhile. It's a great way to get excited about all the cool possibilities of the game. Good Luck! | 2009-09-08 05:58:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
What everyone above has said is very true, especially playing to your strengths and what comphermc says about 19 hours being not that long a time to create an entire level, even if you are very quick at creating. Out of curiousity, who is saying your level sucks? If it's people on the level comments or on some of the other forums then what you are likely experiencing is just simple immature internet flaming. Post a level in the showcase and see what people here think - if there is room for improvement I'm sure people will help you identify where your strengths are. Also, bear in mind there is a lot of mileage in this game simply as a player - I've not really been creating recently and I've been having a blast playing other people's levels and seeing their creativity and originality. It could be that create is not for you - just because it is there does not mean you have to use it to enjoy the game. But certainly don't give up because of some flaming . | 2009-09-08 09:17:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Hm yeah my levels take 80 hours plus so... i dont know. Depends if u want to dedicate that much time creating. | 2009-09-08 09:58:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
Now I went on LBP after my post and looked at your levels. I noticed you had a 4 part level series as well as a few free roaming hangouts/homes. I played the first part in your level series and with exception of not put a putting a powerup canceler after the door the level was actually quite fun. You were just unlucky in that your level was passed over by most players. You could try a custom badge for it instead of the story stickers. Also you could give it a name change. | 2009-09-08 12:34:00 Author: 4wheel Posts: 511 |
I think you have gotten some great advice already, but I would echo the "Post a level thread" and get some feedback from us!! You have 10 levels and there are none attached to your profile showing they are in our level showcase. Let us tell you want we think rather than take some random comment from the wandering gadder. I have seen many amazing levels still have a passing message such as "this is awful". ..and again sorry to say as others have, 19 hours is not that long. I think I easily spent over 200 on my last one. (tip - doing most of the designing and testing in level workshops besides remaing paused helps avoid the 160 hour bug!) The big question, is it fun for you while you are creating? If so, don't stop and please allow us to help you get better! | 2009-09-08 13:48:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
If that is the attitude you are going to have towards it, you have two options: 1. Quit or 2. Find a better attitude If everyone quit after they put in a little effort and things didn't go over well, we'd still most likely be living in medieval times. Here are the facts: 1) You did some work on a level and 2) people apparently didn't like it. Right off the bat I'm going to tell you that not everyone is going to like your level, regardless of how good it is. Creating a great level isn't a walk in the park though, it requires patience, persistence, creativity, and most importantly, time. You aren't going to paint the Sistine Chapel overnight, or in 19 hours for that matter. LittleBigPlanet is full of many things, instant gratification isn't one of them. If you invest some time over the course of a week, month, or even several months, you can really make something amazing. Some very basic tips: Find an idea that you like and are willing to spend a lot of time with. Get some tips from some of the best creators around, right here on the forums. Don't be afraid to ask for help, that's why we're here. Learn to take negativity, there are too many immature Neanderthals on LittleBigPlanet to even worry about it. Listen to the input of others, they will definitely lead you in the right direction. | 2009-09-08 19:59:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
All that matters is if you like your level or not. ALL my levels are horrible! i mean lets be honest i couldnt make a level even if.... well i dont know!! But the point is i get like 2 plays on it but some of the levels i made i was actually pretty impressed with myself even though it got 11 plays and 2 hearts ( 1 from myself since i was bored ) It just matters if you think your level is good | 2009-09-08 23:40:00 Author: Snrm Posts: 6419 |
well, all your advice has helped me realize, i need to push on! i will make a custom icon for my levels, i will keep republishing, and i will..... take a small break afterwards! Well, i am going to change some stuff on 1 and 4, plus i need to work on 2 and 3... so in the mean time, please tell people about my level....and play them... I SHALL NOT FAIL! | 2009-09-09 09:06:00 Author: Joshofsouls Posts: 1569 |

Well, Sort-of quit. Mostly, you should quit thinking of it as a Pass/Fail proposition. You made a level, and that's a pass. Heck, you've made ten levels, So you can ease your-self of that burden. When I make something (level, song, pile of dirt, whatever), I try to please myself first. Then if I manage to tickle myself, I'll share it, and if someone doesn't like it, (graphic and disturbing imagery here)...and the horse they rode in on. | 2009-09-09 10:03:00 Author: swanbrown Posts: 898 |
