Digitized Reality: The Labsteve_big_guns Be the first participant to test the new prototype virtual reality system. all This is my first level show case so i hope im doing it right The level starts in the media molecule laboratory. After entering the virtual reality program you get to enjoy media molecule intro themed platforming action. This has taken about 3 months to complete. I hope you enjoy it | 2009-09-08 01:41:00 Author: SteveBigGuns Posts: 423 |
I was lucky enough to get an early look at this level about a month back. I'm really impressed with the things you've added since then. It's evident that you put a lot of time into this level, and it really shows in the quality of your work. There's not any real challenge to the level (at least not until the final boss) - but that's not what this level is trying to be. It excels wonderfully at being a gorgeous looking level that runs flawlessly [for the most part]. You have an impeccable attention for detail, and it was a treat to see all that great sticker work. The ending was awesome, and it'll take another play-through to totally figure out all that was happening. I really enjoyed the variety that you had going on in the level as well. The highlight for me was that little "chu chu" ride section. It was cute and brilliantly done. That being said, I did have a few suggestions/criticisms/questions: I'm not a huge fan of the gas/teleportation. It's your style, so I'm not going to argue with it, but it did create problems for me at one point. At the end of the intro-style section [loading], I jumped right as the gas came, and I "ran out of lives". This leads me to believe that the checkpoint never emitted. During the final boss (which was crazy-awesome, by the way), I wasn't sure exactly what I was supposed to shoot. I got all the visible targets (I thought), but the two on the far right/left were having a hard time registering. I guess I can't be that mad because you had several varieties of player trackers going on at once that most people won't glance twice at. Well, I thought I had more, but I guess not. Those two points notwithstanding, I had a blast. Apparently the rest of the lbp community did as well, as it has become pretty popular and will probably maintain that 5 star rating. You got :star::star::star::star::star: and heart from me. Sadly, I couldn't find a fantastic tag, so I tagged it brilliant. | 2009-09-08 02:13:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
ive been having problems with emiters in this level. i used an emit an emiter on the trains so i could get 8 going at once at the cost of 1. by this also causes glitches on other emiters. i thought i solved this by destroying other emiters in the level to free up thermo whilw in play mode . ill look into this now. | 2009-09-08 02:26:00 Author: SteveBigGuns Posts: 423 |
It worked the second time, so it may have been a fluke. I'd wait to see if others report a similar problem. Interesting idea to destroy emitters once they aren't needed anymore. Does it strictly affect lag issues, or does it help the thermo as well? | 2009-09-08 02:30:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Yeah, finally! You showed me this so many times through testing, but i'll still rate it a five and heart..........but not author heart, 40,000 is enough. J oh and sorry im as bad as you with adding photos! XD | 2009-09-08 02:32:00 Author: Mr_T-Shirt Posts: 1477 |
doesnt effect lag but allows other emiters to work. if i didnt destroy them (placed them on dissolve) the other emiters would not work at all as the level overheats by about 25% at times. i used the emit an emiter technique on the neon backgrounds too. | 2009-09-08 02:36:00 Author: SteveBigGuns Posts: 423 |
Enjoyed every bit of it, and a genius ending, great job on this! | 2009-09-08 02:38:00 Author: julesyjules Posts: 1156 |
i broke it after the crazy lazer boss i just respawned in the dark with a dim light on me and a low humming. so i ran off just abit and fell to some other part of the level. | 2009-09-08 02:51:00 Author: Littlebigdude805 Posts: 1924 |
never had that happen and i tested 200 times. did you die or something right as the floor dissolves | 2009-09-08 03:06:00 Author: SteveBigGuns Posts: 423 |
would like to play it but you locked it at the moment | 2009-09-08 03:31:00 Author: Unknown User |
well when the floor desolved i fell for alittle bit then a hit a large thing of white gas THEN respawned. | 2009-09-08 03:35:00 Author: Littlebigdude805 Posts: 1924 |
thanks for the reply. you should land on the invisable glass slide that directs you to the scoreboard effect. did you go left when you landed as i forgot to block that part off (fixed now). | 2009-09-08 03:47:00 Author: SteveBigGuns Posts: 423 |
I'm definitely going to have to play this tomorrow. About emitting an emitter - does that really work by tricking the thermo? If that's the case then that would be awesome - I can't fit any more score bubbles in my level. | 2009-09-08 07:01:00 Author: phife211 Posts: 62 |
with this technique you can fill the level with bubbles at a cost of 1. only problem is if the level wax maxed out to start with you would have to destroy something after you have passed it for any emiter to function. | 2009-09-08 08:10:00 Author: SteveBigGuns Posts: 423 |
OK, so I played this today. (technically yesterday). I think comphermc pretty much summed up my feelings about this level. Digital Reality is a very flashy, aesthetic, and visually stunning level. The level is a bit linear and the challenge is low, but the eye-candy more than makes up for it. I gave it :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. | 2009-09-08 08:22:00 Author: TheJollyRajah Posts: 466 |
Alright, Steve, you asked me to try and break the level again, and I did just that. I epicly broke it if you ask me. It's amusing how much of the level you destroy once you move onto the next part. Check it out: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=541&pictureid=6535 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=541&pictureid=6536 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=541&pictureid=6534 After the final boss died, what I did was jump off the platform to the left. I don't know if my timing was just impeccable, but I did it right as the gas was supposed to come kill you. Instead of respawning down-and-to-the right, near the fake scoreboard, I respawned back on top of the boss platform. It was completely dark, so I just fumbled around and walked/jumped off to the left. The gas that was there somehow disappeared, so I was able to jump and eventually land on some logic. Then I jumped further to the left and managed to land in the beginning of the intro section. This triggered a global lighting change so that I could see. Then I was just bounding about behind the scenes. It was actually pretty funny to see all your switches. That top picture took a bunch of trial and error to land just perfectly, as it was quite a fall to get to that point. I don't know what exactly you were expecting me to find, but this is what I did. I had to quit out of the level, because I couldn't quite make it back to the fake scoreboard (invisible wall). Not sure how to fix it, as I don't know how everything works, but good luck! | 2009-09-08 19:15:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
thanks a lot. i could just destroy the platform by only using the brains and not re-emiting it elsewhere. i like the clean dissolve effect though. another idea could be to emit the checkpoint at the fake scoreboard at the same time. theres a 50/50 chance that may work. ill try it later on. btw i think i may have fixed the gas covering the checkpoint issue i tried to make it happen again, but after 10 mins the ships where destroyed with no gas problems occuring. | 2009-09-08 19:58:00 Author: SteveBigGuns Posts: 423 |
Great level! I really loved it! Very fun both conceptually and gameplay wise. I enjoyed it a lot! 5 stars for you! | 2009-09-08 20:29:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
I was trying all day to get a level video of it. Now recording it was okay, Played it for the 1st time while recording and everything went smooth. It was the uploading that was the problem, for some reason several times the videos i tried uploading failed, before I left for work I was down to 2 to still get up, yours being one of them, so i set it up and left the laptop on while i went to work. Thankfully yours went up. And finallly here it is! YouTube - LittleBigPlanet: Digitized Reality: The Lab by steve_big_guns | 2009-09-09 04:37:00 Author: JKthree Posts: 1125 |
i seen this on youtube earlier. i left a thanks comment in your comment box. im surprised it was your first time playing as you seem to have known exactrly what to do. | 2009-09-09 05:01:00 Author: SteveBigGuns Posts: 423 |
Great level! The visuals were so clean and polished, and presentation was through the roof. 5 stars and hearted. Only complaint was the final boss got a little repetitive...but that's like complaining your filet mignon is getting cold if you don't eat it quickly Awesome. | 2009-09-09 20:58:00 Author: phife211 Posts: 62 |
Played it last night. Cute idea with a very dark ending. I encountered no technical problems and enjoyed the level. It's not hard but not every level needs to be. Nice eye candy and Vidi--Vici-- did an awesome job on your name. I gave it 5 stars & hearted it. | 2009-09-11 17:29:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Wow, I absolutely loved this level! Amazing graphics, fun/funny story, and great gameplay. I especially liked how you made it seem like you were zooming up at the boss, with the lines coming down in the background. Fantastic! 5 stars and heart without a doubt. | 2009-09-12 00:14:00 Author: hilightnotes Posts: 1230 |
Nice level. Good idea for it too. I didn't have any technical problems either. I loved some of the ideas in it, but wasn't so keen on the visuals in a few places. As I was getting to the end I was thinking I would give it 4 stars, but the fake scoreboard ending and pod scene was just awesome. That easily lifted it to 5 stars. Great work. | 2009-09-12 15:23:00 Author: jackofcourse Posts: 1494 |
Hi there! I came across this level last night and recognized the name from here so I gave it a play. I must say, you've done a great job here. Technically speaking it was more or less flawless and it was pleasing visually as well. Over all I feel it was a great concept implemented properly. I did not encounter any bugs during my play through. Again, great job on a great level! | 2009-09-12 19:49:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
I love this level man! Level of the month, definitely! Everything about it is perfect, better than Media Molecule's levels. 5 stars and a heart | 2009-09-12 20:52:00 Author: olit123 Posts: 1341 |
Just finished playing and man, was I pleased! I absolutely loved it. The design was extremely cool. You borrowed a lot from Media Molecule, but then added your own little twist on everything... including the pod! Awesome stuff. The sequence with the small train all the way up to the boss and the pod were some of my favorite moments in an LBP level. They only thing that I didn't care for was the barrage of plasma coming from the boss. Overall, I had a great time with it. Well done! | 2009-09-13 05:45:00 Author: mrsupercomputer Posts: 1335 |

Just played this level -- Very awesome SBG! Some really cool ideas, all well executed. Thanks for all the hard work, it was fun to play. | 2009-09-14 02:22:00 Author: Unknown User |

Definitely in my top 5. Glad to see you posting on here now. | 2009-09-16 18:34:00 Author: ApellesJr Posts: 282 |
We ran into this level recently, and it looked good, at least up to the VR part. When we switched on the VR machine and got in, it got darker, but nothing else happened. I guess the gas missed us or something? | 2009-09-17 13:12:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
Theres no way for the gas to miss you. Its emitted on all plains. Its was just a glitch in the game not the level. | 2009-09-17 19:41:00 Author: SteveBigGuns Posts: 423 |
Its grrrrrrrreat! Never left you any feedback Steve, but I'm sure I've told you everything whenever you showed me. Have I told you yet that you can actually shoot the paint switch in the center of the boss before it was uncovered? I got confused when shooting the boss as I had forgot that I had to shoot the side turrets as well, so I then started shooting the main part of the boss and I, well, shot it. Don't know if you know though so hope this helps. Oh yeah, I think one of my favorite parts of the level is the just the badge Looks really good | 2009-09-19 04:13:00 Author: Shris Posts: 126 |
I played it today, but I had to quit during the boss fight because the door kept on spawning me and then seemed to decide to go back down again. And it did it over and over and over again...Great level though from what I played before that! | 2009-09-19 04:22:00 Author: Sunrise_Moon Posts: 469 |
Never happened to me, but ill try to see what caused that to happen. Sounds strange | 2009-09-19 15:17:00 Author: SteveBigGuns Posts: 423 |
looks like it took up a lot of thermo. awesome job | 2009-09-19 15:26:00 Author: Evan_the_Paxman Posts: 29 |
Theres no way for the gas to miss you. Its emitted on all plains. Its was just a glitch in the game not the level. Oh well, it worked yesterday. Great level, very ingenious! | 2009-09-23 11:32:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
I just stumbled onto this level. First thing I noticed was the rating: 1-in-5 hearted it across 50000 plays, and a 5 star rating on average?? That's one impressive rating. And it's not hard to see why. It's consistently surprising, beautiful, funny- and as smooth as butter to play. It all worked perfectly for me- I never saw a single seam. I loved the way this level is always charging forwards towards the next mad/awesome setpeice. You did a superb job of smoothing all the displeasure out of the gameplay. The player is never significantly slowed down, or forced to endure tedious repetitions. And every dangerous challenge is, for once, presented with crystal-clear visual design. It provides a nice stress-free break from the usual "what just killed me?" moments that crop up all over the shop in LBP. :star::star::star::star::star: one of my new favourites | 2009-09-28 02:21:00 Author: Tig-W Posts: 106 |
Yeah, played this a week or so ago. Really was a STELLAR level. Ranks up there with the best of them as far as production goes. Fun platforming and a thrill ride of different scenes and atmosphere. :star::star::star::star::star: | 2009-09-28 21:26:00 Author: Jaeyden Posts: 564 |
Is there any chance you plan on unlocking the original, I hearted it but see no point in having it in my hearted if I'm never going to play it. >=[ | 2009-11-04 04:33:00 Author: TheFirstAvenger Posts: 787 |
I was using it as a backup to make a few updates. Ive added a new background at the cloning part just after the VR machine and a new fake pod sequence that I spent around 6 hours making. Its far more cinematic and visually impressive than before. I was going to makie a sequel but have lost the motivion to spend the time required. Modern Warefare 2 is just too much fun. | 2009-11-19 19:17:00 Author: SteveBigGuns Posts: 423 |
