Re: copying save data to a second profile

Archive: 3 posts

Profile space is preventing me from doing anything at all right now. It seems to shrink everytime I buy DLC, and now with only two levels on my moon, a small handful of custom stickers/objects and no community items at all, I have absolutely no space left to build another level. In fact I even deleted an entire level from my moon last night, but I was only given enough profile space to create three custom stickers and one captured object before the game flashed that "unable to save" message at me again.

Okay, so my question is this...if I were to create a second profile, would there be any way to copy my original save game to it, or would I have to go through the tutorials and story mode to get all my tools, materials, etc.? If I can copy my original save to a second profile, how do I do it? I can't see any option there on the browser menus and I don't want to accidentally do something really bad and irreversible, so I'm reluctant to just press buttons and hope.

(Feel free to slap your foreheads, because I know how bad my question sounds...that's 3 years I've had a PS3 and I still haven't got to grips with the basics!)

First off, I hope you are aware of everything you can erase that is taking profile space:

-Your Pictures
-Community Pictures
-Your objects
-Community objects
-Saved Costumes
-Pod decorations
-Levels on your moon

Then I have 2 tricks for you. First off, what's taking the most place is a level on your moon. What you should do is save this level on the moon of another profile. How to do that? Easy. Let's say you have "account full" and "account empty" to play with:

-Go into "account full" and publish the level you want to back in "locked copyable".

-Publish a lock level with the key for that level you want to back up.

-Go into "account empty" and get the key.

-Copy the level to your moon. Voila! it's backed up on another profile now.

------------------------

Second trick:

Create a "storage level" (a locked level with all your objects and custom stickers/pictures), this way you can use another round of profile space.

Now combine the 2 ideas. Back up your storage level or save it into another profile, etc.

------------------------

Basically, you have infinite profile space.

^ That's exactly what I wanted to do, but I couldn't figure how to do it. It was finding the right menu option to copy my save to a second profile that was giving me trouble. I haven't really fiddled around much in my PS3's browser menus, since I normally just stick a disc in the machine and play. I've finally sussed it out now and the thread can be closed.2009-09-07 20:23:00
