A small glitch with auto-updating threads

Archive: 8 posts

I was editing in a small grammatical change to my story in Creative Writing, at the same time I had a message in the same thread that I had written but was yet to post. Pressing the "Save" button of the quick edit on the post on page 1 suddenly displayed that post in the tab with the new post on it, as if I had just posted it and the page was being auto-updated (however, this was on page 7...)2009-09-07 02:12:00

Sounds like an incredibly specific set of circumstances. I'm not sure what causes this, but I don't think it's something worth worrying about. Did the problem fix itself upon reloading the page?2009-09-07 02:50:00

Yes it did, but I thought it was a bit weird. I'm not sure if the problem also occurs if someone else edits at the same time as you read, and if this is the case the circumstances "you view the page while someone saves an edit" don't seem that rare.2009-09-07 02:58:00

Well, I encounter posts auto-updating due to an edit quite frequently and I've never had an issue with it. Though that is just me, I assume we would have heard others complain as well.

Can you describe exactly what you were doing and what happened, in a step-by-step manner? That way I can try to replicate it.

I loaded the thread on its final page, 7
I middle-clicked the "First" button to open a new tab on this page.
I typed the message I wanted to send into the page that was on page 7
I clicked Edit on page 1, copy and pasted what I wanted to do, and pressed Save
I switched tabs, and, while the other page was still loading, the post I'd edited appeared as if new.

Hmm, well, I just tested it for myself, and nothing odd happened. It might have been a one-off thing, it might be a browser issue, or I might have screwed up. Any chance you could try replicating it yourself and see if you get the same results?2009-09-07 08:11:00

It must have been a one-off, it didn't work after double testing. Ho-hum.2009-09-07 17:59:00
