Another story for LBP encyclopedia of weirdness

Archive: 18 posts

One hour ago, maybe two, I was working on my level.
I just managed to sync perfectly a section that is quite itchy (who beta tested my level knows what it is), and always gets out of sync when I publish my level.
It's not the 180 hours bug, it's something else...
Anyway, seems like I did it for good, so I went on the finishing section.

I built a quite complicated contraption (not complicated logicwise, but with lots of pistons that have to sustain an heavy section that moves with de-synched pistons and some gas throughout).

I turned off the pause to see if it worked...
First off, the objects (some kind of columns made with 3 materials) that I created and captured in another level on my Moon, unglued for no reason, and the leds that I put on them fell...
Wonderful!

So I rewinded and glued everything together, but the funny thing is that 1 led out of 8 wasn't anymore in its original position, so I had to put it back where it was...1 out of 8...???

I tried to unpause and everything was working except for the crack sound.
I checked all the area and everything was working...???

I entered the play mode...a wobble bolt at the very start of the level was missing and it was necessary to continue the level...

Entered create, replaced everything between a mess of wires...

Went to play.

After a while a wench had disappeared...

Create. Tweak. Save. Play.

After the synched part I mentioned at the beginning I found a thin layer, which covered a section hiding some pistons somewhere above, that prevented me to reach the platform to continue playing the level.

This is the coolest part of the story.

The thin layer, wich was bolted somewhere above, fell THROUGH one triple layer of rock and, open your ears...a triple layer of DARK freakin' MATTER.
Yes, you do hear me well, guys.

Holy son of a teletransporter!

I had to get rid of that, so I selected it and my PS3 F R O Z E.

I started to sweat.

I reset.

I load LBP.

My palms were wet like fishes' fins.

God, please...LOAD the ****** level, it's at least 3 months of work!

It loaded, no FTLYL...thanks...

Select the layer, push triangle just to erasFREEEEEEEEEEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!

Again...reset...load...

In the end I managed to get rid of that thin b**ch...layer erasing it with the material tool, thin layer and triangle, but I lost at least 10 years of life.

Today LBP has just spanked me hard

Please tell me some of your stories to ease my pain

I have OCD, and I copied a large chuck of my level to tweak a part of it. After I deleted everything that was unnecessary, I was left with a piece of dark matter that I cannot touch and everything goes through it. I had to copy it all into a different level.

Also, when the MGS Pack first came out, I glued some paintballs to the tip of a missile. When it hit the wall the game froze. I tried it again and it froze again. Then I tried it a couple months later and it worked, so they must have sorted it out somewhere down the line.

Well, my first level using the MGS Pack died. It was sad, too - that level marked my move from mediocre levels to sweet levels. This was before I created The Wasteland, too - still early in my career.

Not really sure what happened. I do remember using a lot of Sandpaper, though.

Jeez that's a real horror story. There are some really weird bugs in this game and the trouble is you can't do anything about it. It all seems random.

I hope you get it sorted and don't have any more problems before it's finished.

I can't play right now because it's just way too laggy again. It's been terrible all day.

BTW what's the 180 hour bug ?

I once accidentally deleted the last version of my level called "Jazz". It was such a good level too...it was finished and everything.

20 hours less is a nightmare...
Anyway, material going through Dark Matter is mental.
It's just like people going through concrete...I'm playing LP too much...

When I hear stories like this, it makes my palms sweat! I've had a few of the problems already mentioned, including a level that would freeze when a particular object was selected.

I'm surprised we've managed to publish anything at all!

I'm surprised we've managed to publish anything at all!

Even though we have such diverse issues that occur seemingly frequently, it's actually not as bad as it seems. We don't normally make threads when everything is going well, so as a result, we see a list of threads with all of the issues that people are having. If even 1% of our time in Create Mode was spent dealing with bugs, we'd have several hundred more threads about bugs and such. The issues we normally face can be worked around, and even the ones that can't be worked around (ex. level corrupting) usually don't stop people completely. We manage to continue to publish things because we are dedicated and the issues don't occur nearly as frequently as reading the forum would lead us to believe.

A perfect example of this is the first real bug I had occurred yesterday, and I've been creating since October!

I will inform you of something that didn't exactly ruin my level... it was just a random thing.

So I was making a prize - coincidentally using the History Kit - and I found something rather strange; a thin block of material that I had not placed. I deleted the prop and tried to select the invisible material by just clicking on it, but I couldn't. Eventually, I dragged the selecting cursor over the little block, as if I were selecting multiple objects, and then I selected it.

It was a thin object, and invisible. When I enlarged it and hit it against the floor, it sounded like a noise cardboard would make. I also couldn't manage to thicken this material - so a true invisible platform is not possible in this regard.

I know it's not reallya disaster story. Just wanted to share my own tale.

Well, I mistakenly deleted a level a week ago and remade the level even if I had it published... I already talked about this, anyway... I feel sorry for you, mate... I know hat it feels like

The ungluing of LEDs has been a nightmare for too much time me, I started building my levels in sections as small as I can, avoiding glueing the sections like death

My nightmare story? January 5th, 2009. Playing a DVD on my PS3. Got the yellow light of death! Everything is gone! The only backup I had was for LBP, but it was from early December, so my entire second level was toast. (Not to mention my Big Boss ranking save on MGS4, my near-perfect game of Uncharted, a completed game of GTA4, etc etc...) Finally, my obsession with games won out in May, and I dropped the cash for a new PS3. But...****!2009-09-11 01:33:00

I've had the exact same thing happen to me. Well, it was with an object and a "ghost" thin layer...Really irritating. The only way to get rid of it is by selecting a material and cutting the object away. It worked with me anyway, but meh.2009-09-11 07:30:00

Did you find it in a different position than the original one in which you placed it?
Did it teletrasported?
