Palebonner123 Pale is a level that isn't hectic, crazy or fast paced. Its a level that is relaxing. Some good platforming fun awaits you if you play this level. Simplistic Visuals, but beautiful, that are, you guessed it, Pale. Speed through it or go for the highscore, the choice is yours. Fun Multiplayer too. Enjoy. all | 2009-09-06 17:10:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
Hello bonner123! Your level is perfect! Great Gameplay and visual :star:x5 and hearted! | 2009-09-06 22:19:00 Author: JOE-1404 Posts: 9 |
Thanks but I would like harsher criticism. | 2009-09-07 14:44:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
I'l give his a look for f4f. I'll probably get it up in a few hours. | 2009-09-08 08:53:00 Author: KQuinn94Z Posts: 1758 |
I really loved this level, especially all the simplistic visuals and those colours were really beautiful. It manages to be plain and simple but also fun to play. 5 stars, but the one thing I didn't like was lack of sounds. There are some sounds out there that would work perfectly in this level | 2009-09-08 21:30:00 Author: FlyingHaggis Posts: 55 |
UPDATE: Added some sound and made the spin wheel a tad slower. Should I rehost and try to get on Cool Pages? | 2009-09-09 02:03:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
Great level. Really original visuals combined with simple platforming. :star::star::star::star::star: | 2009-09-09 02:27:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
I really like the minimalistic design, and there were some nice platforming elements. You said you wanted criticism, though: -I would have liked to see some additional decorating. What's you thermo like? -Not a whole lot of challenge. I suppose that goes hand in hand with the easy-going atmosphere. -The little bad guys arbitrarily in the middle of the level were weird. It seemed like I just had to push them until I could kill one of them. Lather, rinse, repeat. -The photo-thing the end was not necessary. I hopped across the boxes and got stuck on something because the photo zone made it so I couldn't see. | 2009-09-09 03:13:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Hi bonner! Thanks for making the wheel a little slower. Much better. Now, down to details - I really enjoyed this! I loved the clean look and the retro styling (as I already told you). There are a good number of 'secret' point stashes. You could probably even add some more - there's plenty of space there. Depends on your thermo, I guess. All those curved surfaces made life interesting and a little frustrating, but hey, you don't want it to be too easy. Did you use Kipmonlin's circle tool for those? If not, what did you use? | 2009-09-09 05:17:00 Author: BabyDoll1970 Posts: 1567 |
Where's the rest of my post??!!! I had another few paragraphs on there describing the issues I think need addressing. Nuts! I will do it again for you, but it will have to wait until this evening as I've got to run. Sorry... how frustrating... | 2009-09-09 05:20:00 Author: BabyDoll1970 Posts: 1567 |
Okay - I'm back. Areas that need addressing in my opinion are as follows: SOund - some of your apparatus could do with some sound effects, even if they were soothing ones. Not essential, though as the level certainly already has a relaxed feel. Checkpoints - there weren't quite enough for me. There are a few places (like before the rotating crosses and near that cut out of a man) that could do with a checkpoint to avoid the frustration of having to do preceding obstacles over and over (like all that jumping and grabbing near the cut-out man) when you die. Mind you I only really died up there because I tried to go OVER that slow wheel - but if I tried, others will too. ??? - There were a couple of spots where i thought 'what was the point of that?. One was where those horizontal platforms led up to a glass enclosed cubicle. Apart from the points below it, there was nothing else up there and that would be a good place to PUT something else - maybe it could go up on an invisible lever to further points or something?? The other was those strange triangular creatures - the only animated things in an inanimate landscape. They seemed a little out of place and I was half expecting them to trigger something else or give me extra points for killing them. They were too easy to kill so the second time I played through i didn't bother with them - just ran over the top of them and kept going. I was confused in the part where you grab the switch and the stairs come down... just before that 'building' there was a single grabbable cube. I wasn't sure what to do with it after I tried to insert it into that square indentation in the ground and all it did was block the stairs. When that happened I couldn't get up the stairs because of the angle, yet i couldn't get under the stairs to removed the cube from the hole and ended up having to kill myself. Did I miss something there? Also, those three grabbable cylinders on strings - the third, highest one was just that little bit too long which made it difficult to get up onto the platform. I kept smacking into it, although i got up there eventually. However, that could've just been my incompetence : ) There were some really clever bits and I really enjoyed working my way through the level without the terror of only one chance, like your LBP obstacle courses (LOL). You still had to think about things without it being too taxing on the brain - nice and relaxed. I don't think you need the photo booth at the end. I wasn't even in the spot when the picture was taken and I just generally don't like photo booths as my profile is so full that one or two photos can sometimes overload it - but that's my problem, not yours. I gave it 4 stars and a heart and if you can add some extra checkpoints and maybe do a bit of tweaking (not much needed) it will be 5 stars - easy : ) Thanks for posting such a well thought out level, bonner! | 2009-09-09 07:17:00 Author: BabyDoll1970 Posts: 1567 |
Thanks, the thermo is full though :O and i'll make some adjustments. Thanks. Oh and I used the small grid, not that tool. | 2009-09-09 20:00:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
Finaly on cool pages I was getting worried. I made some adjustments btw. | 2009-09-11 01:59:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
I originally played this level when it was first published and just now played it again and found it much more enjoyable. It seems that you changed just about everything that I could think of changing. My only gripe, and this is purely personal preference, is that I don't like ceiling swinging (I believe it is right before the spinning cylinder that you slowed down). The entire level is extremely innovative in its simplicity, and yet there is that ceiling swinging sequence. I know you said that your level is topped off with the thermometer, but it would be cool if you just added one more simple obstacle rather than the ceiling swinging. Maybe add some kind of spring bolt teeter totters or even just a hanging sponge. I think that it would just be more enjoyable than ceiling swinging as it just feels tedious. I guess that the ceiling swinging gets the player ready for the spinning cylinder so if that's the case then it serves its purpose and should not change. That is really all I can say that is remotely negative. Like I said you changed everything that I had planned on providing feedback on and I think you already greatly improved the level. Great level! And I love all of the hidden points everywhere. | 2009-09-11 02:11:00 Author: ElGueroGigante Posts: 85 |
played this. loved it. i like the simplistic shapes and calm colors. It reminds me slightly of an erector set or of wooden childrens blocks. goes well with the sackboy. my only complaint is the little triangley enemies. they are hard to get into. if it were me, id just put the brain on top. 5?5 nonethe less. thank you. | 2009-09-11 03:01:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
Alright, I have to say this first ... I played your level twice, and on the second time through I aced it and got first place on the score board with 30,526 points ... sorry Joe-1404 Pros: - The level is simple, yet clean and well thought out - I didn't have any problems with the plane shifting - The score bubbles are placed perfectly - most of them can be turned into combos - A few secret areas is always nice - The beginning, with the check point rolling into place was a nice touch - I thought the descending staircase was a cool moment - I liked the simplistic puzzles, and the fact that some you would be rewarded if you didn't just use them to advance in the level - The grab circle thing underneath the bridge with the paintinator worked well. I missed it on the first try, but got it on the second. - Even the paint balls were Pale!! - Really fun, and I would play this again - Probably really fun with multi-player as well - Everything seemed to be in order.. no glitches found - I can usually find something, so that's great on your part! Cons: - Not much to say here... although I did notice that the music would sometimes get off beat - and being a drummer, that annoyed me a bit. However, it's probably not your fault, unless the song is tweakable (I think it is?) and you have different instruments going in and out throughout the level - that could potentially cause it to get off track. Overall: 5 :star:'s Tag: "Fun" Hearted the level Nicely done!! F4F - If you could, I'd like you to try my Real Myst: Channelwood Age (I think you may already have? You just didn't post anything in my thread). I would just like to know if the new sticker at the end of the level is corrupt or not. Thanks! | 2009-09-11 17:49:00 Author: Powershifter Posts: 668 |
I've just played this, and there's nothing much I can add to what's already been said. Nice, fresh visuals which looked good. Leisurely pace and a few secrets along the way were good. Overall, an enjoyable level which was good fun. A few very minor niggles - the level was well-paced, but it did get a tad repetitive towards the end, and although this repetition was broken up by a short race, I didn't really understand why the race was there. I loved the theme of the level, but like someone else mentioned, I didn't really get why there were a few human figure shapes dotted around the place. Still, these are very minor points compared to the positives. I rated 4*, hearted, and tagged with 'Beautiful'. Nice work, well done. | 2009-09-11 19:42:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I removed the human figure and made the race have a shorter time. Ill get to the F4F levels ASAP. Sorry it took so long. Should I make a sequel (Hot) that has warm vibrant colours instead of relaxing cool ones? | 2009-09-13 01:34:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I removed the human figure and made the race have a shorter time. Ill get to the F4F levels ASAP. Sorry it took so long. Should I make a sequel (Hot) that has warm vibrant colours instead of relaxing cool ones? I definitely think you should make a sequel. I'm not sure if "Hot" would be the best opposite title .. of course that's completely up to you! Some suggestions I have are: "Dark"; "Burnt." When I think of Pale, I think of a pale face. One that's flushed, almost white or without color ... Hot is more of a temperature - but hey, I won't cut stars away if you go with Hot! With whatever you choose to do, good luck! I'm looking forward to it. | 2009-09-13 02:13:00 Author: Powershifter Posts: 668 |
KK. I Think perhaps Warm instead, maybe dark, you never know. | 2009-09-13 02:28:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
If you do make a level that is trying to be the opposite of this one, I'd like to see some fast paced, heart pounding sort of level. You know, so as to oppose the easy going nature of Pale. | 2009-09-13 02:28:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Yeah it would be fast paced. Not a super demanding challenge but it will have a large race in it. | 2009-09-13 02:30:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |

I really liked it, it has a wonderful atmosphere. It reminded me a bit of IKEA, but that also was fun. I gave it 5 stars and a heart. | 2009-09-15 19:33:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
