Help with a keypad!
Archive: 6 posts
I know there are good keypads out there, but I wanna learn how to make them myself... I realise comphermc has a good lock system and rtm223 has an ordered inputs tool but can someone explain start to finish how a keypad works? Sorry for asking such a long and complicated question, but I'd be very greatful | 2009-09-06 15:56:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Wow...not me unfortunately... but i imagine your question is large, since there is probably tons of different ways to construct a keypad! Perhaps can you be more precise in the type of keypad you want to work on... | 2009-09-06 18:16:00 Author: Takelow Posts: 1355 |
You're looking for a keypad locking system? Basically they work like an AND gate, where you have to get all the inputs together to unlock the final product. However, you also have to add a bit of logic in there so that ONLY your combo will work (ie: hitting 12345,12345,12345 won't come up with teh real code of 152.) Like takelow said you can build them in a lot of different ways. RTM and Comphermc use an ordered input tool, which is probably the best way to do it. If you want to see how that works, go into create mode , move the tool so you can see it, then start fiddling with the switches. Not sure that really answers your question... but hope it helps. | 2009-09-06 18:30:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
Hey, sorry I'm late to the party and didn't answer your message  It's quite a simple device to use, just set your inputs to 1-shot and then connect them to the blocks that have 1 emitter and 1 green key on them. If there are left over inputs that you don't use - i.e you have a full number keypad and your code is 012345, then 6-9 wont be used - add an extra block for each unused input to the right of the device and it will activate the reset logic. That bits kinda hard to explain and I beleive comphermc came up with an alternative solution as well. I've got to rush off, but if you check back to the object showcase thread there are instructions on how to set up the device. Hope this helps. | 2009-09-06 18:42:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
There are 100s of different ways to wire up a keypad/lock. If you are looking to make a specific one, I can hopefully tell you how to make it or give you an example. For example, there is a keypad that someone made that actually looks like a real lock, complete with a screen. I believe it was SeniorGhost. Anyway, my point is that locks come in all shapes and sizes. | 2009-09-06 20:41:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
Sorry for being unclear guys, but I actually made one myself because I was too impatient lol. Thanks again, and I'll be sure to try yours out rtm and the one by seniorghost you suggested | 2009-09-07 02:30:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
