Whichever Way the Wind Blows- Finale?

Archive: 12 posts

Just a thought at the moment, but i would like to see peoples' opinions on the idea before i go ahead making it...

Basically my Whichever Way the Wind Blows series is a set of levels all with different themes but including the same balloon and similar floaty balloon rides.

I was considering starting a final boss battle some time in December (if i have enough time) to round the series up.

The boss would have to be the Wind itself as that is the only common element of each story... i would therefore make it into some sort of cloud face (maybe cartoony or like mdaj's faces with gas) and it would have to be my biggest boss battle to date!

Now i want ur honest opinion: is this too cheesy for quite a serious collection of levels? Would u prefer i made more levels for the series (i.e. Green, Silver etc)? Should i just leave it as it is?

Remember i might not even have enough time during my holiday once im at uni- i have no idea how hard its going to be! But I will value ur opinion on the matter if i get chance to build another level.

Thanks, ladylyn1.

I actually like your idea for a final boss, and fighting against the wind itself is a clever idea. I also think it should be a slightly cartoony cloud face (like how you mentioned). It would be a great way to round up the series in my opinion.

Also if you have the time, I'd like to see just one more "normal" level (like Blue version, Gold version etc.) before the finale.

I've really enjoyed the series, so I'd love to see more of them personally. The finale sounds cool, but since the series is so varied, I feel like each one is a different experience. I understand if you want to move on to a different idea though.2009-09-06 22:45:00

You can made a little showdown against Wind, and then if you wish, continue with the series.
What I think perhaps is that you shouldn't feel forced to continue the series.
Try something else, then when you feel ready for the new episode of WWtWB, start to work on it.
If you will obsessively continue with this series, you will lose freshness.

Like mrsupercomputer said, I would love to see you continue this series rather than finish it up. I feel it has great personality, and as I commented on your Red level I think it was, there's a lot of potential for the series to be a great, long-lasting, franchise.
But also like mrsupercomputer said, if you just want to move on to new levels or just don't have time than that's a whole other issue.

But if you do want to continue, I think it would be really neat if you made a boss level like you described, but have it not as a finale, but rather as a kind of end to the first section (think Sonic's 'Acts' and 'Zones&apos. Then you could continue with the series, maybe with some sort of new twist but keeping its feel.

if the juices are flowing to make an epic boss battle i say go with it. you can always go back and add more levels in if you feel like it. i think its important to do something when the inspiration hits otherwise if you postpone an idea and try to go back to it later it may feel a little forced and might not come out as good as when you had the original energy.2009-09-07 05:12:00

I say you should leave your concept and series as it is. Continue to make new levels in it until you feel you're done.

I LOVE your series right now, well crafted levels with FUN platforming, great visuals and like your effort of even decorating the background.

Each time I start a Wind level its like a surprise, you never know where you will fall and that's this feeling that is genuis. When you finish the level, you feel relief somehow as the balloon goes back up. This is a GREAT concept, it flows just right. It's like some sort of a dream.

I wouldn't like that feeling (that I'm used to) to be gone just up battling a boss. A boss doesn't necessarily mean "end" and games don't end better because there's a voice.

What could be an interesting end to the wind series could be a mountain setting. Everything starts as normal but at the end, you expect to take to the balloon and it break. You rise up but lose a balloon, then another, and then the cockpit falls. The dream ends...

the thing is with the whichever way the wind blows series you can continue it on for as long as you want (or till you run out of colours) and in each level you express your creative style in different settings making new challenges and because its a well known series its easier to get plays with it when your trying new styles. But a boss fight against the wind would be awesome and since your in Uni i would advise a boss fight since you don't want to be worrying to much about LBP.2009-09-07 17:36:00

I think there needs to be a green before the Finale. Just my opinion. Im starting to compare your levels to The Legend of Zelda BTW. (Green, Red, Blue) And I like that boss concept.2009-09-09 00:28:00

The wind should be omniescient(?), like a voice that appears out of nowhere. Maybe the boss could be a wind powered machine?(the wind blows on it which turns a cog or something which starts it up).2009-09-09 11:58:00

You should just do whatever you feel like doing. No one can make a good level if they don't want to make it! If want my opinion though, your series is VERY popular and you can just make a few more to get a couple ten thousand plays and what-not. My idea for one of them (That is if you want to make more) A Black one. Very spooky. You can have fun with that one i would assume. Just Ideas 2009-09-10 02:14:00
