I'm flattered. I was actually considering making a level showcase thread for it here!

On a related note, this is by far my most successful level. I judge the success of my levels on their heart : play ratio, with 1 : 10 being a good score. At the moment this level is just scoring better than 1 : 10 !

IT WAS AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

I'm currently working on a Steampunk themed level myself... but wow... did this level blow me away!!! Where did you get the concept? Where did you get the ideas for this level design!? It is just amazing!
I'm hearted it and I'm going to try and ace it later for the prize
Absolutely beautiful. Nothing felt out of place, and the enemies were unqiue and interesting.
The only down side was the lag from all the lights and the bad camera angle when vsing that melee tank but apart from that it was amazing! The puzzles and the setting and the way you... omg... it was just great.

I personally don't like the pop-out and shoot game-play, but still it was worth the play.

Here are some photos. I hope you don't mind croissantbuncake

Believe it or not it all started out as a level to test if it was possible to have enemies with tank tracks (It was built shortly after RZ's tutorial was released, in January I think).
Ideas just came from my head, I'm an architecture student and self-taught artist so I reckon they msy hsve had an influence.
Lag-wise, I made it semi intentional since on my connection it makes the flames look like a single stream, though in retrospect I never thought of how it would look on other conections. That camera angle will have to go! I'm ashamed I could have done such a thing, since I hate bad camera angles on obstacles.. such a hypocrit .
Care to elaborate on what you mean by pop out and shoot? (it actually defines the aceing prise!).

Thanks for the pictures!!

Pop out in shoot, where you move to one layer to dodge the bullets and you pop back to the other layer and spam your paintanator.

I'm currently experimenting with the paintanator if it's possible to dodge multiple bullets in one layer by jumping, running across and so on. (like the Metal Gear Rex boss)

I wish i had ANY artistic talent.... i have ideas... but i have a really big problem getting them out of my head and onto paper.... that's what you get for working with computers all day long

Oh! I also aced it and got 2nd place! Yay! Just an idea, adding rubble and having the tanks run over it might be a cool effect. Sorta adds to the "We're under attack" kinda feeling

Try playing the level again and just wait around the first tank without destroying it to see what happens when you let it alone for too long on a smooth surface, let alone one with rubble on it .

The sequel will have a refined version of the tanks that only uses one thick and one thin layer, therefore allowing 3 to pass eachother at once, with better treads of course!

Edit: I can't see what you want working with much else other than plasma, it seems to be the only thing that can travel slow enough to act as an obstacle as well as a projectile.

Oh right... i get your problem haha.

I also realized.... do you want the player to destroy the melee tank? Because I just bypassed it by jumping on the platforms and then dropping down to the lower level. Unless thats what you want them to do.

And the note on plazmas, I'm trying to do a bit of both, find other alternatives for plazmas but also try and find ways and patterns for plazmas to shoot so the player can come up with a tactic accordingly.
Something like having 2 turrets in the same zone, but reducing the plazma size and then making it shoot at a lower angle, so the sackboy must jump to dodge the plazma. Ofcourse just jumping and shoot would prove to be boring so setting up plazma balls emitting from different angles allowing the player to move around and jump to avoid the plazma balls. (all on one layer)

It was an attempt at an alternate route, I guess, a bit of a waste in retrospect. I may revise it so it requires you take out the tank to progress.2009-09-07 13:20:00
