Creative way of getting from point A to point B

Archive: 14 posts

I am in need pf help big time. In my level that I've been working on for a while, I have a setup that has the player on a small ciff with a ledge trying to get on an opposing ciff face with another ledge high above. I just can't think of a way to get the player up to the other ledge. A good one at least. I've tried at least 3 or 4 terrible things with jumpers popping you everywhere... Any suggestions?2009-09-05 23:09:00

Could you have the player shimmy up a rope? Or maybe build a broken bridge between the ledges? Make a "grappling hook" mechanic that automatically drags sacky across (or at least partially).

Hope those spark some creative ideas there

A teleporter, which teleports the player to an alternate reality, which the player must advance through until he/she reaches the next teleporter, which will teleport them to point B.2009-09-06 03:10:00

Do you need to go vertical?

Take a look at the jump pads in CaptainCowboyHat's OH NO!!! series. They are wicked fun.

I don't remember. Just play them all, they're great. It might be the first one, but I'm not certain.

It could be just a little launching pad, that you have to drag over to the cliff to hop up, if that goes well with the theme.2009-09-06 06:28:00

A teleporter, which teleports the player to an alternate reality, which the player must advance through until he/she reaches the next teleporter, which will teleport them to point B.

More specific version ...

It goes into a "cut-scene" where the player announces their decision to use the "powerful science of philosophy" to semantically argue that their already on the other ledge.

Teleport-cut to a minigame - preferably a word based one.

Upon completion, the player immediately teleports back to the "play area" on the other ledge.

We catch Sackboy finishing a sentence we didn't hear the beginning of, something to the effect of

"... therefore, it becomes obvious I've actually been standing in THIS spot all along."

Continue with level.

... Then go on to argue that black is white and up is down so convincingly that the universe collapses upon itself. All that is left is abstract plane of existance rotating around a singularity, and largely made from sponges. Sackboy must travel to the heart of the rotating spongiverse and appologise to the singularity so that it re-expands before the Jintangii have time to foce their way through the dimensional rift and devour our reality.

I think a music change to "The Appliance of Science" would be appropriate at this juncture...

Could you have a small caves section inside the second cliff to climb? Caves totally lend themselves to travelling upwards.

Sorry guys, got sucked into working on my level and didn't see all your comments. Lol at yours, Jagrevi, that's awesome. I might have to use that later on...
Anyways I played All the OH NO levels and got really inspired for the part I'm working on. (It was the second level you were thinking of, btw). Thanks for the suggestions.

I would have made a sign that says "Conveniently placed elevator", with an elevator next to it. It would have been both witty and solved your problem. 2009-09-06 20:52:00

I've used the idea in levels in the past, though not in the same way. It looks and works great, and it gets the player(s) from point A to B the quickest and with the least hassle possible. The jump pads are great, but a massive pain with more than one player.
