The Descent 3 (Project)

Archive: 8 posts

I'm taking a little break from building, but I am building the 3rd installment to my series "The Descent". I don't know if you've played part 1 & 2, but I wanted some feedback on what you wanted to see in Part 3.

Any requests or suggestions?

You've mastered spooky levels, but let's see what else you can do. How 'bout some puzzles or a direct confrontation with one of the creatures in the cave. This doesn't mean you have to abandon your atmosphere, it will just challenge you a little more as a creator.

Hope you're up to the task

I'm greatly looking forward to this.

Honestly, I would like to be surprised. I want something unexpected to happen - plot wise, I'm not talking about a sudden startle.

Maybe you don't feel you can go too far out there if you stay completely loyal to the movie ... and maybe that's the problem.

Oh, I think they've been great, and you can home-brew the third installment up all on your own, however, with that said... I had a great deal of fun interacting with objects found in the caverns, if those objects were part of a still larger mystery/puzzle that could be cool.2009-09-04 20:44:00

Can't wait, can't wait!

I loved The Descent 1&2, they were so awsome in a creepy way, I would like to see more of that.

And that creature would be a nice boss! Have you seen the boss in Crow-'s relevant evil? it is awesome!
If you manage to make some sort of boss original, and cool boss out of the thing.
Also more puzzles would be nice.

Can't wait, cant wait!

And thanks for reccomending some scary levels!

I got a few ideas for it that will knock your socks off!
I really didn't stick to the story on part 2, and I'm not planning to on part 3
This is going to be the last installment though
I just don't know if I should wait for the water pack or use the layer glick, since I've heard some ppl saying that they're going to take it away..
What do you guys think?

Wait for water pack ... I think that's a great idea. Although to be fair, it might be QUITE a while, so I wouldn't just sit around "on your thumbs" with the rest of the project.

As far as using the layer glitch - definitely use it (I don't say that much - I usually tell people the opposite). However, this is a series to which a great feeling of open space would be great (at some points, I'm sure some points would want a cramped feeling). As for them potentially removing it - that's all the more reason to use it now. I guarantee they won't delete people's levels, or even the "space the layers exist in" (they use them themselves in the intro). Like all the other fixes, it would just be so that we can no longer put stuff in the back, so we can no longer recreate it.

These two pieces of advice might seem contradictory, but you could easily create a level "shell" now, marking where you want the water, and fill it in later.

Plus there's an advantage to releasing your project on the day water comes out ... everyone will be playing that day, and going out of their way to look at the new levels coming online.
