Post Reputation System

Archive: 9 posts

OK, I think this would be a nice idea..

I can't find the way to explain this, so if you head on over to www.teenhut.net and register, and look at the rep system there, and then see if it would work here?

Basicly - Each post has a little icon at the bottom, which opens the rep menu, which you can then choose to positive or negative rep someone's post. At the corner of the user's name box on the post there's a bar which shows the amount of rep gained.

The number of reps : number of reputation blobs on the bar is adjustable by the admins too.

Hm... Maybe there shouldn't be any thumbs down? Just a thumbs up if you think it's a good post...? I dunno. Good idea though 2008-09-15 20:29:00

No, no and no.

Sorry about this <_< I don't mean anything against you.
Let me explain myself.

I've seen this on a few forums, not many use this feature. I have to say, it's pretty fun...but only at the start. 2 years ago, a huge forum I still go to had just implemented the rep system when I joined. It started out nice. Sure, people only repped others for saying "Good job" or "Nice post". But after a few months, it became more than that. People were repping (As we call it) others for no reason. It became a race for "Who had the most rep points!". Friends were repping other friends. Apparently, the more rep you had, the more 'cool' you got. I hated that....I was one of those people <_< I was in the top 5 "Rep whores" lol. People would rep others, just to get repped back. We'd talk about it, and make bets.
A year later, it got way out of control. Rep points was sorta like currency there. "I make you a signature/avatar, you rep me"
Now? The #1 person who has the most rep, has like over 4000 points, which is IMMENSE. She makes people rep her by acting nice and all. I let go the rep whoring a long time ago. It has also been banned to talk about rep in threads lol, it want to that point.

And today, part of the forum is somewhat corrupt because of that. Elitism existing just because they have more rep. The average member had no idea what was going on behind the curtains. (But there were more things happening anyway)

I've seen this happen in 2 forum.

I really don't want this forum to have the same drastic change.
Rep is only fun in the first few months, from what I've seen.

Now, this forum IS different...So meh, who knows.
If you guys are willing to embrace it, then go ahead.

Edit: In any case, I've had experience with the rep system. You could ask me if you're always more interested

I see what you mean, but I've seen tons of forums where it's not like that. It just shows who makes good posts etc, I wasn't trying to make it fun, but it could help others improve their posts, when they read the comments they get from others etc 2008-09-15 20:51:00

No no I know what you mean xD
That is true, but people get also angry when the get de-repped. It starts problems from my experience <_< One of the downsides of the system lol.

I'm gonna go neutral for this one.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It seems like the LBPC community is mature enough to keep the reps sensible though, don'tya think ?2008-09-15 21:11:00

Oh yeah, I believe so too. That's one of the unique things about this forum, the community. It'll be interesting to see how it'll be used here. I'm pretty sure most members will keep it at a mature level. (And by mature, I mean not whore it =P)

Yeah I think it is a good idea but also there is the thread rating system already and I don't think very many people use that, so I don't know if this is totally needed or not. It would be nice to see people make use of the thread rating system so you can know hey thihs thread is good or not. But it is not used. Well we shall see I guess.2008-09-15 21:54:00

I'm intrigued. There's a rep system already in place, so it's easy to set up. I have a deal: If I activate it and you guys handle it well, we'll keep it. The second it starts becoming more than just a "good job!" or a "thank you!", I'll take it away. Give me some time to set it up.2008-09-16 00:57:00
