Emitter Vehicle and Gravity Equilbrium?

So this dawned upon last night while i was standing in the shower, cause you know all great ideas come to people when they're taking a shower XD

Anyways, i know emmitter vehicles are a much more effect way to travel over the uncontrolable rockets.

So i was thinking, is there a certain point in a which a emmitter-based flying device can defy gravity but not rise? So instead it just hovers there? Kinda like the point in which the upwards force is perfectly equal with the gravity of lbp.

It's possible, but the problem with any vehicles you want to keep at a stable air position is Sackboy. The vehicle has to be able to stay up with no weight, with the weight of a sackboy and possibly with the weight of up to four sackpeople. This is further complicated because Sackboy can move and jump around rapidly, which alters the distribution of weight randomly.

Ultimately, if you want your vehicle to work, it'll have to detect and compensate for these weight changes (probably by altering its emitter frequencies independently) as well as have some kind of self-righting mechanism. I don't think this is really much more controllable than using low-power Rockets.

Unless you have an anchor in your vehicle (i.e a square hole in the thin layer) into which you continuously emit a piece of dark matter. You would have to have a normal movement mode and a no-movement mode, but it might work.2009-09-04 16:55:00

To develop on what gilgamesh said, even when pinning sack in place (i.e. he could be sitting in a square shaped hole) pushing the stick either direction can still affect the balance, it's part of how the antigrav box works, it's aalso how you control the direction of my rhemora jet fighters.2009-09-04 17:39:00

I actaully attempted to create this, it actually hovered in place using emmiters, but when i put sackboy I had to add a little more power like Gilgamesh said, then also as gilgamesh said, if sackboy moved the slightest bit the vechicle would rotate a faction of a turn and be sent launching either left or right. Ill have to find a a stablizing device (a gyroscope i think its called?) to help make it more efficient to contain sackboy. I can probably just make one myself by placing emitter vehicle-based launchers on the left and right side with a sliding glass cube with a mag switch on it, when if it leans the cube will slide and activate the corresponding emmitter to stablize the vehicle. Ill see what i can do

ill probably shrink the containment area to make easier steering like croissantbuncake said

I made my Emitter Engine Demo a couple months ago. When messing around, you can get it to take off and control it somewhat in the air, though it is mostly a vertical flight. This concept could most likely be tweaked to work, someone left a comment on that level with a better flying version of an emitter engine that they made, though it worked basically on emitting ramps.2009-09-04 20:28:00
