Your first videogame!

Archive: 40 posts

Hi everybody,

Last night, i was thinking about when i was youger and discovered for the first time vidogames. It was on an ATARI2600, that was not mine but to my uncle, and i only played Pac-Man sometimes. It might be 25 years ago.
Few years latter, my parents bought my brother and i a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) for Christmas.
It was a true revolution in videogame, and we discovered the "new generation" of game with Mario bros and Metroid. I played Mario a lot. Metroid was a very hard game....until i understood (several weeks latter) that the number code the game gave you at the "game over" was sort of primitive "save" in a game... Wouch! It was more confortable! (But the game remained hard however....).
Nevertheless, these two games have a particular place in my head.
And you, what are your firsts videogames? It seems interesting to cross generations of the forum in such a question

I think SMB for NES. It's hard to remember nowadays, it might have been Tetris or some other game. But I had an NES when I was like 3-4.2009-09-04 10:29:00

My first game was Mario Bros for NES. I was around 5 years old. It was my cousin's. He let me play since I was fascinated, and a few tries later I beat the first stage. From there on I played more, even had an Atari. It turns out I would have a future in gaming. From that day onward, gaming was embedded as a deep passion for me. And many years later at the age of 23, I'm a veteran/hardcore gamer. I love reminiscing on my gaming past. Almost brings a tear to my eye.2009-09-04 10:53:00

Horace Goes Skiing on the Spectrum 48k. Took 10 minutes to load, then 1 minute for me to get sick of it and try something else

I don't know whether thats classed as a computer game or a video game though

Hahahaha look at all the wrinklies with their retro tat.

The first game I remember playing was Lego Island. It came out when I was 2, almost 3...I don't think I owned it from day 1 anyway.

I can't even remember. It was way back when NES came along. Never owned that but I have several friends who owned it. I remember the NES and gameboy days. And the Sega master system. Before that? Can't remember much.2009-09-04 11:29:00

The first game I remember playing was Crash Bandicoot for PS1 (the original).

That still remains, to this day, my favourite game of all time, and leaves Naughty Dog as my favourite game devs (sorry Mm ).

The MicroBugs (or Micro Bugs) is the first game that I properly remember. Kind of a Tron-esque "shrinking down and going into the computer" idea. I think there were all kinds of puzzles you had to solve to fix the bugs in the computer.

I doubt anyone else on this forum has ever played that game lol.

I think it was Tetris on the original gameboy.

I used to play a lot of SNES games at my best friends' house and among those Zelda & Mario were my favourites.

I got a PC back in 97 where I enjoyed myself with a lot of DOS games: Worms, Earthworm Jim, Jazz Jackrabbit, ect...
On that same PC, I discovered my all time favourite game: Curse of Monkey Island.
I fell in love with that game at young age and have played it many times through the years. Such a great game, enjoyable as a kid...even more enjoyable as an adult when you finally get all the jokes.

I never got a real console until the PSX days so obviously some of those era are among my favourites: Crash Bandicoot, FFIX, Megaman Legends, Medievil, MGS, ect..

That's a GREAT first game! ^_^

My first game was Pac Man. I was about 4 years old. I'd say it was like 1982. I am fortunate to have grown up in a time when video games were rapidly evolving. I love seeing where games were when I started playing and where they are now. I look at games like Fallout 3 and Batman and can't believe that 20 some years ago I was amazed by killing duck dragons in Adventure for the Atari 2600!

Oooh, I don't remember the first one, but I can narrow it down to Blobbo, Onyx, Prince of Persia and Lemmings. But I do remember Glider and SimCity 2000 being there too. Hmmm, there was also some game that taught you how to use a computer (or just the mouse) where you had guide a diver to the bottom of the sea.

All played on this:http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d8/Macintosh_classic.jpg

mrv and I must agree with your choice whole heartedly. We love that game. The best of the Crash games by far.

It was either Encarta (not really a game but it had a maze thingy ) or Myst.

First 3D game was Red Faction I think.

Being young I didn't play many games just freddie fish learning stuff; games like myst took a few weeks to complete so we didn't need more games to play.

Yeah I talked to him about that before when I noticed his avatar was Crash, like mine

You just can't beat the classics, can you?

I actually still play the original 4 quite often. Even now, Crash Team Racing is still loads of fun with a few people

Some NES game probably... no clue. Or one of those "learning" games.

I think the first game I completed was Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, so that sticks out in my mind... though I only took over from the Ice Palace from my brother, but still ;o.

OMG! This might be the game I played when I was really young that I've since forgotten the name to. What was it for?

1984 at Christmas...

I only been playing some PacMan, Donkey Kong and some old DOS computer games but my father knew I was fascinated by videogames it seems. So, Christmas morning I enter the living room and do I see? A TV and videogame console plugged in. My father gave us (me and my brother) and Atari 2600 with Pole Position and Baseball. You wouldn't believe how trippy this was. The euphoria I felt inside.

Looks like I am hooked to videogames since then and making a living out of them!!

I had it on an Acorn Archemedies, but I think it was originally for the BBC Micro, I'm not sure.

Check out the image, this game was so big it had to be distributed on two (oh yeah, you heard right) floppy discs. Mind boggling lol.

It was a PC game called Math Blaster. It was actually pretty fun, and was obviously educational. Looking back it's funny, as I am now studying math in college...2009-09-05 15:07:00

The first I ever played was Super Mario Bros. on the NES if I recall correctly, but at the time our NES was owned by the whole family, not just me. (I think I was about 4 when I played it, and as I was born in the mid 90's, the NES was actually released for about 10 years by then.)

I'd rather not say the name of the first game I ever owned. Let's just say it was a game based on a TV show for babies, and it was on the PS1 (Although I was only about 5 at the time).

I can't remember the first game I played, but I can remember the first set of games I had. They were on the Texas Instruments Home Computer. I had Munch Man, Parsec, Alpine, Car Wars, Hunt The Wumpus, Hangman, and Star Trek. 2009-09-06 16:57:00

Humbug! Imgur wasn't working when I first posted. I've fixed it.

I don't remember the first game I ever PLAYED, but it likely would have been an atari game at my friend's house. The first I ever OWNED was ye olde Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt on the NES.

Hmm... the first game I EVER played... I think it was either Doom 2 on PC or Disney's Aladdin in Nasira's Revenge on the PS1. Funny thing is that I learned how to play a shooter, flight simulator and Mech Warrior game before I was ever put onto educational software. Guess that explains to my quick adaptiveness in COD4 2009-09-07 06:44:00

Hmmmm I'm not too sure what my first game was. I know that my brother had a NES and i fondly remember playing Super Mario Bros. and other classics, even my mum beating Super Mario Bros. inhumanly fast. Also my brother got a SEGA Mega Drive and I remember playing that but never having any of my own games for it. Next up for me was the Original GAME BOY. My dad bought me this just as something to have one day and it came with Super Mario Bros. Then I got more and more games and here I am today with countless games and consoles!2009-09-07 10:43:00
