Sewer Survival [Pics Added]

Archive: 15 posts

Well I just joined LBPCentral and wanted to advertise one of my levels! It's named Sewer Survival: Survival Challenge. It's a short, fun, and challenging survival challenge. I created it months ago but since I joined LBPCentral I finally get the chance to advertise it It takes place in a sewer where you avoid gas and dodge gross sewer sludge It's a level you could play if you've got an extra few minutes on your hands, but you may find it addicting and end up playing for more than just a few minutes (maybe)
Just one more thing I wanted to say is that one of my little bro's friends thought it would be funny to give it one star while it had 4 stars and 10 plays and it brought it down to 3 stars It's no big deal but I thought maybe I could get some help from you guys here at the Forums But only give it a higher rating if you really truly think it deservers it! Thanks!!

Hey Piggabling, I saw this thread, but completely forgot to respond! Sorry about that. Anyway, I played this level a while back and I already gave you my thoughts, but I'll say again that it was a simple, but fun Survival level. I loved the look and the difficulty ramped up nicely. Nice work.2009-09-30 21:55:00

Hey piggabling, nice to see you over here I already got to know you via level comments. So... If you want to create an advanced randomizing system, as stated via the comments (if I remember correctly), I suggest taking a look at this thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=17081).

I really like your survival. Nice visual style and original concept! Putting the player on an angled glass platform is a good idea. That way, players have to keep moving all the time, even if there is no direct danger.

You could add more different types of garbage and stuff to make it even more interesting. How about a box of cardboard (stickered dissolve or cow-glitched dissolve cardboard) which vanishes if you grab it, leaving behind a couple of bubbles?

Also, I'd like to see some green (foggy?) lighting effects on the pipes while they're emitting their deadly gas.

Just a few suggestions

I found this when I was checking Treas hearted levels. Let me just say I agree with mrsupercomputer that it's a simple and fun challenge.2009-10-01 09:31:00

Hi

Nice idea for a survival challenge and well executed. I had a lot of fun playing and I'm sure I'll be playing it again!

Thanks to all of you for playing and for your suggestions! The level had been sitting on 118 plays for months and I saw that I had grabbed a few more plays (thanks to the people here!)

@Treas
Those are some great suggestions! I never thought of those. If I can work them into my level I surely will. It'll give me something to do because I can't finish a level with any sort of story!

Okay, I added a few updates to the level which include:

Small boxes that you grab to get bubbles (they appear using Treas' randomizer )

Green foggy lighting when the gas emits

A picture room with earnable "Behind The Scenes" pictures

Now with the update much higher scores are possible and you get small rewards for surviving!

Played your level again and I really like the tweaks you have made. Good fun to play and I think you've pitched the difficulty nicely. Great job!

As I think I'm the only person to have re-played since the introduction of the boxes, I currently have the top slot on the scoreboard (woot!) but I'm sure that is going to be very temporary!

Haha! Those boxes can really bump up your score! I had to change the boxes three or four times to get them right but I finnaly did and it works great!

Keep the feedback coming so I can keep improving the level! Thanks!

Also, how do you post pictures on here? I'm not too smart when it comes to that! I really want to post some for you guys

Use the ingame screenshot tool (the one you use to create stickers with) to take some nice snapshots. Open up your "My stickers" popit, select a screenshot you want to show us, press square and choose "export to hdd".

After a few seconds, a message should pop up, telling you that the transfer was successful. Do this with all screenshots of choice.

After having exported everything, quit LBP and plug an USB-stick, SD card or some other kind of data-transfer module into your PS3. select the LBP folder on your XMB (you might have to press square a few times to get the categories right) and copy it to your stick.

A message will pop up. Select "rename" for all pictures. On your Ps3's harddrive, all screenshots of LBP carry the same name. Common hardware has problems with that, so you'll have to let the ps3 rename all screenshots.

After that, it's quite simple; connect the usb stick to your PC and copy the pics over to your HDD.

Now, select any image hoster ( www.imageshack.us, www.flickr.com etc) and upload your pictures. Get the "direct image links" from all of your screenshots and embed them in BBCode IMG-tags. You could either do so by writing [.IMG] url of the picture [./IMG] (without the ".") or by just clicking the "insert image" button in the toolbar and pasting the link in.

Hope this helped

Alright, I finally got some pics for everyone! I've got one of the logic and one of the actual play area. I had to take the picture before the action started because it is darn near impossible to take a picture while the challenge is underway! But nonetheless, here are a couple of pictures!

I liked it, original mechanics and a good sense of humor. Although, I thought it felt kind of static - it seemed like the best strategy was to try and angle my analog so I was trying to balance on the glass incline, which wasn't that fun. Maybe replacing the glass incline with a conveyor might make the level feel more frantic.

MM's survival levels typically have huge parts of the levels moving - I think this makes the levels feel more dynamic and fun. It's a tough balance to reach. Maybe having tubes coming from above, while you're running forward on a conveyor belt - or maybe having tubes moving up and down, while the level tilts back and forth - I don't know if you get my drift.

Overall a pretty cool level, props for originality!

Well, I do actually think that the glass proves to be more of a challenge than a conveyor belt system would be. Think of it - you can keep your position on a conveyor belt by just walking at the right speed. Glass, however, lets you slip down no matter what you do. You'll have to jump in order to keep your balance.

A second point is that conveyor belts have already been used for quite some survival challenges. Think of the Discobombulator (don't know its english name, that one's from the german version). Mm's metropolis-SC.

I do only have one suggestion: All of the debris and point bubbles disappear outside of the playing area - so, why don't you let them spawn outside as well? You've got a steel grate to the left side. I'd emit the objects behind that grate, with a certain speed. Seeing them appear out of nowhere just doesn't seem natural in a way.

Still, great, original and fun survival, and definitely one amongst my favorites!

Well you see I used glass instead of a conveyer belt:
1) Because I didn't know how to make conveyor belts when I made this. HaHa!

2) Because the glass is supposed to act as filthy sewer water. I figured that a conveyor belt would not suit this level anyway.

Although, I do see what you're getting at. Also a really don't have a clue on how to make a sewer more dynamic. I mean really what else can I put in it.

@ Treas
My oringinal plan was to make all the stuff come out of the grate, but I ended up changing that for some reason. I'm not sure why. I'll take a look at it.

By the way, has anyone reached the point in the challenge when the "Special Danger" from- uhhm- somewhere in the level?
