If This Isn't Fixed, I'm Through!!!!

Archive: 16 posts

I am so POd right now, you don't even have a clue how POd I am. I must be really POd to say I'm through considering that I am an avid LBP fan.

I spent a good 5 hours last night working on a level of danmaku shmup demonstrations, which ended in an intelligent auto-aiming system (not the same as regular auto-aim system), I saved and then left and everything was like normal. Today I get on and everything is gone except for a few things from the start of level. But 75% of what I worked on is gone. Last night I captured some of the things I made in case this happened. Well, even the captured things are gone, including the aiming system (which is complex, not simple). This could have to do with the PS3 automatic update I installed today which restarts the PS3, but then why would that effect LBP?

I've heard people speak about system restarting and then things saved are gone, but my system didn't even restart last night, so this was unexpected. Something similar happened to me before when I made some costumes and saved them, then game froze, so I had to restart PS3 and then when it loaded the costumes were all gone.

I am more of a creator than a player, and this is why I say I am through if this isn't fixed in the near future. What is the point of even trying to create anything if the save feature doesn't work. I am about POd to the point of tears. This isn't just a minor problem. This is a serious one, and in one form or another lots of people have experienced similar things.

It's more than likely it was the update, an issue on Sony's part, not Media Molecule's. It is unfortunate that this all is happening, but if you have to be angry at someone, don't make it Media Molecule. The issue is widespread, and I'd advise anyone who hasn't installed it yet to hold off until Sony fixes it. Again, it's terrible that this happened to you, but you are far from alone in this issue, and the best thing to do is wait and see what Sony can do to remedy the situation. The fact that it isn't Media Molecule's fault doesn't fix your profile, but don't throw your disc out the window just yet.2009-09-01 23:37:00

Not saying you did, but when you ignore the "Profile Full" message and save stuff, it gets deleted.
This isn't the case if you didn't have those messages.
I have no Idea what it could have been otherwise.

I'm not through, I was just saying if it doesn't get fixed in the future then . . . I don't know. I too think it might be an issue with Sony and not MM, which is why I brought up the update.

As for profile full, I did get a message like 5 days ago saying this, but then I deleted a lot of stuff. I had to delete a lot of stuff since I was working on a creation.

I better change the title. I hate pointing fingers if I don't know where the cause is coming from.

I feel for you. I've had data corrupted and lost tons of stuff myself loads of times in the past. Only a few weeks ago I had dozens of created objects either go invisible or get the 'red blob of death' on and become totally unusable.

It's been a real pain for many months but no matter how many times I point it out or complain no-one at Mm seems to care. I've emailed them loads of times and sent private messages to Spaff but never had one reply. They basically don't give a toss.

There are lots of horror stories around today aswell with people losing data after the PS3 firmware 3.0 update. I haven't logged on yet so I'm expecting heaps of crap when I do.

It's just not good enough and I hope you can manage to sort something out but I'm sorry I don't know how. I hope you stick around too because you have some great ideas and seem passionate about it which is what we need more of.

I understand. Happened to me 2 times. Best thing you can do is publish a locked unfinished version. That way if it does get deleted, it's still saved on the server. Copy it to your moon. Bam! Instant extra insurance.2009-09-01 23:44:00

This situation is known. It's not the firmware. During the first months the game was release, this bug where you DO save but it doesn't save properly was happening like once a week here. Since Cornish Yarg update (last spring) it's VERY RARE but it still happen.

Your only solution is the back up your save more often. ALWAYS publish your levels and your objects/stickers in level that you also publish online but locked. This way, it's backed up on Media Molecule's server.

Always do this. I had this bug during the winter once and you can't begin to imagine how happy I was to have a backup.

Same kind of thing happened to me about a week ago.

I made a rather large level, with loads of sound effects, custom creatures, tons of building work (scenery, etc.) and a gigantic dinosaur for the final boss.

I was working on it until early in the morning and had a massive headache from it, but I powered through and finished it.

Next day, poof, just like that, all the work I'd done (well over 80% of the level) had gone, as well as the objects.

You aren't alone.

This happens periodically. Best thing you can do is publish your level locked before you exit each time you work on it. That way, if you find you've lost anything you just need to quickly copy it back to your moon.

This is usually due to the file becoming corrupt somehow - I'm not sure how. But if LBP thinks the file is corrupt when you try to go back in, it will revert back to an earlier version of the file.

Yeah, thanks guys.

You're right, I should start publishing my creations locked. I save a lot when I save my levels. I'm paranoid about this, so I never forget to save. But it seems I will have to take this further step and start doing that for back up. I know this seems like a common sense thing to, but it just never occured to me to try that.

Hopefully the 250x profile space that should be coming in Leerdammer will help with this issue.

But yeah, otherwise, just back up however you can like everyone's said.

Don't worry, you're not alone with this either

If you look on the bright side... sometimes a fresh start can turn something good into spectacular!!!!

Technology... never reliable....don't trust your PS3! It will try to take over the world one day!

But yes.... it's very sad to loose something you worked on for a long time.... but look on the bright side, some people lost their levels that they worked on for months!!!!!
At least that didn't happen to you.... like i said look on the bright side

Always look on the bright side of life! La~~ La~~ La~~
Sing it with me peoples!

I feel better now. I'm glad I came here and let off some steam. It's good to know there's a nice community of fellow sacks to keep each other sane.

And yeah, that extra profile space will help a lot. It's funny that I create all the time, but have never published anything yet because I go from one thing I'm working on to another every time a new idea pops in my head. So it's possible I have too many levels/projects started on My Moon considering about half of the total free spaces on it are filled with unfinished projects. But the one I was working on that this happened to was practically finished except for the last step of the auto-aiming system. I'll just have to do it over. I do keep written (or typed) notes of my work, luckily.

Haha s3xNstilettos we're on the same boat.

I rarely stick to one thing when creating a level. Currently I have a steam-punk, nature, underwater, secret base, monster eye, evil snake, underground base, pyramid themed levels on my moon... all unfinnished!
