Hokaii, so here's mah problem: I need to make a three switch certain order open door thing. Picture help: http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/7006/ihaveconundrum.png Yellow - Doors that will move Red - Switch 1 Green - Switch 2 Blue - Siwtch 3 Black - Walls You know the kind of puzzle where you pull a switch and two doors open then you pull another switch and one door goes down and another goes up then you pull the third switch and all but one door close then you pull another switch and one door opens and the other two are shut? I need that kind of puzzle, but after about an hour of fiddling around with that ^^^ basic idea I have yet to come up with anything. Help? EDIT : I guess I'll have switch one activate doors 2 and 3, switch 2 activate doors 1 and 3, and switch 3 to activate door 1. **** this is hard to make hard AND possible. xD | 2009-09-01 03:31:00 Author: TheMarvelousHat Posts: 542 |
Are you basing that description off of my levels? That's what it sounds like (The "Stacked" Series). If so, I know exactly what your talking about. But I don't know if I should waste the time to write it all until I know what you mean | 2009-09-01 04:29:00 Author: goldenclaw13 Posts: 224 |
I kinda see what you're saying, and it's quite possible. You can do it solely with AND switches and OR switches. For example, hook the first switch to part of an AND switch that activates when the switch is pulled AND the door is closed AND any conflicting switches aren't pulled. Then when a conflicting switch is pulled the first door will retract. Does that make sense? | 2009-09-01 04:29:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |
Kind of a neat puzzle idea... It all comes down to finding the right combination of AND's. Then it's just a matter of wiring it up correctly. In fact, it shouldn't be that hard. First just put some two way switches on the ground in the direction that you want the solution to be. Then wire each door through an AND gate. Wire each of the two way switches to the AND gates that you want them to control (for example, hook each switch up to two different AND gates). Then set different pistons within your AND gates to inverted/not inverted so that your doors open as desired. Then reset all your two way switches and you have a completed puzzle. At least I hope... I'm super tired. | 2009-09-01 04:36:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
I'll send this up to the Enterprise for decoding xD This is really confusing but I think I can decipher it ... pictures help too if you have paint or whatever apple uses. EDIT: Kind of a neat puzzle idea... Only one of many I'll have in a Portal-esqe level with your levels as inspiration. | 2009-09-01 05:35:00 Author: TheMarvelousHat Posts: 542 |
It all comes down to finding the right combination of AND's. Then it's just a matter of wiring it up correctly. Awesome, we should totally get you to teach everyone logic: "jus' use the right switches like... and then jus wire 'em up mate. Sorted." (for some reason I'm imagining scouse accent here) If you give us more indication of exactly which of the doors open as you do each switch, that would likely help. | 2009-09-01 09:09:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Ha ha, I was tired, alright! It made sense in my head. At least I noted that it only required AND gates. I tried to explain what I saw getting at after that, but I may have failed... @MarvHat - it would indeed help to know the "combination" to explain it further. | 2009-09-01 14:09:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Heh, I know, it just made me chuckle. You may well want to be using some ORs as well (depending on the ssequence) - Although everything can be made with ANDs (technically NANDs, but it's the same device in LBP) but it's not really advisable. | 2009-09-01 14:20:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
I just made an identical device for one of my levels a couple days ago. It's a compact box that accepts up to 3 inputs, each one of which can toggle a switch. It is then connected to a basic state/toggle switch with three separate outputs. How it works in my level: There are five buttons and five locks. Button 1 controls 1 and 4. Button 2 controls 1, 2, and 5. Button 3 controls 3 and 4, etc. For each lock, there is the mechanism described above rigged to the lock, and the buttons are all rigged to multiple inputs. The result is a very nice, simple, and great looking puzzle. I have the mechanism and I'll give it out if you need it, though I'm hesitant about turning on the PS3, downloading the update, and losing everything, or even my PS3 as some people are reporting. | 2009-09-02 00:05:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
