Spoiler, posting, and just general problem

Archive: 10 posts

This has been going on for some time now, and I really don't know why. Spoilers won't open for me, all of the controls around the advanced posting thingummy are unusable, and I'm unable to quick edit. This used to work for me, but one day it just stopped. Anyone know why?2009-09-01 01:38:00

Probably because one of those auto reply refresher things. If a new reply pops up, you can't use spoilers until you refresh- that's a bug that can't be fixed unfortunately.2009-09-01 01:40:00

While it can be annoying, simply refreshing the page, a matter which can take from 1-5 seconds on most "current" computers, will solve the problem. I'm not really sure about your other issues, because I haven't really had any problems with quick edit or advanced edit. What browser are you using?2009-09-01 01:41:00

All of the features you described utilize something called YUI (http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/), which, in lamens terms, is a set of tools coded in javascript which allow us to do very cool things dynamically on the page, including the smooth sliding animation of the spoiler. For some reason your browser isn't loading these scripts, which is usually attributed to users disabling scripts (the Firefox NoScript addon is a good example). You'll have to ensure there's nothing preventing scripts from loading on your end.2009-09-01 01:47:00

Alright CC I'll see what I can do.

And no, Rock and BSprague, it's not because of a new reply. this is constant regardless of that.

Edit: Ugh, I've restored all defaults in Firefox and it still isn't working. This is just weird. If anyone knows of a solution, let me know. Otherwise, I guess I might need to switch to IE or chrome.

Try uninstalling Firefox completely, including checking "remove user customizations" (I'm paraphrasing) when uninstalling. When it's complete, check to ensure the Mozilla Firefox folder in Program Files has been deleted. If it has, install a fresh copy of Firefox. If it hasn't, delete it, then install a fresh copy of Firefox.

That did it. Thanks so much for helping me out CC. Shame I had to lose everything though. 2009-09-01 02:27:00

I've had that happen to me once, and it wasn't fun. If you want to retain your bookmarks and passwords, may I recommend two addons to ease the pain in the future? Check out XMarks (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2410) and LastPass (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8542). XMarks syncs your bookmarks to a secure server in the cloud, meaning if you ever lose your data, all it takes is a quick install of XMarks and a sync and you'll have all of your bookmarks back. Plus, when it syncs them, they're encrypted using your password, so not even the XMarks staff knows what bookmarks you have - they'd have to have your password in order to find out. LastPass is cool too - LastPass remembers passwords just like Firefox, and it autofills username/password fields for you just like Firefox, but it also goes a step further. It can automatically fill out virtually any field for you, including name, credit card number, social security number, etc. Whatever you decide to give LastPass, it can autofill for you. It also automatically logs you into pages if you decide you want it to, and it generates secure passwords and saves them in its database incase you forget (I actually use it to generate long, complicated passwords for each of my important accounts, so if one gets hacked, the others won't). All of this data is encrypted with your master password, and it can only be accessed with your master password, so it's as safe as you make it. Plus, all of this data is synced with a secure server, so you can easily re-access it as long as you remember your master password.

I can't believe it... I just noticed this after formatting my computer to install a different OS. One of my biggest annoyances was losing all my bookmarks

Ah well. Great find, CC.

I heart XMarks.

I've been considering trying LastPass but I don't think I need it.
