I...already tried making a thread about Dissidia (By the way, the Dissidia goes before the Final Fantasy...) but no one posted... Since yours is up here, I think I'll just use yours, though.

I've got it and I love it. Don't wait until after LocoRoco! Play it now! The only reason I'm not playing right now is my PSP is charging and stuff.

Weird. I searched for dissidia threads but I found nothing. Bug perhaps? Anyways I watched the IGN video review and it looks fantastic...2009-08-31 21:34:00

Well, it's there. But don't worry, we'll just use yours.

Anyway, yeah, it's absolutely fantastic. When you do start playing it, I suggest you do everyone's story mode first, to get a feel for all the characters, and then see who you like the best.

The IGN review mentioned how the game was split into two parts. The first part was repetitive but the second was better where you choose one character. I guess I -must- play everyone's story? How long does it take to play through all the stories then?2009-09-01 12:02:00

You don't have to play everyone's story mode, but it helps to get a better picture of the story and to get some freebie items and summons.

Each story is divided into five chess boards with about 5 to 6 encounters each. Not all of them have a boss at the end and you can also avoid some enemies altogether (though they will usually be guarding chests and the like). It doesn't take that long to go through a story mode... maybe two hours depending on how much time you spend customizing and treasure hunting.

I wouldn't put much stock in the reviews, it's a game you either love or hate. Obviously it will get repetitive... that's what a fighting game is! But as long as the fights are epic it stays pretty fun.

You unlock a lot of extra content once you finish the story mode, so the game doesn't end as soon as you've beaten the final boss. There's a lot more to do after that.

What are you talking about??

To be blunt, your comment is the kind of thing that pops up regularly over there, along with various other pointless/unhelpful comments and threads.

I'm sure the TC and other members would prefer to keep this thread talking about the actual game instead of discussing things like how "overhyped" FF7 is, or how "manly" Jecht is, or other countless inanities.

So yeah, let's try to keep it on topic.

I understand that you want the conversation to be on topic but i find the way you went round that to be rather rude and uneccecary. Now i would prefer not to talk about this further to keep this thread clean but in the future please if you have something to say say it don't be obnoxious and rude about it.

*busts in before things get ugly*

SO, ANYWAY, who's everyone maining? I use Zidane and I have him up to like level 43. I seem to have hit a wall, however, where suddenly I can't win against the AI right off the bat...

Things won't get ugly.

I main Bartz (who I like to call Bartzgamesh, due to the lack of a playable Gilgamesh).

The A.I. tends to get progressively tougher in story mode. Bosses, rare pieces, and A.I.s with 1 HP tend to be the toughest.

I find that the tougher the A.I. is, the better it is to let him attack first and block/dodge to counter attack. Whenever I try to attack a tough A.I. first with anything other than a long-range attack, I'll usually just end up taking a beating.

My choice would be Cloud but just because of that I should choose someone else. I don't like any of the characters in 10 and I just clocked ff9 at 83 hours when I beat ozma. I think Maybe someone from FF6...Other than online battles are there other multiplayer sharing functions or something that we could use together?2009-09-01 20:23:00

I'm mostly just running quick battles to level up. A level-43 anybody is pretty hard.

Also, @BasketSnake: I'm telling you, don't pick a main based on who they are/what game they're from. Pick them based on their fighting style. Everyone in this game is insanely different and if you just decide "I'm gonna main Squall just cuz" you're gonna be sad unless he happens to have the style you work best with. Trust me, man. I never thought I'd be maining Zidane, but I am.

I'm finding Terra to have a very good mix of attacks, and I initially wasn't interested in playing that character. So yeah, it's good to try out everyone at least a couple of times to see how they play and whether or not you can use them well. I know that I'm terrible with Firion, and finishing his story chapter was the most hair-pulling experience I've had since playing Dirge of Cerberus. 2009-09-02 14:50:00

Dude, I hate Firion with a passion! It's impossible to hit ANYTHING with his HP attacks at low levels! I've been told that he gets a bit better as he levels up (obviously) but I just couldn't do it. Plus, since I've been maining Zidane for so long, everyone else seems sooo slooow!

Oh! Today's my special day! Powerleveling, here I come! (I gained two or three levels in my first fight today!)

If you think that's slow... you should try playing as Exdeath some time. I did, and I nearly cried. I know he's supposed to be a tree and everything... but why did he have to walk so slooooow. I think I would need Speed Boost++ just to get him to walk at normal speed.

You have to love Special Day. Combined with the "Grind Lovers" play plan, it really speeds up the leveling (I think I gained something like 5 levels in one battle once!). It's a good idea to buy all of the calendar upgrades in the PP shop just for that reason, and because you'll get more bonus icons in the calendar.

Though, I have heard that you can cheat by altering your PSP's date to be on your special day without consequence. I haven't done so myself, I like it better to let the calendar work normally.

Oh, Exdeath... He's not good for much besides the Exdeath leveling trick, is he?

I don't have any other play plans besides "Casual" "Average" and "Hardcore" at the mo', which makes me sad cos I know there's tons of other ones that I don't know how to get... And I bought all the calender bonuses on like day 3, cos I had tons of PP and I didn't know what to do with it.

Yeah, the special day cheat is actually pretty simple. I go to GameFAQs all the time, so I know all these little tricks. All you do is set your PSP's date to whatever your special day is, and then play normally. Then, when it's over, you set the date ahead a week and you get it all over again. Unless you can just change what day it is without changing the date (I think you can, but I might be wrong) then you just change the day.

Just keep going, Basket. It gets easier as you keep playing, trust me. Also, play the story modes based on the difficulty setting. They seem to be grouped that way.2009-09-02 18:26:00

I think on every screen you can press Start to get help topics on that particular screen. I've used that feature quite a few times, mostly to learn what all the equipment effects do. 2009-09-02 21:11:00

I didn't find the menus confusing at all, really. But, like Gilgamesh said, just his Start to bring up help about stuff. It's actually really useful.2009-09-02 21:42:00

Played through Cloud's story. I think the battles are really cool. Sometimes the screen is flooded by EX and numbers and HAX AND CRAX and god knows what so it's not easy to get a grip of what's going on. So I panic and button mash. But other than that I got the basics down. Still having some problems blocking and dodging properly. The equipment and those menus are so many that I'm going to have to use the "optimize" function for this game. I can't be bothered sorting out menus and equipment all the time. I'll do that in other FF's. So after I've played through all the separate storys I have to pick one of them to finish the rest of the game with right?2009-09-04 00:00:00

Well, it all depends on what you want to do afterwards. If you want more bonus items you can redo the story chapters (there's a % that shows you how many of the items you've picked up). If you simply want to finish the story, you can go ahead and jump into the final chapter, but I have to warn you that starting at the 3rd stage the enemies become much tougher. I had to quit on that stage and level up using Quick Battle before being able to proceed. I'm glad I did though, because the final boss is no pushover either. 2009-09-04 11:35:00

Hence, powerleveling on your special day. A level 94 Zidane eats through Shade Impulse... At least, Chapter 1.2009-09-04 16:04:00

I play with my friends on weekdays. It's about 5 of us... We play at lvl100 without equipment usually, since it tends to unbalance things. Gotta love those matches where you jump up, high-five at the awesomeness (regardless of losing), then have everyone around you stare as if you were crazy. Mmhm.

If anyone has XLink Kai to play online, do let me know.

Guys, I have to throw this out there.

I hate Onion Knight. I hate playing him, I hate fighting him, I hate his voice, etc.

Oh, and after maining Zidane since I got the game with Speed Boost++ I can't play anyone else, they're all SO SLOW! (Particularly Kefka, which made me sad)

I think Onion Knight is about as fast as Zidane though. Plus, he can turn into a ninja!
I think it's kind of funny when he wins as a ninja and balances a sword on his finger, with the second sword balanced on the tip of the first sword. He reminds me more of Sora from the Kingdom Hearts series than the Onion Knight from Final Fantasy III though, except when he's in EX mode.

Wait till you get to Inward Chaos and the Duel Colleseum.

I basically took a break due to all the frustration.

Here's some of my best clips against the harder fights.

Also, I almost NEVER get Ninja EX Mode. It's like 90% of the time I get Priest and it's lame.

You can change which EX form by Square and [] when in Ex mode. You also automtically change depending on which move you do.

Physically movs like Wind Shear and Rapid Hits turn you to Ninja.
Magic moves like Firaga and Blizzard turn you to Mage
