These are just some.... I have a bit more in my gallery.
So is there any chance that I could survive in the art business?

I'm only 14 now but I hope to improve my skills over the years

Those look great blizzard. I started out when I was your age with pictures like this and I ended up going to art college and getting a good job out of it. I see no reason why you can't do the same if that is what you really want, go for it.2009-08-31 13:18:00

What do you mean you could never do cartoons? That's the only things I can draw... -.-'
Or do you mean to make one?

I did try to do cartoons when I was younger, but for some reason, they always turned out weird.

I'm a graphic artist, so my work is more structured. I can do a good pencil drawing but cartoons and caricatures are just not my thang!

I've always admired artists that can string a cartoon together in about 5 minutes. Rolf Harris was a genius at doing that.

as said, I can only draw cartoonish. I would just really love to draw anime....

actually my biggest problems are human faces and hands. I just can't get them right

Thats because we are so used to looking at peoples faces the eye can pick up the smallest of oddities if something is misplaced. Keep practicing and you will improve.

The human form is very difficult and faces are the hardest.

There is actually a part of the brain called the fusiform, which is trained to do nothing other than recognise facial features, so any differences are easily spotted.

Did you know that if you turn a persons face upside down, you will have difficulty recognising them?

As Wex says, keep drawing!!

Faces are tough, but hands and feet are the single most difficult thing to draw on the human body. People spend years trying to figure it out and perfect it.

As for your skills, very impressive for someone your age. I started drawing when I was about half your age, so by that time I was a bit more advanced than you are at this point. I ended up going to a high school for the arts taking visual art, so believe me when I tell you that you have all the makings of a great artist.

Your sense of perspective is excellent for someone with no training. Many people simply can't grasp the concept of what perspective is and how to use it. This alone puts you ahead of the game. I'd say you're a natural.

I'm not really sure what's available on the current curriculum, but Resistant materials might do you some favours - oh and English! Sounds Boring but it will help in the art world. Also IT, because a lot of art is done on workstations now.2009-08-31 13:52:00

Workstations?? What are those?

It's a fancy word for computer.

Workstations are generally computers set up to do one or several tasks dedicated to a specific field, unlike a general PC which is designed for everyday use.

In animation for example, we have different workstations set up all over the studio. Some for animating, some for compositing, some for editing, etc.

I think it would have been better to say you should familiarize yourself with different art or media related programs such as Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, Rhino, etc. If you plan on using computers where art is concerned, buy a Mac... there is no substitute.

Great drawings though.

I'll tell you some facts if you want to be in art business.

I myself's long term goal is to work as a Level designer in Level-5. It's gonna be tough, but I don't think it's impossible.

Same as for what you're doing right now, Your starting to like and start drawing. It's a good thing

I like that cartoon style of yours too. Very whacky.. But if you want to be a cartoon artist, you better get used to drawing more than 1 character more than 20,000 times ..

And you have to start at learning how to draw a model in 360 views, X and Y axis. It's really really really gonna help! (My cousin works for the anime Gundam, and his room is filled with drawings! LOL)

I think you definitely have the skills to be an artist. You're better than I was at that age, that's for sure. ^_^ I write comic books and am a graphic designer, and I draw every free moment i have.

I went to college as an illustration major, and they make you take courses like "life drawing" where you have to draw people in various poses. Things like this are very helpful! It also helps to learn how to draw buildings and perspective. Sadly, I never learned that sort of thing and cannot draw any sort of buildings, cars, etc.

anyway, You've definitely got the talent to go far! ^_^ Keep up the good work!

I haven't commented on the other threads on your work in the Art and Cre forum, so I'll just register my appreciation here. The cartoon of the crawling robot that looks a bit like exploding Eddy from Futurama struck me as absolutely fantastic.

I myself have no artistic talent whatsoever, however I can certainly appreciate a talent like yours.

Hey Blizzard, I didn't even know till now that you're only 14. Definitely off to a good start I'd say. The only way to improve is to keep at it. Keep pushing yourself to draw new things, in new ways and keep an open mind.

I'm just finished highschool, and going into art college to do Model Making and special effects. That means I'll be designing sets and models for film and the likes. That includes working with real materials and 3D rendering etc. I really picked this course because it sounded a lot more fun compared to Industrial Design which is designing products..... hoovers and chairs for example >_>

If you're interested, you should join http://www.polykarbonbbs.com/
Its a pretty small community for artists of any skill any age, and imo its just as warm a community as LBPC. People will be willing to give you critique and tips, and theres lots of sketch exchanges and other stuff going on.
I'm Billov on PK incase you were wondering.

I really, really can't. I just suck at all drawing things. I can't even do good bubble writing. The best thing I ever drew was this bald eagle. That was over five years ago. Just to put that into perspective, I am 15 now. I have somehow got progressively worse over the years, although I have recently doodled a cute little raindrop holding a lollipop, saying "I have a wowwipop"

My mum liked it...

Keep up the good work Blizzard and you could do very well.

I know I'll be drawing a lot from now on cause my school starts in 2 days. I get in my best at school! The best stuff is drawn there...

I like the feeling that people admire my drawings in class . I know it's selfish but I really like that

Definitely will check that site out and thank all of you again!

Hey, those are really nice!
I'm also dreaming about becoming some sort of artist, and of course you could survive in the art business. I think you just need a lot of dedication.
Also i believe it is good to get used to the digital media, it's probably a lot harder surviving as an artist if you only do traditional work. So try to get the adobe suite and start to learn some of the programs.
You could begin with making signatures i photoshop to learn the basics, but then if you want to create your own images in photoshop i think you should borrow/buy a wacom tablet so you can start to get more serious.

BTW: I didn't know there were so many here working with art. =D
