The LBP community should make it's own story levels.

Archive: 25 posts

Many players are wanting new levels from MM but how about some of the best and brightest creators from the community get together and make our own story mode levels.

It would be a series of connected levels with similar gameplay and story. So instead of having our own individual levels that are all drastically different we would have a group of levels that are consistent. We would thoroughly test them to get rid of glitches, parts that are too hard, or places players might get stuck. We should look at how MM designed their story levels for inspiration.

As for the story itself I was thinking that it could be focused on a highly sought after artifact, kinda like the Holy Grail, and follow it through time as it is passed from one group to the next. That way the story could transverse many different periods, cultures, and places. It could be in Egypt for one level, Rome the next, be aboard a ship that is attacked by pirates the next, and underwater in the wreckage after that.

We could ask MM to help promote it. Maybe update the news section to mention it. I'm sure they are tired of people pestering them for new levels so this will be a welcome distraction.

What do you think?

But the people of this community are making "story" levels.

I can think of at least 2 groups that are working on many-leveled project right now.

It's probably because collaborating with more than two or three people is incredibly difficult. It's hard to keep the changes everyone makes up-to-date for everyone, it's hard to make sure more than one person isn't accidentally working on the same thing, and it's very hard to work on a project for more than a month without getting fatigued. The fact that the community is not earning money to make levels makes it very difficult to be passionate about something of that scale for the amount of time it requires to see it to completion.

Still, I would love to see some community-collaborated duo or trio sets of levels. I'm surprised we haven't seen those already, actually. Nearly no one has had the motivation to do it yet, I guess.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean by this but I've seen one collaboration by Blahyourhamster, ARD94, Bakscratch, and WillPalro. It was pretty well done, something about Outer Space Chickens . I would like to see more of these collaborations though, maybe when Online Create comes out .2009-08-31 04:05:00

I'm working on some "story levels", and I know quite a few other people making some too.

Here's mine (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=13213).

The LBPC series is doing a set of levels based on LBPC, it looks awesome, you should check out the pics if you haven't already.

I'm part of the other group cophermc was thinking of, we're working on a 12 level story called "The Long and Winding Road". The problem with these story levels is that everyone has to be on the same page, and even if you have people working on levels left and right, they don't all just magically finish by themselves

Well it's good to see some people have already started on some group projects.

Any word on when they will be done?

For LBPC: The Game (The theme of which is kinda just LBPC), I'm taking a "whenever it's done" standpoint. I've never been good at determining time needed for things.

I don't know about that other project.

So instead of having our own individual levels that are all drastically different

Are you saying this is a bad thing? This has to be the single most fantastic aspect of LBP.

But as everyone has said, some people are already doing this / have already done this and the biggest issue is the effort involved.

Thanks, but honestly it could have been a lot better. The titles ate up the thermo pretty fast.
Not to mention my flamethrower chicken.

Not to mention my flamethrower chicken.

Glad to hear that someone appreciates the collabs. Currently, I've been very busy. After attack of the evil alien chickens from Outer Space, I've been in Heavy development of a huge collab, which I'm sure is what your looking for.

It's a six part collab, with a story, it's called Mission Demolition. Im so excited about it. Im the project manager, which is dubbed "Team Demolition". 3 trailers were released. we have famous and talanted creators. we even have a coverage of all 6 parts in LittleBigPodcast's Episode 32! Do NOT miss Mission Demolition NEXT Friday.

11th of Septemer 2009 9:30PM UK time. /roughly 3:30PM US time.

People in the collab;
Part 1;Bakscratch
Part 2;Madpercussion
Part 3;Liquid_Pancake
Part 4;WillPalro
Part 5;Coolcop98
Part 6 *BONUS*;lilbezza

Sorry if this all seemed like a big level promotion, But I hope and think this is what you're looking for. And after this im in Bakscratch's Alan Wake project, and then Mission Demolition 2, in December!

While Im promoting. >.< XP
Big HUGE thanks to KenBarlow51 for helping me write the story and parts for MD 1.

Between, Media Molecule already said they would like to bring up "level linking" in some futur update. This means WE WILL be able to make our own "story modes".

Hey Will, don't think I abandoned your project, I'm just writing out the music, almost done, then after I'll put it in the game. I'm actually composing something original. I hope it fits.2009-09-08 08:31:00

One of the project members, not to name any names, (COOLCOP98!!!) Is being very nit-picky and finding ways to delay the project. first of, he's blaming another member (MadPercussion), then he says he NEEDS the missile used in the trailer for the project., since EVERYTHING must be the same. he wants to publish on SUNDAY. >.> Im kinda getting upset with him, coz he should be finished by now. his part is the shortest, yet he's managed to spend the most time on it. In fact, my level was made in 2 days (and no, it doesn't show....I hope...) *sigh* well, we'll see what happens.2009-09-10 06:52:00
