Bo-Bomb Logic Help

Archive: 17 posts

Okay, if anyone can help me, I will be very greatful. In my Mario level, I managed to make a working Bo-Bomb out of an Impact explosive. Problem is, I had to use 3 logic gates! 3!!! And just for one Bo-Bomb! To get it to work, I had to use a Permanant Switch, a 5-Way AND Gate, and something else. I don't know what the "something else" is called, but it consists of a motor bolt, a magnetic key, 6 magnetic key switches, dark matter, and some wood. Here, take a look at the logic (http://i25.tinypic.com/2woapeq.jpg) for yourself. I need help to reduce the amount of logic. If I can't, then my Bo-Bombs will remain a real thermo-killer. Can somebody PLEASE help???2009-08-29 17:39:00

i just looked at the picture, are those emitters on that circle thing on the right? if so then thats whats killing your thermo. What exactly does the bomb ob do that it needs so much logic?2009-08-29 18:49:00

When you get close enough to it, it follows you, and activates the permanent switch, which starts a timer. At certain points, the timer activates the emmiter, activating the 5-way AND switch, which activates a buzzer. The buzzer indicates that you don't have much time to get away before it explodes.2009-08-29 19:02:00

i don't see why it would need that much logic for the functions you just described.... just make a simple time logic. i can make it for you if you send me the bo-bomb and all the logic, so i know what i have to impliment 2009-08-29 19:07:00

why dont you use a brain for it to follow you, put a sensor switch on the bomb and set it to the same radius as the brain. the sensor activates a permanant switch which activates a piston on directional, a mag key is attached to the piston and then theres a switch attached to a line of dakmatter underneath thats hooked to the sound, a bit further on the dm theres another switch thats attached to the bomb.2009-08-29 19:07:00

Wait, it's not even using a brain? that's an obvious huge waste of thermo. Could you possibly post some pictures of the bo-bomb?2009-08-29 19:09:00

Umm, I use emmiters because pistons don't always work for me, but emmiters do. No matter what anyone tells me, I will not remove the emitters. And, it does use a brain. How else would it follow you? But, I'll post a pic anyways.2009-08-29 19:11:00

did you remember to make the pistons stiff? cause if they're not stiff, they don't always work 2009-08-29 19:12:00

Yes, I do make them siff when I use them.
Also, here's the Bo-Bomb pic.

right, anyway making a bo-bomb sounds like it could be fun so im trying my hand at it right now im thinking i might make it flash red once the buzzer activates.2009-08-29 19:35:00

Hmm, just checked something. For some reason, the thermo went up a lot when I placed the Bo-Bomb and the logic the first time, but when I added more, I couldn't see any change. So, that's it. Problem solved. I think.2009-08-29 19:35:00

If you're unwilling to use pistons, then there's not much point to asking for help. Clearly it's the way to go, and is the best possible way to do it.

If you need help knowing how to make it work with a single piston, then keep reading... If not, then good luck.

The PERM switch is the dissolve, which when triggered, makes the piston move to the right. Each of the little key switches along the way can be wired to a buzzer noise. When the piston gets to the end, have it trigger the bomb. Boom, simple logic, low thermo.

Edit: And I think they are "bob-ombs," not "bo-bombs." Just a heads up if you put the name in your level.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm going to us pistons more often, as well as motor bolts, since they require less tweaking. Can someone please lock this now?2009-08-29 19:59:00

I finished making my bobomb, and it's got a lot of cool functions. When it's activated it starts following you and the fuse starts glowing yellow, and gets weaker the closer it is to exploding. after 5 secs the bobomb starts flashing red, 5 seconds later it blows up. If you get almost right next to it, it will also blow up.
The timed explosion, and the proximity explosion is ofcourse adjustable

Gimme a shout if you want it, incase you run into any problems with you're own
