just played the level. Took a while to beat man that was a long level. Great variation throughout the level. Had some puzzles, platforming, a boss. Everything you could want in a level. The part i had the most trouble with was the dark area where you used the light block to find you way ( very cool ). The boss was one of my favorite bosses i've faced. It was gigantic and very fun to beat. The only thing i wasn't as impressed with your level was the decorating. You're lucky enough my friend! My level still hasn't reach 100 plays and has 6 hearts... Anyway... Let's speak about the level... I think I know this level quite well, since I played from his very first steps... I saw it getting better and better with the time. I'm really pleased about how much it got better. It's not visual astounding, but has a good varied gameplay. Unfortunately I got stucked at the skeleton guardkeeper, since the ball sponge got stucked and I couldn' hit his brain on the head. Have a look at it. I'll replay the level when you have tweaked it. Here is my review of your level... Cons: The lighting in some areas was to dark. For example, after your first roller obstacles; it was so dark, I couldn't tell that I had to jump to swing. Also, the boss is incredibly bouncy. A little to bouncy. It was only by sheer luck that I finally -after fifteen minutes of trying- killed the brain in the mouth. Okay, lately i have edited the level a lot, now it should look more appealing (visually at least) , and i republished the level from zero. (well, i wanted to get better feedback) I got a lot of (crappy) feedback from the LBP community, but still small from the LBPC one, give me yours! This is a very nice level with varied difficulty. This level could be waaaaay better than it is right now. I hope my feedback will give you what you need to make this a top tier level. I'll start off with what needs to be fixed. Cons: Man!! And you say my bridge was hard!? That fast one is too fast. Its hard to time when to release and if you do it right you still have a high chance of dying because you dont know if you're going to catch sponge or fire. I died like 9-10 times here. Also the candle gets in the way alot. The areas at the top are too dark. I couldnt see myself unless I went to the front layer. The skeleton enemies are too tall. You have to jump on thier shoulders with out getting 'spiked' and then jump on thier heads. Also to be a well of undead, there werent that many in there. Add more please.You need to add a camera angle to the second cart. I could'nt see it at first and when I did, it disappeared. cons continued: This is so players don't die from a disappearing kart. Now the boss fight I think were some cheap kills. i think you should block off the fire when you first jump down because u cant see it and its an 90% kill I think. The boss REALY needs a camera angle bcuz u cant see him at all or when his attacks are coming which is very unfair. Also you should take out the gas in his mouth. It was already hard enough just trying to aim for the bubble in his mouth. Also his attacks continue after its defeated. Pros: The level made u feel like you really were in a well. Also the difficulty is high, which what I prefer in levels. You feel like you have accomplished something when you finish them. The moving/jumping tunnels was brilliant. I had alot of fun going through that area. The jetpack puzzle area was very fun, too. It felt like it came out of Zelda: A Link to The Past where u had to goto different rooms and unlock each one just to get a key to the boss room. suggestions: I know you added some decorations to the level but it still needs more effects. I could show you some tricks I learned if you want . Also red gas looks more horrifying (and better to see than black gas. Your next level also needs some layer management. Look at some of TOBsn08's level and you'll see what I mean. Overall I gave your level 3*, a tricky tag and a heart. I love hard levels. Like I said thier more rewarding to me. I think if you decorate it enough and fix the boss it could be a solid 4* level! Also if you fix the boss I will surely revisit to ace the level. I would also like to work with you one day on a level in the future (would say now but I have 3 levels in the works now so im busy). I think we have skills that compliment each other. Anyways good stuff for only your second level! Sorry for the 3 posts. Thank you very much! Your feedback is very appreciated. And i'm really happy you liked my level. - The Gas is Black because it's meant to represent Darkness. (I may introduce Red Gas in the future to represent Blood) Also i know the enemies are a bit hard to kill, but that's because i recently remodeled them, before they were really easy to kill. And they are difficult only because of the darkness, since i can assure you they are easy to kill on Day levels (i tested it). There aren't many of them because... well... you will discover it in the sequel! - Uh, i don't know, maybe your TV is abit small? Because i can clearly see the second kart popping. The lifetime isn't infinite, but it's pretty long so it should be pretty hard to have it disappear while you are crossing the fire pits. - Well, if you see the video of the level, you can see the level has been edited a LOT! It's very different from it's original incarnation. I have added lotsa of decorations, so i don't know what you mean, maybe you need to show me. - The Boss continues his attacks even after dead because i've not added logic to them. I will do it soon, because i forget about it everytime when i want to do it. - The level is not meant to be aced, because it would be really hard. In fact the level is made in a way that you will die sometime, even if you are very careful. That's why there is no reward for aceing it (there is one if you gather all the prize bubbles though), i don't promote insanity. If you don't know, the level is inspired by the Bottom of the Well dungeon from Zelda: Ocarina of Time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oripxSRdjOQ If only i could use the same music... I'm currently working on the sequel, and i'm pretty satisfied from the results, however, it will not be published soon since i still need to buy the MGS and PoTC pack, and i think i will publish it only when it's COMPLETELY FIXED and BUILTED, because as you can see, i published this (my first real level) with real haste, and at the beginning it was very buggy and crappy compared to now. Hi Flame Dragon, just returning you my 2 cents. I'm writing feedback while I'm playing so it is following the level progression - I disliked the start of the level, to the left you can see 'the void', so the illusion of the world you built is broken BEFORE I can see it. - Why you inserted a glitched grabbable over the well? There are points on the other side, so it's a joke (you can easily jump to the other side), but I would have preferred something more similar to a bucket, stickered polystirene? - I jumped straight to the second wheel, and for the 4th you would have to do something; I cannot distinguish where to grab and where not, like a faith leap... - For the 'bouncing' section, you would have to reconsider the shapes because there is a lot of thermo waste; the same I can say for the carved huge green light, you can light all that area without actually having that huge led, and in some parts I found not very clear why I died (invisible gas?) - The magic blocks won't be magic at all if you do not glue the led BEHIND them... - The light do not last enough, and I cannot carry the cube down the right path because of a little angle of the floor, so I continued 'blindfolded'... - After that the level is really dark, maybe you would add some lighting or decrease the general darkness - I would have expected some zombies instead I found provided skeletons (!?) + I liked the behaviour of the boss, but I found it too easy compared to the unforgiveness (??) of the level Overall, there is some work yet to do, from the general thermo waste to the visual care of the level, including a little bit of decorations and stickers. 3 stars. | 2010-01-17 20:54:00 Author: Miglioshin Posts: 336 |
Hi Flame Dragon, Here is some return feedback for your level. The level was challenging, but fun. I enjoyed playing it, but i think these tweaks could make it better: When you are pulling the switches to get to the skeleton key, it would be more polished to have a notification of success. For example, add a sound effect to engage when the switch is pulled. Also, add a magic mouth with a camera angle that will activate when the switch is pullled, and place the mouth on the door or whatever it is that the switch activates. I found myself wondering what exactly I did when I activated the various switches, and this would help. I did not catch what the boss says. He immediately starts bouncing around, and I did not get a chance to read the dialogue. It would nice if there was a timer before he starts moving so that you get a chance to read it. Also, I would add a camera angle so you can see the entire boss. You can't really see what's going on when you're down on the ground. Reducing the frequency of movement of the boss is also recommended - too bouncy. Last, I'd change a few things to make it more aesthetic. I know it's a well and all, but I'd make things more irregular and less blocky. Some decorations of torn fabric here and there would also be a nice touch. And, varying materials from the stone a bit, with other materials that you might expect in a well, would make it more visually interesting.
