Ramp deleted: Celebrate or Grieve?

I noticed that ramp by eigthwonder_ is gone from littlebigplanet this morning.
After all the people hating on it I don't know to be happy or sad.
Maybe it got moderated by some people. (If you ever read the comments they are brutal)

On one hand a pathetic levels getting above 2,000,000 plays is gone. :hero:

On the other hand the funny littlebig-phenomenon that even had jokes coming from media molecule themselves is gone. And No more jokes now.

For the sake of starting a conspiracy theory; I wonder if Mm deleted it so that people playing the demo or buying the Goty edition would avoid being put off when seeing that as the highest played level.

I think i am not really happy. But i think about the guy that do it, just to create a level, and that "accidentally" acumulate an incredible amout of hate against him... Just because its level was boring for some and unfairly highly played. Somewhere, i say poor guy....2009-08-29 16:45:00

Have to agree with Matt, Takelow and Coxy (I have no mind of my own Coxy, it does'nt work as well as it used to). It was very well known, I think most people who own LBP will have heard about it and played it. I feel a little sad its gone, something we all loved to hate has gone forever.....

It was when Cool Levels was totally broken. It never refreshed back in the old days, if you got on Cool Levels you stayed there, no 7 day time limit. The level was on page one then, and everyone saw it and played it, as bad as it was. Since then, its become very well known, and then people played it just to see what the fuss was about, hence the 2 million or so plays it gathered.		2009-08-29 17:42:00

Honestly, I'm surprised this happened.

Not because he/she chose to get rid of ramp, but because their way of getting rid of it was by deleting its "slot", if all reports are to be believed.

Not the tangent we were actually discussing, but yes, Ramp is gone - at least based on what everyone is saying, I haven't actually checked - there's no reason to be skeptical about it though.

Ramp being gone does make me wonder though, will it remain the "icon" of "junk levels", or will it being deleted allow for a new "icon" to come forth to be the flagbearer for levels of the sort?

I'm assuming "Ramp" will still be the icon, but it's at least something to think about.

Anyone play any really pure "junk" levels they think are noteworthy? I remember the first real "junk" level I played was "tar stairs". Out of curiosity, I recently checked back in on that creator, and found they had another level that had spikes with spikes on them.		2009-08-29 18:43:00

I feel bad for Eight Wonder. 1st off, Ramp was his first level ever. He didn't try to get it on Cool Levels, it just got there. Some people don't understand that Ramp jokes aren't making fun of Eight Wonder, but making fun of how broken the Cool Levels system is. There are way too many crap levels on Cool Levels today, and IMO some of them are a lot worse than Ramp.

It wasn't really that bad! It wasn't a heart for heart! The reason people hated it?

They were jealous.

Jealous that a "not so good" level could get more plays and hearts than all their levels combined. It was made in the beta, so I don't really think that it is that bad for things made in the beta!

Anyways, I'm happy and sad. Sad because like Michal Jackson's death (wait... HE DIED?!?!?!?! HAX) there is going to be theroys and speculations and Ramp tribute levels... AND NO MORE RAMP JOKES!

But happy since people won't rave about it and everyone who played it will be disappointed that they didn't.

My theory? MM deleted it so they could put it in the levels EXCLUSIVELY for the GOTY Edition!

But still... It feels weird that RAMP was gone... RAMP? The most controversial and played level? Sometimes I would look at the comments and just laugh how angry they were because they didn't get that many hearts.

People will also be unhappy it is gone because like slaves in the civil war, the only reason poor people from the south were fighting is because they still had someone to make fun of, and someone lower... the slaves.

Anyway, expect the slew of Ramp Tribute levels.

But just a question for everyone... What will be the new Ramp? Is it irreplaceable? Or is there a level sorta like it that is played a ton and has a ton of hearts?		2009-08-29 20:13:00

To be fair, I think part of the popularity is that the rocket was NOT attached. It made things more variable.

To illustrate, watch the video earlier in the thread. The rocket "latches itself" onto the board, spins off like crazy, and then actually ends up "re-latching" itself onto the complete other side of the board.

Just from a physics standpoint, that's very entertaining. It's like the idea of bullets hitting each other in mid air.

I think it is quite sad, it was amazing for it's time and I think it shows how much the LBP Community levels have evolved.

Well, that should be a lessons.
A good joke is good only if it doesn't last forever.

Maybe this one has lasted too long...seriously, not to be the black sheep, but maybe in some way the feelings of this man got hurt hard.

Maybe he just gave up, like many people who are good at creating gave up since they don't get too many hearts/plays or get hassled by russelmuscles.
The line on this subject is really thin, anyway people shouldn't hurt other people feelings with such easyness.

Think about it. Levels were stuck on top forever. No way out. D:

Until they mixed that up in February, Cool Pages never changed.

Ramp was the symbol of such a system that was so horrible, you wonder how it possibly could have been green lighted.

This is really sad. Back then, I actually thought it was cool. Rockets and skateboards? Awesome! But now these days, the community has advanced so far that it forgets it roots. Ramp was a piece of LBP History! There's still no level out there that has surpassed it's +2,000,000 plays marker! And, knowing the community, there's never going to be one that ever accomplishes that. The funny thing about this too is that even though it was heavily criticized and hated, people still played it. I just published a quite accurate level to remember ramp with. All the usual ramp features are there.

Search for '@S-A-S--G-U-N-R' or 'RAMP (Re-make, read desciption )'

EDIT: So far it has 0 hearts, 1 play and 1:star:.

Like people in the civil war thinking guns were the ultimate killing weapon, we thought that Ramp was cool with skateboards, lots of bubbles... But now like guns to nucular bombs, we have AMAZING levels.... To be honest, I feel bad for the guy. People should just be happy for him; The first level whether good or bad to get over 2 million plays, is a true accomplishment. Instead he got mindless hate. This guy wasnt russell( insert variable here) who actually tried to get his level out there and constantly trashed other levels, it just happened. And yes it is a poor level, but so are those mindless jump challenges and boring bomb levels. Most people who hate ramp are jealous of a beta level, a guy who fooled around in create. The thing is, when something we don't like goes, we realise how much we actually depended on it! *cough*Woolworths*cough*. But when Ramp came out and people saw how much hate it was getting, they were like "Woah! This level is getting hate comments! I better make a decent level!!!"

The "system" you're referring to is on MM's server side, so reverting to 1.00 wouldn't change the system in place now. There's no way to "go back" to the old system.

More likely, you'd have problems connecting to the servers, as you'd be using an outdated version.

I'm in the grieving camp, I even referenced it in two levels, lol. Yes, it was laughably shoddy but it's an ICON!! For me it just stood for all that initial excitement when we first got the game and it was pleasure enough just to roll down a hill on a skateboard. And i NEVER made it to the scoreboard in that level, that gap was always just too big. (laugh)

I think i am not really happy. But i think about the guy that do it, just to create a level, and that "accidentally" acumulate an incredible amout of hate against him... Just because its level was boring for some and unfairly highly played. Somewhere, i say poor guy....

Besides, he was a pioneer! One of the first crappy levels on Cool Levels. Now, just about every level on Cool Levels is trying to be Ramp.

Wow... I remember when i use to play this level with my friends, i thought the design was stupid but something kept making me go back this was also one of the first lbp levels i have ever played Sad that one my oldest pictures with an old pal of mine that i dont play with anymore is now gone... Ok, brief overview of the level:

You start the level and see skateboards stacked on each other and one big skateboard with a rocket on it. (not glued together, very important)

You jump on the big skateboard, pull the switch and off ya go!! Weeeheehee, aren't we having fun?
Now the skateboard loses it rocket, all the wheels break and you are left in the middle of the level with a plank.

The rest we do on foot it seems, let's explore the dark caves of spongeblocks or the tomb of many, many bubbles!!

Ok ramp was maybe not the best level ever but it was like a icon to LBP lol. I think the other level with 2 million plays is the World's fastest Sackboy.2009-08-31 12:16:00

As strange as this seems, I do feel saddened by this news.

The problem was never about "Ramp" or its creator. The fact that it got an inordinate amount of plays and hearts was simply a result of the bad Cool Levels design that was in place at the time. The system basically rewarded whoever made a half-arsed level and got it out first instead of people who worked longer to make a quality level. To make matters worse, the actual quality levels that made it up there with Ramp eventually got moderated, while Ramp remained there untouched.

In essence, I think "Ramp" came to symbolize what was wrong with the system, so making fun of the level's many flaws was kind of a way to poke fun at the unfairness of the Cool Levels system.

For those who, for some reason, feel like playing it... I think it's best left to your imagination. The real thing is not that special.		2009-08-31 14:13:00

i had made a ramp 2 a long time ago
it was pretty funny check it out if you want a good laugh

it even has a boss fight, to win the plans for ramp.

side note: also it was made when the metal gear pack came out and the system was flooded with VR levels whichone section pays tribute to that too.		2009-08-31 16:23:00
