This is a forum, right?

Archive: 15 posts

No offense to the staff here. I just couldn't find another thread title.
Anyway, I really like this forum. It has a great community, great aspects and great potential. It seems though that you guys are focusing more on the "LBP" part of the forum.

First of all, we need more sections. The General Chat sections seems to me more as a "Say anything here! Spam if ya want!", and no really forward discussions on things.
How about a "Movies & Media" section?(Talk about Movies, music, series)
A Litterateur section? Talk about books.
A Forum assistance section is needed. I see a lot of people asking normal forum questions. Not EVERYTHING is written in the FAQs ya know. You'd be surprised <_<
A Departure thread or section for people who're about to leave for days, weeks or months. It's always nice to know when someone is about to disappear.
And finally, a Staff section. A place where staff post their profiles. It's always nice to know more about the people that direct us.

This is all basic forum stuff.
Of course, I'm not saying you SHOULD do this. Maybe you guys have other plans, or are just too busy. Suggestions will always remain suggestions.

Edit: Wow <_< Turned out longer than I thought it'd be xD

This is a LBP dedicated forum, we talk lbp planet here and theirs the chatroom if you want to have discussions with members and the general for other things. The "media" "literature" "food" sections are around in other forums, but really if you want to go to a LBP site, why must their be a section dedicated to what kinds of food you eat

The dedication of this site is why I kinda sticked with LBPC, while other fansites had other sections, lbp remained decicated for this to remain an LBP forum; even though we experienced 0 activity since their was nothing to talk about

-IMO of course

Of course. The forum is dedicated to the game, so our focus has to be improving the LBP aspects first.

First of all, we need more sections. The General Chat sections seems to me more as a "Say anything here! Spam if ya want!", and no really forward discussions on things.
The General Chat is really just an "everything else" forum. Like I said, the LBP-related forum content is stuff we have to focus on first, before anything else.

How about a "Movies & Media" section?(Talk about Movies, music, series)
A Litterateur section? Talk about books.
I'm not against either of those ideas, but it all depends on how often they'd be used. I don't want this forum to be bigger(screen-size) for anything that isn't necessary. If enough people like these ideas, I'll add a forum for them.

A Forum assistance section is needed. I see a lot of people asking normal forum questions. Not EVERYTHING is written in the FAQs ya know. You'd be surprised <_<
We have the "suggestions" forum, which works well for both suggestions and just general complaints. I am actually going to turn that into a "feedback" forum to encompass what you mentioned.

A Departure thread or section for people who're about to leave for days, weeks or months. It's always nice to know when someone is about to disappear.
The general chat is perfect for that. I don't think enough people are leaving every day that we need a whole new section devoted to it.

And finally, a Staff section. A place where staff post their profiles. It's always nice to know more about the people that direct us.
How do you suggest this should be implemented? How would this be useful to the average user? I need to know your view on this before I can comment.

We used to actualy have a link called "Site Staff"... I think lbp took it down when he made you mod, for some reason.

And it's a very good opinion. I've seen this reason several times on other forums.
Some people come to a specific game based forum, would just want to talk about said game, and totally ignore the rest of the forum.
You hardly see any "big" forums that are dedicated to what they were based on, and I admire the dedication of lbpcentral. If most people want it to stay the way it is, then let it.
Also, why'd you choose food as an example? lol. Who'd make a section about food?

Of course. The forum is dedicated to the game, so our focus has to be improving the LBP aspects first.

And of course, that's a thing a liked about this forum. I'm not asking it to become bpcentral.com. (Don't ask <_<), just a tad bigger.

The General Chat is really just an "everything else" forum. Like I said, the LBP-related forum content is stuff we have to focus on first, before anything else.

Yes, but the thing is, the General Chat is too messed up IMO. People talk about too many things. What if one person wanted to check out specific threads, but couldn't find any, because people were talking about just anything, not what that section was directed at.
In a General Chat, you never find things like in specific sections.(Obviously)

I'm not against either of those ideas, but it all depends on how often they'd be used. I don't want this forum to be bigger(screen-size) for anything that isn't necessary. If enough people like these ideas, I'll add a forum for them.

Naturally. I always hated sections which were inactive. Found them totally useless. As long as there's something to talk about, then there's nothing to worry about. It all depends on the mass.

We have the "suggestions" forum, which works well for both suggestions and just general complaints. I am actually going to turn that into a "feedback" forum to encompass what you mentioned.

Hahaha, I see you changed the name and description of that section. I was just going to suggest that. 2 moves ahead of me I see.

The general chat is perfect for that. I don't think enough people are leaving every day that we need a whole new section devoted to it.

Till that day comes I guess.

How do you suggest this should be implemented? How would this be useful to the average user? I need to know your view on this before I can comment.

Ok, a Staff Profile section should always remain viewable by the average user, but he can't post there. A Staff, posts, basicly, his/her profile. Name, Age (if said staff wants to reveal it), History in this site, his Hobbies, personality, specialties.
How would it help the average user? Well, from what I've seen (And said a while ago), a person always likes to know who is his superior. He wants to know about him/her.

Again, it's all about you guys.

I'll keep your suggestions in mind, definitely. The only worry I have is "When is it too much?" I mean, we've got an arcade, a user rating system, and even another site dedicated to creating and sharing. I don't think more stuff is necessarily a good idea right now.2008-09-13 21:04:00

This is just me, but I hate a forum with a ton of sections. Everything gets too compartmentalized. Just let the forum be as it is - I think it's perfect right now.2008-09-13 21:11:00

Well, since it's like that. Can a mod close this thread?
It's not that I'm discouraged lol, it's that you guys have a point.

If one day this forum becomes huge, and this is not done, then I'll bring it up again. :3
It really doesn't matter, as long as I did a slight change.
But in any case, keep these in mind. You never know.

Cheers~

I do think the general section is crazy, I think adding subtopics is a good idea, books, movies and so on can lead to good thoughts for LBP levels. Usually general is for anything you want to talk about. But still the forum works well how it is, but still I see what he is saying.2008-09-14 01:35:00

I come to LBP Central to talk about LBP. I use Firstshowing.net to talk about movies and thepulse or brokenfrontier to talk about comics. I'm a fan of tailored forums so long may LBP central be a LBP-focused arena!2008-09-14 10:41:00

This hits the nail on the head.

Let's not get ridiculous now, the sections are available are already leaning on the heavy side.
To add even more sections within sections?
No thank you.

If you want a "movie" thread (an example), then make a thread dedicated to movies; I don't see the point in making a whole section dedicated to that.

I can't be bothered to go into specifics at the moment... -__-

Whoever mentioned the GT forums:
I shun at you.
