Is this a new glitch? Invisible 'thin layer' object.

Archive: 10 posts

Hi all,

I wanted to ask if this glitch I've come across is new or if it's already been discovered.

When I was busy in create mode earlier I noticed a small patch of haze in the sky, like when something is paused after being selected, so I dragged a square around it and found that it is an invisible thin layer object. This isn't the same as using dark matter to make an invisible wall or floor, this object sits on whatever thin layer you place it and is completely invisible, cannot be stickered etc, and cannot be passed through. It allows you to prevent sackboy from moving between layers without obscuring the view of him, for example by using a thin layer of another material such as wood or glass. I have since found it to be quite handy and used it in my level to stop the player moving forward into the 1st layer and jumping out of a vehicle.

It can be resized and it still remains invisible and retains all of its properties, the only difficulty is that it can only be a square shape - you cannot cut shapes out of it or place it half over itself to create new shapes.

Is this glitched object common knowledge or have I found something new?

I've done that before (no idea how) and saved it as an object but I deleted it because I thought I knew how to do it. Now I need it but don't know how I did it . Think you can give it out as an object in one of your levels so I can get it?2009-08-28 03:30:00

It sounds like piston matter.2009-08-28 03:36:00

I did come across Sackdragon's thread about Piston Matter, but there's a screenshot in there that shows him standing in mid-air, so I think that piston matter is in the 'thick layer'.2009-08-28 10:50:00

Yeah, it happens to me once. I don't now how ithappens tough.
I didn't save it because in a general manner, i don't like to use glitches in my levels.

You can resize it and change layers with it, can you change it's thickness? It sounds like invisible dark matter that you made on accident. The invisible dark matter I have acts the same way, you can resize it and even add to it and it will still stay invisible. Changing the material will make it visible again though.2009-08-28 12:11:00

Nope, its thickness can't be changed. You also can't add to it. Your invisible dark matter sounds much more useful though I can only think of a few instances where this glitched object would come in useful: Preventing the player from jumping forward out of a tunnel in the 2nd or 3rd layers into the one in front, or from jumping off a hill/mountain in the 2nd or 3rd layers down into the first, for example.

I just went on the Piston Matter level and this definitely isn't the same. It shares a lot of characteristics with Piston Matter, but it is on the thin layer.

Edit: After some more testing, it appears that it exists on a thin layer in the middle of the thick layer, and cannot be brought onto the front-most thin layer. If I create a square of this object on the 2nd thin layer, and then put a platform on the same 2nd thin layer below it, it will fall behind it. If the same platform is positioned on the 2nd THICK layer, then the object rests on top.

Edit 2: I've made a demonstration level that gives a piece of the glitch away. HERE (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=p=274730#post274730)'s an Object Showcase thread about it.

I thought piston matter was on the thin layer, well, what I found isn't piston matter then...but it came from a piston.2009-08-28 21:42:00
