A final boss

Archive: 4 posts

I want to create a final boss. The one I have now, is a rotating electrified metal plate with a skull on it and a brain on each side (it is hexagonal). The problem is: If you touch a brain, you die. If you touch the boss, you die. Making it a chore to kill the boss, since all you do is touch and die until it is dead. How do i make a good final boss?2009-08-27 07:49:00

Well, a good boss should obviously have challenge to it, but shouldnt be ridiculous. A good boss also has variety in its attacks, and typically will be able to hit every single area of the playing field, but the player will be able to dodge the attacks (in other words, it should be aceable). Asking how to make a good boss is a bit like asking how to make a good level: its rather vague and theres not much you can do besides give general tips. Be more specific, and we can too 2009-08-27 08:16:00

SLS10 has made a level with boss brains (logic). You should check it out. As for your design, touching/death to kill a boss isn't great. Maybe change it so that the skulls stop, giving you time to hit the brains without dying.2009-08-27 09:42:00

Do you have the paintinator? that could open a whole new world of possibilities... a good strategy is paintinator evolution, you blow up a body part and he gets harder, revealing another weakspot, and so on. Creature brains can also be great if you use certain strategies. The first boss in the collector for instance has creature brain platforms that rotate to reveal another creature brain that is now exposed. Or maybe the boss is with thE environment itself, like a guy lobbing explosives or rolling flaming rocks at you. Look at other bosses for ideas, try out different techniques, and be creative 2009-08-28 05:21:00
