Syncronisation?

Archive: 5 posts

One person posted a lot of feedback on my level (very grateful but can't remember his/her name) and suggested that I raise the sync on the snow to make it seem more natural. I tried this and nothing changed. My question is, what does the sync do?2009-08-26 23:01:00

Sync lets you set slight time delays on things like pistons and emitters, so if you've got a bunch of pistons doing the same thing, synching the pistons will add a little time delay to each one (set by you) to make a wave-type pattern, for example.

Is your snow coming from emitters? If it is, alter the sync on a few of the emitters, and you'll notice that even though the snow is coming out at the same frequency, the timing is offset so your snow will look a bit more random and 'natural'.

Hope this helps

Oh, I see. I'll change my snow to be different emitters, at the moment it is just the one.
Thanks, I have been wondering what that does since LBP was out.

To make it even more random, you could have a piston (or several) with emitters attached to them moving back and forth emitting snow to make it look more random. To make it different every time, add in a proximity sensor encompassing that entire scene and set to speed, then attach that to some of the pistons.

I did this with rising lights on peach floaty once and I just put them randomly over a rectangular area and captured them and then used one emitter. I just played your level and this would work for you with the lights you're using, just spread them out a bit and tweak the speed and veloctiy.2009-08-27 02:17:00
