Custom Sticker Removal locks up PS3

Archive: 27 posts

ok - Just had this happen tonight and wondering if anyone else has seen it or can help trouble shoot this.

I was working on the 5th of my Chroma Stone levels tonight and encountered a problem with custom stickers. I have a custom sticker (photo) of the disco material shot with lower lighting so it's darker than usual that I've been using to put a little depth onto some areas and make the metal a nice hematite shiny color/texture. It's been working fine for about five days now until tonight. I went in and noticed upon arrival in the level the sticker wasn't showing up. Materials were there but the sticker had become invisible for lack of a better term. Ok - I thought - I'll just use the sticker selector tool to see if it's still there or just a display problem. As soon as I clicked where the sticker was/is instant PS3 lockup. Not just the game the whole thing. Could't press the PS button to quit - had to shut down on the front of the machine.

Ok - tried it again to make sure it wasn't a fluke and sure enough - instant lock up again. Strange but I did find a thread with sort of the same thing from back in May here.

https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=11328

That was in play mode though and not create mode so I'm not sure if it's the same bug or not.

So my next solution was to delete the objects that had been stickered with the bad/corrupted sticker. Went just fine (sucks because I have to rebuild a bunch now as all my backups still have the sticker on them except a very old one)

So I continue to work and begin the chore of replacing the materials from the areas I had to delete. This is where it gets even stranger. I had a object with four pistons on it and had to redo the base the pistons were attached to. So I make a new block of metal and reattach the pre-existing pistons back to the new block. The timing on them is all weird now so I figure ok - I have to redo the pistons. I redo them and they work just fine. Rather than build it again I capture the object - place it in the second area it appears and un pause to see if it's aligned right. The pistons on the original are fine but the captured and placed object's pistons go wacko. Two break outright and the remaining two begin to twist then shatter.

So the questions I have are this.....

The first bug/corruption is a pain and now I'm loosing faith in custom stickers - is this common out there? Anyone else see this in create mode? If so have you had any long term problems with a level you cleansed of these corrupted stickers or have they been ok? (I'd like to avoid a complete rebuild if I can here)

And secondly - since all the other pistons seem to work ok but this new copied one is this the dreaded 160 hour bug (I really don't think It's been running that long although it is a duplicate of a previous level I've modified) rearing it's ugly head or am I dealing with another known issue I haven't heard of. If it is the 160 bug - can I salvage parts of the level without this nasty thing following me?

Any and all info/suggestions would be welcomed and if I've missed a thread with this issue (I did look) please point me in the right direction.

Thanks as always

I never had that problem with the stickers locking up my ps3. But, one time when i made an object and put stickers on it, and put a wrong custom sticker and tried to remove it. When i tried to remove it, the object breaks and falls apart because i removed a sticker. It was wierd. sorry i couldnt help.2009-08-26 09:06:00

I've had something similar happen with 2 of my levels. although it is when I select a certain object and try to delete it it freezes. I can delete anything else in the level but certain things just freeze the game. My robot in "next level pack" and a cetain piece of machinery in "GBS3". I didn't really find a solution to this Im afraid. I just had to work around it.2009-08-26 09:14:00

Not sure about your sticker problem, but it does sound like you may have the 160 hour bug. You could always try pasting your captured object into a new level and see if it works, if it does then I'm afraid you have the bug.

The only way around it is to capture your whole level (Not copy) and paste it into a new slot on your moon. If that's not really an option, you can send your save game data to MM and they'll reset the timer for you, but I've no idea how long it takes.

That's unfortunate. Sorry to hear about your troubles, Morgana. I can't really offer up any new help/advice, but I'm sad to hear about your predicament.

Edit: Actually, I do have some advice [maybe]. Did you move the copied object in pause mode or play mode? I only ask because I've noticed when moving objects under laggy conditions, moving it in pause mode is the only way to ensure everything remains unchanged.

Back to morgana, I've had that problem before, but the sticker I tried to remove was on my sackboy :O

Yep. One day I opened my costume and a very noticeable sticker that was needed just wasn't there. I opened my sticker editor tool and tried to delete if something was there, and then the whole thing froze up.

It probably has to do with the stickers going corrupt >

Oh! Wait...If a sticker goes corrupt on sackboys and objects, isn't there some rule mm added so when an object has so many stickers, the previouse stickers delete? What if someone were to add lots and lots of stickers onto the same object? Would the corrupt sticker just delete again and another freeze occured? Or something more? :O

^ interesting idea! I'm not sure how many stickers it would take, but it sounds good on paper.2009-08-26 15:57:00

It takes a lot of stickers, but you can just spam one spot with small ones and it wouldn't take too long, taking the off would be annoying, but not so much as rebuilding most likely.

And yes, it's a very interesting idea.

That is brilliant! Ok - I'll try that tonight and see if it makes a difference.

I moved the copied object in pause mode, then unpaused to check the fit. I think I'll try capturing parts of the level and putting it on a new level to see if the pistons still behave wacky.

Thanks for the support and suggestions. I'll report back to let you know how this works or if it's still behaving badly.

I'm not sure if this is related, but Aer0blue found that pistons, bolts, etc can go rather wacky when he was working on the Boss Rush 3 compilation- he found a solution by waiting a second before placing captured objects (as apparently that gave the game more time to load the bosses and keep all thier pistons working).

Never had things dissapear on me, can't help you there i'm afraid =/

wierd, weird, stuff going on these days... I have a giant custom stickered glass slime wave @ the bottom of Help wanted that became unselectable/undeletable... like the pipes on that snail-robot? I dream and dream they would one disappear and free up some thermo-room. Have no idea how I did it... Feel for ya kiddo! Creating is not easy. Creating in LBP...definitely NOT easy. Don't wanna sound negative here... but I think you're gonna have to work around it... some interesting thoughts and ideas though about bringing saved items back from the pop-it... I was stupefied the first time I saved these little 'BEE' springs to pop the player in the air... I wanted to flip some around, (so i did so), blam fall apart! Weird, weird world.

Good Luck!

D: i know what you mean... today i was collecting 8 bit nintendo characters ( i like 8 bit stuff ) it took a while, had to beat some long levels, ace some, collect all the gifts, the whole sha-bang. And sure enough, my profile was "too large" so it couldnt save. I went to my storage level where i keep all my stuff, and just when i was about too put in my first object, i noticed that one of the walls colors had completely disappeared. so when i tryed to put it back on, FREEEEEEZZZEEEEEE. i waited, and waited... but nope, now i have to get everything all over again... Now, i am a Sad Panda D:2009-08-26 21:12:00

It takes a lot of stickers

You'll get a warning message appear on your 99th sticker or 54th decoration, then the old ones start disappearing. 54th decoration might be inaccurate though, I got a tad bored of counting tbh, probably saw something shiny as well

ok - after considering how many areas would be affected I chose to delete the stuff with the stickers on it. Great suggestion to add until they disappeared and if I had more of them in there I think that would have been my best course of action. As it was I was able to redo the bad stuff in about an hour so not as bad as I had feared.

The pistons when copied are still acting strangely. I've taken all the parts of the level I had before and captured them, then placed them in a new blank level. I'm hoping this will help with the wacky piston issue I had earlier. So far all the new stuff I've put in seems to be working fine but that one item when copied still contorts and breaks. I shall have to build it again I think.

On a related note - I lost five costumes and four objects today to the red exclamation mark error and also all the photos in my pod. It's been a roller coaster kind of day in LBP for me.

If more stickers begin to corrupt I'll report back. Thanks again everyone.

No problem

Have you tried to just, compltely recreate from scratch your piston stuff? Just this time, make it where you want it

Also, have you tried it in pause mode, as in copying your parts? That always works for me....

And how long have you been working on your level? If it's over 140 hours (Or something) things really go crazy...

I've been rebuilding in place, in pause mode. The inital level I doubt I had over 140 hours in but the weird thing is even on the new blank level, the pistons from the original object work just fine, but if I duplicate it or capture it and place the copied object the pistons twist and snap. I'll just have to work around it for now.2009-08-27 16:56:00

This happened once... With a grass sticker on disolve, and the game froze up when I wanted to remove it.... to make it stickered metal to fit the new theme.
It worked fine ever since it froze.

Of topic, this also happens to meh in Battlefield 1943... A LOT.

The game freezes a ton, but it mostly happens with stickers.

Here's a thought on placing and removing massive amounts of stickers:

- Start by using your corner editor to extend part of your object out (it should be longer than the size of sticker you place.

- place your massive amount of stickers on the end of the new area

- To remove them, just delete your new corner, so that your new stickers are no longer considered part of your object.

I've used this for temporary marker stickers, although, not massive amounts. When you re-expand, the stickers are gone.

It also works well for placing a sticker that you only want an edge, but the center doesn't fall onto your object.

I've noticed this happening with custom items too.

One day while building the Treehouse level with my cousin, we noticed that a certain gear, if selected, would freeze the entire game.

The ONLY thing that worked to get rid of it was to attach it to a winch and pull it to a safe location. Then we sealed it away in a box of dark matter, never to be opened again. We call it the cursed object.

couldnt you crush that gear with a big block of something heavy?

Haha, I haven't tried that but it's a good idea!

I'm actually really looking forward to water being released, so that I can seal it in something heavy and sink it to the bottom of the ocean. I feel that would be more satisfying

If crushing it freezes the game then you could make a H4H trap called 'H4Hers come in here!' and put a giant button that drops a heavy material onto it. Then have a sticker switch on a small piece of material at the start that drops a scoreboard so you can make another account and get loads of plays on it so it becomes popular, lol.

Haha that would indeed be awesome.

I've only noticed the freezing in create mode, but I'm curious now whether it also happens in play mode!

I keep hearing about the 160 hours bug...

I don't believe this exist. I might be side-stepping the topic but there's no rational explanation for that bug and softare devellopement = 100% rational.

AGING for long could cause stuff but I'm sure you don't mean 160 hours in a row... When you start the game and load your level, the game cannot make the difference of having 10 or 200 hours of work, they only load a save state and parameters. It's the same after 10 or 200 hours.

Also, in the game there's no time parameters. As far as the player can tell, the game is not keeping track of the time you spent in create mode and even if it does, it's just another variable written in the save, nothing that could blow up a save more than anything else.

What probably happen is that when you have a level you've been working on for a long time, it probably is complex so the chances of having errors when you save might become greater. Also, the longer you mess around with the game open in create mode, the more chances you have to encounter bugs and especially aging bugs.

Let's face it, this game is so busted in matter of bugs that I am pretty sure it simply can't age for very long before blowing up.
