You would be able to Dig through a certain material. Part of a Dig Dug pack ? Again Controlled where you dig with the right stick and hold R1 or tap depending on how deep you want to go.

It's a good idea for a character enhancement, but I don't see many uses for it outside of Dig Dug, Motherload, and Lemmings, which are all basically the same thing anyway. I'm sure it would lead to many interesting puzzles though.
