Workin' for the Psycho Granny (Pictures and Video!!) Complex level - loads of detail BabyDoll1970 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9YFc--gTPI In the first part of this level you get test your skills as a 'personal shopper' for the elderly by collecting the groceries on Granny's list and transporting them by very crappy trolley. Things don't go smoothly, however, and so thus follows a dangerous path of obstacles as you try to escape the psycho granny's wrath (and exploding veggies). It may sound kind of dumb, but don't knock it til you've tried it! Lots of fun to be had! This was my 4th level and the one where i was experimenting with colour coded switches. I hope you like it. The thermo is full, but small tweaking is possible and feedback is welcome for this and future improvements. Thanks for looking : ) I'm aiming for 5-10 F4F to start with. This is my first posted F4F... is there anything else I need to say? all http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/5666/medium/1_Psycho_Granny_screenshot_task_50_.jpg http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/5666/medium/1_Psycho_Granny_screenshot_bird_50_.jpg http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/5666/medium/1_Psycho_Granny_screenshot_3_50_.jpg | 2009-08-26 03:15:00 Author: BabyDoll1970 Posts: 1567 |

Incredibly helpful! Thanks so much for taking the time to explain to a novice : ) Much appreciated. No problem! This is the only forum i've ever been on, so I too got a little confused when I joined. Next time i'm on LBP i'll play this. It looks like the kind of level i'd enjoy. | 2009-08-27 17:51:00 Author: Leather-Monkey Posts: 2266 |
I really like this level! I only found a couple small hiccups; http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg the talking spiders tend to hit you with their comments right when you are tossing the first banana into the trolley unless you run around before the race and clear them. It might be better if they did their thing before the race starts. Maybe one is crawling up granny's leg? http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg my first time through, the trolley got flipped over by the first wall as it went up. I really enjoyed myself playing this level! The humor was great, and the process of dumping things in the cart was a lot of fun. Also, the character crafting is superb! The sticker-work is exelent! I gave it 5 stars and 2 hearts (A&L), I didn't tag it, because I lost patience trying to find "Fun" | 2009-08-30 12:45:00 Author: swanbrown Posts: 898 |
Hiya! Thanks so much - and scrap that last question in my PM! It took me a few minutes to figure out to look here. Been a long day... Okay - good. Yes, will do something about the (Rasta)spider as I do agree. I think the crap trolley warning is okay where it is, isn't it? You're in and moving by that stage. That first box is a loose cannon in some regards. Sometimes it triggers early, sometimes really late - as in your case - and can tip that stupid trolley. You're my first feedback on this! I think the name puts people off. You wanna some feedback? On? | 2009-08-30 13:01:00 Author: BabyDoll1970 Posts: 1567 |
Oh, I forgot about this. I'm afraid I can't give much feedback, as I didn't complete the level. I'm not sure if I messed up or the level did. I collected all the fruit, took the trolley down to the end and nothing happened... The fruit could do with being a bit smaller. The troller kept getting trapped under the shelves. What I did see was great! I love it when the granny walks past! So maybe a few more magic mouths around the place telling the player exactly what to do would be good. | 2009-08-30 13:10:00 Author: Leather-Monkey Posts: 2266 |
You wanna some feedback? On? Not exactly. I have a tool called Gradient Studio Utility (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=14333), That I'm getting ready to Re-publish and run up the cool pages. Once it reaches the top, I plan to make it copyable for massive distribution. (muaaaa hahaha!) I'd like you to try it out, then let me know on the thread weather or not you'd be willing to help "star-up" for the run. | 2009-08-30 19:33:00 Author: swanbrown Posts: 898 |

Thanks, Leather Monkey, but I have to ask - did you try and put everything in the trolley at once? Did you start with the cutscene (triggered when you climb on the boxes near her legs) where it shows Granny and her shopping list and she issues her demands? Maybe you continued straight over the boxes to the right instead of climbing up. Anyway - perhaps try it again with just the few items she asks for because they will trigger the next round of cut scenes and orders and you go from there (after which she gets "psycho"...). | 2009-08-30 22:38:00 Author: BabyDoll1970 Posts: 1567 |

Hey there swanbrown : ) I've moved those speech bubbles around a little, as you suggested. They're still during the race time but I've also bumped out the minutes to 7, so that should help. I added a new one to stop people from heading over to the right and missing the cutscene which has the instructions (which Leather Monkey demonstrated). So thanks to you both. | 2009-09-02 01:14:00 Author: BabyDoll1970 Posts: 1567 |
I've finally gotten around to playing this level, and I really liked it a lot. The visuals were great, the character design was very well done, and the colors popped out from my screen. My only suggestion is to do something about the first objective with the shopping cart. I had to restart 4 times before it worked properly, and to be honest, I don't know what I was doing wrong. I put the proper fruits in the basket and wheeled it over to the side and it didn't work until my 4th try. Other than that, great job! | 2009-09-08 22:47:00 Author: ApellesJr Posts: 282 |
Definitely a well created level, everything looked great. Unfortunately, the gameplay wasn't as user friendly as the design was. I really loved the different renditions of the granny, all were very well done. I wish I had half the character design ability you do. The fruit all looked very good, nice choices in materials. As has been mentioned, it's difficult to complete the level. The food items don't always fit into the cart well, and can get caught on the fruit and shelves above if you don't stack it just right. It's also easy to drop the avocado or cabbage, since the front of the cart has dissolved at that point. It's confusing where you're supposed to place the fruit at the end, since you can't see into the box. It's mostly just knowing where the items should be, and trying to fit them all in. There's also no necessity to start the race at the beginning of the level, as it's easily bypassed using a seagull. I just triggered it right before moving on in the level, and got the highscore . Good level though, fixing just a few of those gameplay problems I mentioned would be nice, but it might require a major rework of parts of the level - which at this point in it's publication is unlikely. No F4F for me, thanks for a fun level! | 2009-09-09 01:01:00 Author: Shredator Posts: 151 |
Hi ApellesJr and Shredator! Thanks so much for playing. I thought my level was sinking into the marshlands of Showcase obscurity! I had to restart 4 times before it worked properly, and to be honest, I don't know what I was doing wrong. I put the proper fruits in the basket and wheeled it over to the side and it didn't work until my 4th try. I assume you mean those boxes that lift up so you can pass? The first is triggered by a key on one of the bananas and sometimes that banana may be too far back. I have tweaked the control to a wider radius so it should trigger without any problem - worked 100% on testing today. But of course, you never know. I find when the thermo is maxed out all sorts of things start going haywire : ( [see * below] As has been mentioned, it's difficult to complete the level. I just triggered it right before moving on in the level, and got the highscore Okay... The only time the trolley won't fit under the shelves is if you've tried to put ALL the items in at once (not just the strawberries and bananas as indicated) or by some mishap the bananas are hanging out over the top - or you take off too quickly and the trolley does a wheelie and gets caught - but that can usually be remedied by backing up. To help with that, I've placed a dissolvable talking spider on a proximity switch between the avocado and lettuce to stop people from taking them- hopefully. Yes, the avocado and lettuce can topple out but they are easily pushed along the ground with the trolley - and I've put another talking spider down there to explain that should they fall on the ground. As for the box, I've moved the lettering and cut holes in the sides so it should be more visible once you're inside. The fruit and veg just have to be in proximity really in order to unblock the exit to the next part of the level. I have also put sounds to indicate when each item is in the correct position. The timer... I thought about this and decided to leave it in as it helps give the impression that you're working to a deadline - which goes with the story. I have lowered the seagull's height to stop people being able to get over that wall and trigger the highscore early. However, once that wall has dissolved you can still access the cash register and all the goodies there by climbing over the oranges. Hmmm... I'll sort that out somehow. I'm having some internet connection issues with our PS3 so I haven't published those updates. When I do, I'll send you guys a PM and if you wouldn't mind having another go at some stage, i'd be really grateful. No detailed feedback would be necessary - maybe just an "OK" or "still needs work"? Cheers! | 2009-09-10 03:10:00 Author: BabyDoll1970 Posts: 1567 |
I played it through the other day and it's funny. I couldn't finish it as the avacado was on the floor which toppled the cart and I managed to break a strawberry..... I'm a horrible shopper. lol Cute level though. | 2009-09-10 21:04:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
OKay, considering how many people lost items out of the trolley, I have chucked the dissolve material and put the opening end on a sprung bolt - which I should have done from the start, obviously. Therefore NO-ONE should have problems with things falling out of the trolley anymore. So if anyone who couldn't finish wanted to try it again, it's now ready. | 2009-09-14 05:58:00 Author: BabyDoll1970 Posts: 1567 |
Hi again! Well, this was a really fun level. I laughed quite a bit. Great character work. She really is psycho. I did have to restart (like 3 times), but the warning helped prepare me so I wasn't annoyed. Actually, the cart only got stuck under the shelf when the cabbage and avocado didn't go down all the way. One restart was when I dropped a strawberry to the left of the cart. I did have a little trouble getting stuck between the cart and the box where you dump all the groceries. Perhaps it could be a bit bigger. Once I really paid attention to what I was to do, I didn't really have any trouble, other than the above mentioned getting stuck. Oh, and calling it a trolley seems funny to us Americans. We call it a shopping cart, but that doesn't matter. We just think of a trolley as one of those quaint conveyances one takes while in downtown San Francisco. Anyway, great level. | 2009-10-06 22:39:00 Author: thanatos989 Posts: 248 |
Wow, that granny sure does look crazy. I'll play it as soon as I turn on my ps3. | 2009-10-07 00:13:00 Author: manny_wtk Posts: 127 |
first of all: what a great idea. the characters were fabulous... the whole concept is real fun. but it's pretty hard to play it. sometimes i lost some food, sometimes the trolley got stuck... i think the shapes are great, but they also cause some problems. anyway, the second part of the level worked well. in my opinion it was a great level. greetings anna | 2009-10-07 23:16:00 Author: SantaAnna Posts: 51 |

Put together a proper video for this level (BabyDoll, I'm not dissing your video), it makes me laugh every time I play it (the level that is). Warning, spoilers in the video for those who want to play it themselves! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9YFc--gTPI | 2009-10-15 06:27:00 Author: ScoutsBoo Posts: 63 |
The avocado falls because people are approaching it from the left. if you want it to always work as intended, make it impossible to platform one's way to the avocado without the right hand bird. An R1 sticker on the birds would also help. | 2009-12-07 14:32:00 Author: coyote_blue Posts: 422 |
