Giant Enemy Spider
Archive: 46 posts
There were screams earlier today in the Mm offices, as a giant (presumed enemy) spider scuttled its way across the entrance hall. It was <em>really</em> big. At first, Martin claimed it was 6 inches long (which it wasn?t), but it was still pretty big, like. Anyway, we took some photos of it as it <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">feared for its life underneath a sofa</span> prepared to turn us all in to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IbyWxEq-0c" target="_blank">Human Slaves in an Insect Nation</a> (the spiders are not insects, but in a war they will side with the insects). Ahem. Sackboy even came and said hello. He didn?t seem too phased by its hairy legs and the cluster of eyes on its forehead. It's probably that big wooly hat keeping his head a bit <em>too</em> warm. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mediamolecule/3856560649/" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.mediamolecule.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7639_blog.jpg" alt="Giant Enemy Spider" title="Giant Enemy Spider" width="600" height="450" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1865" /></a><br/> <span id="more-1864"></span> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mediamolecule/3857356958/" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.mediamolecule.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7643_blog.jpg" alt="Giant Enemy Spider" title="Giant Enemy Spider" width="600" height="450" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1866" /></a><br/> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mediamolecule/3857384224/" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.mediamolecule.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7653_blog.jpg" alt="Giant Enemy Spider" title="Giant Enemy Spider" width="600" height="450" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1867" /></a><br/> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mediamolecule/3857368586/" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.mediamolecule.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7650_blog.jpg" alt="Sackboy with the Giant Enemy Spider" title="Sackboy with the Giant Enemy Spider" width="600" height="450" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1868" /></a> ------------------------- "Giant Enemy Spider" is an automatically posted news item which was grabbed from MediaMolecule.com (www.mediamolecule.com). Wow the first three pictures make it seem huge, then when compared to Sacky over here, it's not so big (though I wouldn't want something like that in my house, we never get spiders that big here.) | 2009-08-25 23:05:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |

What confuses me is that this was posted at 11pm (UK time). So... why was someone in at 11pm and posting in the Mm blog (and on Twitter)? How very perplexing. | 2009-08-25 23:25:00 Author: alexbull_uk Posts: 1287 |

My arachnaphobia is kicking in after seeing that (feet up in chair, skin crawler, looking around in case something like that could be here) | 2009-08-26 03:26:00 Author: Unknown User |
Ughh... I tried to put the pictures in spoilers, but it doesn't do any good for the pictures in the front page... What the heckk.... Sorry, you'll either just have to type www.lbpcentral.com/forums to skip the home page, or just wait until another useless post comes on by, which will be sooner then later knowing MM. | 2009-08-26 03:27:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
My arachnaphobia is kicking in after seeing that (feet up in chair, skin crawler, looking around in case something like that could be here) Same here, with the feet up! Get them OFF THE FLOOR FOR GOD'S SAKE!! WHAT WAS THAT??? ...oh it was just my hair. OH GOD!!! sorry, that one was nothing, just the cables under the desk. I used to live in South Texas where a trip into the garage meant facing down a small army of GIGANTIC TARANTULAS. Doing the laundry was a frightening affair to say the least. "Alright. time to put my shoes on." "why?" "Doing the laundry." "ooooh... hey, you be careful, man." "... i will. Thanks. For everything." "yeah. sure, don't worry about it. Hey. Good luck out there." "yeah... I'll need it. It was good to know you." "hey, don't talk like that." "no, no. It's cool. I'm ready for whatever happens. I just want you to know. it really was good to know you." *scoops up pile of dirty laundry and struggles to open door into garage while holding giant clothes-heap* | 2009-08-26 03:49:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

Spiders really don't bother me anymore, they're far, far too common around where I've lived most of my life to be scary. I can't remember the last time I didn't remove a spider from the bathtub before showering . It's interesting the fear they evoke in us though, although nearly all of them are completely harmless. Very few species of spider are even capable of biting, and are just as dangerous as ladybugs and caterpillars. Even knowing that, it took me a long time before I could pick them up and toss them out the window without getting a chill in my spine. Not small, but not in the itsy-bitsy category either. Then again, there are much worse out there (there are spiders capable of killing dogs and cats without using venom). Fun fun. | 2009-08-26 04:34:00 Author: Shredator Posts: 151 |
I felt something crawling on me when I got in my car. Would have been an awesome coincidence if it was a spider. Sadly, it was only a beetle. | 2009-08-26 05:17:00 Author: BassDeluxe Posts: 984 |
To Teebonesy . . . Reminds me of how I feel when going into spider infested places. The basement here where I live is old and not fixed up, and that's where the washer and dryer is. It's the jumping ones that really get me freaked more than I already am because I always think they're going to jump on me, and the larger ones, and the ones that move super fast. To Shredator . . . After reading your bathtub comment, all I have to say is that I am glad I don't live there. I would of fainted by now. It's funny how I scream when I see a spider and literally react as though it were a human in my home trying to kill me and I have to defend my life. And people hear the scream saying it sounded like someone died when it was "only a spider" as they put it. Yeah, only a spider until you get bit by a Brown Recluse or Black Widow or any other spider that has been known to kill a human or make them sick. | 2009-08-26 05:25:00 Author: Unknown User |

The picture of the spider next to the sackboy doesn't make it look very big, although still, I'd be quite scared if I saw it in my house. Also, this thread reminds me when we had a spider around that size that "lived" in my home for nearly a year and you could see it right near the TV pretty much every night at around 8PM. We even gave it a name, which was a very unoriginal one. We called it Dave. | 2009-08-26 12:40:00 Author: lk9988 Posts: 1077 |
It's disgusting. Imagine how it crawled through the toilet sewer system from that toilet shop on their second floor haha. They should name it Eddie. I don't know why I think of that name but ...it looks like an Eddie. | 2009-08-26 16:20:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |

Yeah, only a spider until you get bit by a Brown Recluse or Black Widow or any other spider that has been known to kill a human or make them sick. We actually have lots and lots of Black Widows around here, definitely wise to keep your distance with those. I've been finding 6-12 of them a year since I was a kid, and they still spook me out. Even after killing them you can almost feel things crawling up your legs, as though there were another just using the first as the distraction. I found two of them just before leaving for college. You wouldn't think it when they're chilling on their webs, but black widows can move extremely quickly. I stepped outside and scared a grasshopper, which hopped into the web of one there was a black widow winding it up within a second of it touching the web... about an inch from my bare foot. The other I found was actually the biggest widow I've ever found, so I caught it and put it on the piano... | 2009-08-26 22:45:00 Author: Shredator Posts: 151 |
I remember a camp I went to as a kid that had lake spiders, almost like the ones you see in Super Mario 64, but not blue and cartoony. They could run on water, and dropping a cinder block on them really didn't do much. They were about a foot long from leg tip to opposite leg tip, and I was absolutely terrified of them. I don't have arachniphobia, but those things are nothing to mess around with. Oh and that Sackboy is very cool. | 2009-08-26 23:32:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
