So who else here is a lefty?

Archive: 36 posts

Scientists would have us believe that a greater percentage of south paws tend to be creative and artistic than found in right handed folk. Something to do with our brain wiring. Anyway if this were true then I'd imagine there are quite a few of us on this site.

Feel free to post here as well if you're righthanded. . . or if you want to mythbust or debunk this then I want to hear your thoughts. I was a bad boy anyway and didn't look up the specifics of these lefty studies before starting this thread anyway.

I was ambidextrous (using both hands) when I was very young but then I decided to keep writing with my left hand. If I was to throw/ kick a ball then I would use my right. I play guitar right handed. I use my left hand to turn pages in a book and prefer to read from back to front in a magazine or something.

EDIT: I've just figured it out, for things that require more use of my whole arm I use my right hand.

Also, apparently right handed people are better at sports.

heard that many times before, i'm left handed as well.
(not completly, can't work with a mouse with my lefthand for example,
can't also write on a board with my left hand...)
I've done art school for many years and was kind of shocked how many left handed people they were, i've been doing music for many years as well, lots of left handed people there as well... their might be some truth in the fact that left handed people are somehow more creative. Now that i think of it, every left handed people i know has a creative job...

The different wiring in my brain considers that as a compliment!

I'm kinda ambidextrous. I draw and write with my left hand, but for most other things I use my right hand, and for a few things I can use my right or left hand.2009-08-25 12:50:00

Ambidextrous is pretty rare, it means you can write with you left AND right hand, or have no preference at all. Not, do stuff with your left hand and other stuff with your right hand
(i think everybody does that...)

I'm left handed. Or at least I THINK I am, because I always forget which hand is left or right.... which pretty much means I MUST be left handed.2009-08-25 13:13:00

Yeah I've heard this before from friends who went to art school. In my original post I didn't want to imply that we are more creative so much as more of us are creative. Both of my brothers are artists with jobs in the art field and they're both right handed. I myself have an art degree and have yet to land a job in the field.

Ok then, no worries bud. It was just with the specific line you quoted me on, and then your comment. . . lead me to infer incorrectly. 2009-08-25 20:35:00

I'm a left hander.

I use my Left hand to write, and I use my right hand to write in Japanese and do sports.

But yeah, if you're a lefty, ambidextrous will be a common gift =)

I'm kinda stuck between being left handed and ambidextrous actually, although for stronger certain things I will only use my left hand there are also a lot of things I can use both hands for. Although I can only write with my left hands but things like opening a door or a bottle I can do with either my left or right.
Hmm...interesting theory there though I have a massive imagination and since I'm not artist I more of delve into stories creativity and a lot of my LBP levels are kinda based off some stories I write for fun. There's just no end to my imagination.

I'm left-eyed, if that counts.

Give me a telescope or a viewfinder, I stick my left eye into it. Makes it a bit uncomfortable when I have to use video and film cameras, because I'm right-handed and pretty much need to use my right eye.

Woe is me! Woe!

I'm surprised so many people here on the forum are ambidextrous, everyone here where I live has led me to believe that I was special.

I've picked up a couple tricks, I've trained myself to be able to write two lines at once, with a pencil in each hand. The only tricky parts are knowing exactly what you are going to write, and gauging how many words will fit on a line. It's only really useful for copying stuff over, because I can never get the number of words on a line write, I usually end up having to scrunch in the last couple letters of each line. I can also do it with drawing, it's great with "speed level designing", though I do occasionally have the same problems that I do with two-handed writing, and I'll overlap things.

I'm such a lefty that even my mother couldn't take my right hand to make me walk when I was very young. I simply would not move until she took my left hand!

Not only i'm left handed and I'm also generally a lefty in my views and opinions.

Let's see here...

I write and draw only with my left hand.
I use scissors with my left hand, I could use my right but it would be uncomfortable.
I throw with either hand, but left hand is more comfortable.
I use the mouse with my right hand, using left hand is impossibly hard to do.
I am stronger in my left arm.
From left to right, the position of the consoles on my desk are: Xbox360, PS3, Wii.
My computer is on the right of my desk.
I can sketch, but I suck at drawing.
I have two old SD TVs, left one is for 360 and Wii, the right one is for PS3.
I hold the Wiimote controllers like normal people.
I hold utensils like forks, spoons, and knives with my left hand, right hand is impossible.
I can hold bottles and cups with both hands.
The sentence below is false.
The sentence above is true.
The sentence below is false is true.
I read books from left to right.
I think manga is very strange to learn to read. Seriously, I could never get it.
Both of the speakers are on the left side of the monitor.
Num Lock was off.
I have two monitors: One is CRT, with good resolution; the other is LCD, with terrible resolution.
My father is left handed as well.
He works as a graphics artist.
There are too many awesome games coming out.

I'm a righty. My left hand sucks at almost everything. Is that why I suck at art so badly? Who knows.

I tend to like everything that can tap into my creative side, even if I suck at it. LittleBigPlanet, art, and music come to mind.

lol I thought you meant politically for a second but meh, in terms of hands, both really. Holding and pushing things - left. Writing and slapping people and shooting things - right. I'm left footed though...2009-08-29 15:10:00

left handed for writing, forks, chopsticks, anything that requires dexterity.
right handed for throwing things, walking my dog (who pulls the leash as if she were an ox), and anything that seems to require some force or strength. i've noticed a lot of people on here have similar patterns. i wonder if right handed people split tasks in similar ways?

I'm right handed!
I could use my left hand if I really wanted/needed to, though.

I guess that's why I find it easier to make randomly complicated creations than building creative levels
