I'm Done.

Archive: 24 posts

That's it. Done. I've taken too much. Too much hate. Too much frustration and anger for me to withstand.

Russelsmuscles really is a wicked, demented, evil child. He's devoted a small fragment of his life to make sure I have a bad day. I pour my heart and soul into each and every creation I make, and I rarely get above 200 plays with any of them. He republishes his festering pile of a level and people love him for it.

Where's the justice in that?

As it stands, the Cool Levels system in LBP is flawed, perhaps beyond repair. Every day I am plagued with levels that are just mere trends; to be played once and never to be played again, like most levels. They don't use advanced logic or clever contraptions - they use falling bombs and psychological tricks.

There's no point in investing more of my time into levels nobody will play, to say things nobody will listen to.

We all know that rusclesmuscles and all his other accounts should be banned now, I don't see why it hasn't happened yet. For now though, try to ignore him, he's just an attention seeker.
Keep good-greifing his comments or anything still. Maybe Media Mollecule will get the message soon.

By the way, try re-publishing your levels again from your moon. Add a tiny piece of dark matter in one of the top corners and when you re-publish the level it will be back on cool levels for a short while and if you get enough plays/ hearts then it could stick there.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but i have to disagree with you a little. People DO play your levels, and people DO enjoy them! Is it necessarily a majority of LBP, probably not, but people do appreciate your work! The members here at LBPC ESPECIALLY understand all the work that you've put into your levels- we've even spotlighted one (and that is a rare honor indeed). Don't take it too hard on yourself, you're a great creator and your work does go appreciated.2009-08-25 03:23:00

Like Burnvictim said, we do enjoy and play your levels. Most people might not, but does it matter? You know you're levels are great, we know your levels are great. What does it matter if a little bugger says they suck? He's obviously wrong.

You should try simply ignoring him.

It sounds like you need a publishing strategy for your levels - just about anyone can get a lot of plays with a few steps - I'd be glad to help you with it. Russlesmuscles is irritating, but I usually just get a few of his comments and delete them.2009-08-25 03:35:00

Yeah, don't quit man! Your levels are awesome! And you clearly have a lot of fun playing the game and creating. So don't let this little weasel ruin a good thing for you!2009-08-25 03:45:00

Yeah.. no kidding. Don't let a huge idiot like that spoil your fun. Ignore the silliness of the cool pages. If you want more plays, take some advice from CCubbage as well as remember that it's more important the views of your work in here than the general public. I would take 1 heart from here over 100 or more out there in a heartbeat.. << - whoa.. accidental bad pun alert!2009-08-25 03:47:00

I can't remember having played any of your levels, but the fact that you've been spotlighted is enough proof to me that you're a good very good creator. Don't let some immature brat ruin the experience for you. I sympathize with you that after having put innumerous hours into creating levels, it can be frustrating to see carbon-copies of clich?d ideas get more hearts and plays than yours.

I just hope that you can in some way rediscover what made creating levels fun for you to begin with, and just ignore the in-game ratings. I've yet to make an entire level, but at this moment I will say that when I do publish one, I will be much more happy having had 5-10 plays and feedback from people that I respect here at LBPC than having had 200 plays from some nobodies who just happened to stumble across my levels while browsing.

Like I said, I feel for you, but don't let this ruin the experience for you. LBP is at core about fun. Add to that a friendly and quality community here at LBPC that will really miss you if you decide to let this frustration turn to you quitting LBP and LBPC.

hmm... can someone fill me in on who Russelsmuscles is and what exactly he's been up to? I don't spend much time (that is, any time) on Cool Levels, so I'm not aware of what's going on that deserves such a spanking. But I'm quite curious indeed!2009-08-25 05:31:00

I have NEVER played one of russel's levels. I HAVE played yours MANY TIMES. I'm a busy girl on LBP - I rarely go back to play a level more than 2 or 3 times as my play list is immense. YOUR levels I have played at least 5 times.... each! I have brought friends in to play them. Why would I do that if they weren't any good? You have a talent for fun levels that have a unique style and sense of humor. You are a gifted LBP creator who has been spotlighted TWICE - we don't just hand those out.

It would be a shame for you to stop something you obviously love and are good at because some attention seeking punk child has decided to wage war against you and has figured out the formula to dupe LBP players into his sub par levels.

Do this for you if you love it. Russel will get his if he keeps up his current behavior anyway.

Man, we get these thread once a month or so.

Cheer up bud, take it easy. LBP isn't serious business. Just have fun and while the system TOTALLY IS broken, it's possible to make fun out of it. Listen to CCubbage advice. I'll back him up also if ever he doesn't do his job properly.

Nah seriously, don't let russelmuscles and the cool pages remove your fun buddy.

Also, keep in mind that by giving up you are giving russel what he wants. Show him his opinion doesn't matter by simply ignoring him!2009-08-25 06:35:00

There's something that doesn't work in the premise of the thread.
I love your levels SLS10, but what you said is wrong.
First of all you MUST made levels because you ENJOY MAKING THEM.
First of all it's for you, then for anyone of us.
I think that you make the levels you want to play and you enjoy.
Don't let an idiot mess with you.

It's not just LBP... it's the world!

The average consumer is an idiot. They just do what we tell them to do.
If everyone else was wearing nike shoes then he/she would too.
If everyone else watches a action packed CG movie with no story at all, he/she would too.
If everyone else is playing a Bomb Survival Level then he/she would too!

It's the facts of life that us, the creators must face. Art, Music, Movies, Games, we're all in the same boat here. I sometimes feel down too, but a true level can ALWAYS destory a crappy trend level. It's just a matter of advertising.

snowyjoe - that was a great post, thank you.

We are all individuals, yet we feel frightened if we're in the minority. Everyday life fills us with demands to conform, to be conditioned, to 'follow'.

LBP, in its own small way, allows us to break out of this monotony. It gives each and every person the chance to design and create. It's a wonderful gift, and one that arrogance and hate will not destroy.

Out of the thousands of good, bad and indifferent comments I receive on my levels, there is one that always stands out for me.

It simply said, "Thank you, I enjoyed myself."

I say to you SLS10, the decision is completely yours, but I hope you realise that through all the negatives and BS, you have the power and ability to create things that people enjoy.

And that is a wonderful thing. Please don't stop.

If you rarely get above 200 plays you need to re-think your publishing tactics...
ANYONE can get on the cool pages if they really want to, seriously, it's not that hard.
But please don't stop creating because of this russelsmuscles because that is exactly what he wants.
Take a break, try to remember why you've bought this game in the first place and try to remember what it's all about.

I just played Night of the Monsters! 2, and I implore you to not give up! As everyone before me has mentioned, it sounds like you just need to dabble in some publishing tricks.

Don't overdo it, but republishing your level, be adding/removing a small chunk of dark matter out of sight will bring your level temporarily to the front of cool pages and give it some exposure. That level was surely cool pages material, and it should be rewarded justly. I would suggest deleting it and publishing as new, using the publishing trick. For what it's worth, you got 5 stars and a heart from me .

Edit: Thanks for that link Teebonesy!

Yea... Everyone hates russelno-muscles.

I'd rather play ramp a million times a day and have him banned.

Don't let idiots like russelsmuscles get you down. LBPC's users here including myself enjoy your brilliant levels, so much so that we praise them and even heart them, spotlight them and reccommend them to other players to give them more exposure and let more people enjoy your work. I do reccommend you republish levels. An extra hour or 2 on the first 6 cool pages can get you a good amount more plays.2009-08-25 18:51:00

Thank you, I enjoyed reading that.

So what did this guy do anyway? I see him spamming all the time, but that makes him no different from many, many LBP creators.

The advice CCubbage gave me when I released Subterranean Setbacks:

Here's what I would do:

1. PM some members you're friends with and let them know when you're going to publish it (I volunteer to be one).

2. Publish it locked for about half an hour... this will make it fall off the initial "cool pages".

3. Go in with a few sub-PSN accounts and rate it 5 stars and give it a heart on each.

4. Put up your showcase thread

5. Don't do a lot of republishing until you have enough plays/ratings/hearts to fortify it.

Your levels are very well made, medium difficulty with great humour, great visuals and a lot of cool stuff going on. They are perfect for a mainstream audience and with a a decent launch strategy you should get yourself stuck on cool pages and see a lot more success than you have.

I've said it elsewhere that your levels are very much underplayed and underrated, so I'll be happy to help you get a boost at launch if you decide to republish.

There's no point in investing more of my time into levels nobody will play, to say things nobody will listen to.

If you're only making levels to get validation from others, by all means please stop now.

Some of my early levels were made trying to cater to what I thought a majority of people would like...when that didn't work I just started making the levels I wanted to make...it was very liberating. One of my favorite levels (made shortly after release) still has less than 200 plays I think.

I say don't worry about getting lots of plays, the only real quality feedback you're likely to get is from the folks here anyway.

Make levels because it's fun for you...my playing other people's levels is very sporadic because I spend 99% of my LBP time in create mode...I'd really like to make a concerted effort to play more stuff by others, I'll try to play some of yours tonight.

I also disdain the make a minor change/re-publish routine. I've got better things I could be doing than babysit my level for a week...and I always worry about accidentially breaking something. I also really don't like bumping people's comments.

Sounds like you need a break, come back when we get water!

(EDIT) Played your 2 monster levels, really good stuff...you really have a knack for creating levels. Boss tutorial was also quite helpful/interesting...I'd played it previously...
