'Undug' sort of Fade

Well I'm working on a new level working name 'Undug' where you play as Undug the Earthquake God and go through time destroying buildings. The level works using the Fade cubes that I designed and Red Faction buildings which I made that work without any glue and will collapse if certain hotspots are targeted. The basic principle is the player is at the bottom of the screen on a platform one layer thick. Above them is a layer of these blocks which dissolve when shot, on top of the blocks is a city or general building landscape. The player shoots blocks to make certain targeted buildings collapse and fall down (the player is on a one layer platform so buildings don't get stuck). The problem I have is that the player can just shoot all of the blocks and make everything collapse and fall down so I need something to stop that. My ideas so far: Have anti-objectives that make you fail a stage if destroyed - May make players just simply ignore an area altogether Have a system where if less blocks are destroyed more points are given - May add too much to the thermo Limit paint shots so only a certain amount of platforms can be destroyed - May cause the level to be impossible So general thoughts on the idea and maybe some solutions to the problems ![]() *Video Preview (not game footage) is uploading to youtube* | 2009-08-24 14:20:00 Author: Shermzor ![]() Posts: 1330 |
The Idea sounds good to me. Try to check if the nuber two idea fill the thermo to soon. Copy the level and work on the copy and se how the reward system gets. If the system is too bad, deletethe level and continue on the last one. You might waste some time if it goes wrong, but hey! Yer the video, erm.. 8 hour upload and I accidentally shut the window after 7 hours... The idea of just shooting targeted bits is to make it easier to calculate, rather than measure every joint on a building I can say 'Knock out the power' and you know you have to aim to destroy generators, or 'destroy the windows' and then you can either just collapse the building or set off a chain reaction by causing another building to collapse on top of the windows.
