Pretty cool - anyone who attempts animation gets my vote becasue it is so darn difficult.

I personally use Photoshop (CS3) which has a pretty good animation bolt-on, but a cheaper option is Paint Shop Pro, which actually has some pretty cool effects.

Not sure if GIMP has one as this would be a good free option.

Whoa - that's a lot of programs to use for one gif!! This must have taken you longer than I thought

When you say you use camstudio to record - what exactly are you recording? If they are simple frame-based images like the one you showed, a screen dump would be easier and wouldn't create a huge avi to mess around with. Then you wouldn't have to edit the movie in moviemaker either - cuts a lot of the middle-men out.

As I've said - if you want to improve on quality - tear apart MS Paint with a 60" chainsaw, then burn it, then stomp it to the dust like the preverbial pain it is!! (Or just don't use it lol) - Word??? Arrgghh - Don't use Word - it saves as BMP's which are nasty!! Seriously - learn GIMP - its free to download, free to use and its the next best thing to PhotoShop.
