What do you do when you feel burned out? Well im feeling really burned out from making my Majora's Mask Tribute and Sky Town 3 and Beta...... yeah LBP been taking all my gaming time lol Well normally I draw to relax and get away from everything but on a bit of a artist block as well, So looking at the white paper not helping. so what do you do when you feeling burned out? | 2009-08-22 21:28:00 Author: jump_button Posts: 1014 |
I read an issue of Game Informer. *scans through pages* What?! They gave Call of Juarez an 8/10?! Blasphemy!! | 2009-08-22 21:31:00 Author: Outlaw-Jack Posts: 5757 |
Listening to music can help a bit. Youtube videos could be inspiring for levels. If there are any new games you are interested in then look at the scenery in videos of gameplay, it could give you some ideas (concept art from games is usually quite inspiring and could give you an idea for a whole story, just from looking at one picture). | 2009-08-22 21:37:00 Author: S-A-S--G-U-N-R Posts: 1606 |
Stop playing the game. I burned out completely halfway through making Subterranean setbacks - around two months into the project, and I was just about starting to realise how much of a challenge the second half was going to be. Various sections have large quantities of logic, but the stuff needed to tie everything together was just daunting. One month off and I got back on it and I was fine again. Took a little while to get the ball rolling properly but if I had've powered through that month I wouldn't have had a chance. If you're burned out you're never gonna produce your best work anyways. | 2009-08-22 21:40:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
I think you can do a variety of things. - do other things you enjoy - music, movies? - don't stop playing LBP, but stop putting yourself under pressure - join friends and relax - remember, this is a GAME and is meant to be FUN. I know what you mean about 'burn out', and a few of us are very good at playing 10 hours, 15 hours a day! The game will be here tomorrow, and you should chill! | 2009-08-22 21:46:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |

Yeah, I need advice on that too What I do is going back to history mode levels. This helps you to recover the real essence of this game. "Play" with the editor, but not creating anything special, just research, try that thing you were wondering if it could work. Try other games if you wish, that could help you to realize how great LBP is... | 2009-08-22 21:56:00 Author: poms Posts: 383 |
What i normally do is stop making that level completely. I leave the level for a couple of days and come back to it fresh with new ideas. Sometimes just complaining and ranting about the fruasteration and annoyingness you have in LBP on these forums help me too. But when you just want to throw the LBP disk out the window, all i do is create a new profile and re-play the game from the start. It help's me realise what a wonderful world LBP was, it also helps me remember the ideas and magical feeling I had when i first got the game. | 2009-08-22 22:05:00 Author: snowyjoe Posts: 509 |
I went through this with Tribal Ruins. From the start up until the 3 stairs that split into 5 I wasn't really happy with any of it. There was only one part that I was truly happy with and that's the part where you break the sponge key off and then it lowers the stairs for you. I felt like I was just creating to add another level to my collection and not because I wanted to create or was enjoying it. Everything felt laboured and although I do usually make it up to a degree, a lot of this I was just building scenery and sections without actually knowing what I was going to put in it. Eventually I got it all together and manage to get to all work alright, but it just felt a bit disjointed in it's early days because I didn't really know what to do with it. | 2009-08-22 23:13:00 Author: jackofcourse Posts: 1494 |
I switch over to my computer and either do some work, or just do somthing silly and post it some where: http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/emote/Sacktick.jpg | 2009-08-22 23:14:00 Author: swanbrown Posts: 898 |

I ride my bike and go for walks.... oh, and watch movies with my wife. Having separate experiences outside of video games can be theraputic and can create inspiration. | 2009-08-22 23:52:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
When I get burned out, which is a lot, I try to focus on another of my hobbies. I go swimming, biking, i write my comics, i play other video games and i make puppets. I'll generally take a break from creating for a month or so, and then come back to it. It's why I have so few levels. I can't keep cranking them out one after another, or I think I'll die. | 2009-08-23 01:20:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
go out with my friends and have a good time, which is bascially what i've been doing all day it really does help thought | 2009-08-23 01:22:00 Author: Comet Wolf Posts: 99 |
Playing other games help for me. Also having other activities and getting out in town with my wife does help too. I am currently cutting some slack from the game. I had 2 other ideas for levels but it needed to sleep a bit and see if I will really do them. Sometimes it's like wine, you need to let it get old a bit and it taste better. . | 2009-08-23 06:34:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
Take a step back, try and work on it as little a possible and come back after a break and work on the level again so I have newer fresher ideas. | 2009-08-23 10:34:00 Author: TheFirstAvenger Posts: 787 |
If you don't have any important deadlines, just relax. The weight off your shoulders will do your mind some good, and you'll be in much better shape when you try to tackle the project again. Listen to calm music for the duration as well. | 2009-08-23 11:08:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
If you don't want to give up lbp altogether, just try something completely different. Go into create mode and just goof-off. Try and have fun with it. Eventually, you'll remember why you enjoy making levels so much and you'll get back into it. At least we can hope . | 2009-08-23 13:50:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Yeah, definitely the best thing to do is take a vacation from LBP. if you're getting burned out, if you're not having a good time, if you're constantly frustrated, put it down for a good while. Put it down for a few weeks! Put it on the shelf and get on with your life. A few weeks, a month, a couple of months down the road, you'll see it on the shelf and feel absolutely energized to pull it out and get the show back on the road. It's so much more refreshing and fun to play this game after a hiatus. You may feel like everyone else will have stopped playing by now, but you'll then be surprised that the world of LittleBigPlanet has been going strong without you, and there are an unending supply of amazing new levels coming out by creators left, right and center. This is what happened to me anyway. Been playing it a lot more lately, and it's been so much better that I haven't played it in so long. | 2009-08-23 23:16:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
Usually I just go on LBPC to see what all you gadders are doing. | 2009-08-24 00:12:00 Author: Mod5.0 Posts: 1576 |
If I start to get frustrated while building a level, I usually set LBP aside for a day or two and catch up on my backlog of games. And usually, while playing those other games, or watching movies, I'll get an idea for something I'd like to try in LBP.. then I get excited to jump back in. | 2009-08-24 05:08:00 Author: mrsupercomputer Posts: 1335 |
remember, this is a GAME and is meant to be FUN. Yeah, the moment it becomes a chore, it's no longer fun. I've had a break from create mode for this reason, now the hardest part is getting motivated to jump back in. | 2009-08-25 05:34:00 Author: EVOin3D Posts: 91 |
