Contraption Challenge 08 - VOTING

For this challenge you need to make.... an amusement ride! However, not just any ride. It has to be a 'flat ride', which means no roller coasters, ghost trains or anything that uses a track. Flat rides include things like ferris wheels, pirate ships, drop towers, zippers, carousels and much more.

Find my "Contraption Challenge 08" level, where I've made an example (which can be seen below). It's a ferris wheel, but I've made it more interesting by giving it a spooky theme (ready for Hallowe'en) with a giant moving spider in the middle. Whilst it's a good idea to keep your ride realistic, you will also need to think outside to box to make something more original.

Unlike the previous challenges where there was a specific task to complete, all you need to do with this one is make something that looks awesome and is fun to ride (yes, Sackboy does need to ride it. No standing at the side watching). However, if you want to make something a bit more complicated with logic, then give your ride a sequence of events. So instead of my ferris wheel continuously spinning, I could have it stop when you walk up to it, then move once you get in, then stop once it's done a full rotation to allow you to get out. So, all you need to do to take part is create a new level and build your ride. There's no size limit, but these rides don't usually take up much space (although they can be very high). Concentrate on making the ride look the best it can, and maybe give it a theme. Use plenty of sounds too. And if you're going to enter more than one ride, put them in seperate levels.

Once you're done, give it a title with 'CC08' at the beginning, publish it, and then leave a comment on my example level so that others can find it. You've got until Sunday 1st November to get it published. Have fun, and good luck!

With working I only get chance to make stuff at weekends now and I'm out most of Saturday.

Probably several reasons. Not the best time for the challenge because almost everyone was playing Uncharted for most of it (even I haven't played LBP since getting it). There's not a task or goal the contraption has to completel either (such as climbing a wall) which might put some people off entering.		2009-10-30 11:09:00

Yeah, you're probably right. Unfortunately, i wasn't able to take Uncharted 2 this time, because i have no money :eek: Then, i will probably finish the projects i'm working on, then i'm going to buy it. I bought some games import from thr UK, and it's very useful: i paid the same games something like an half that their price in Italy... Anyway, my level is quite ready, the contraption works, now i'm making the "amusement park" to place it, and i need some beta test. 		2009-10-30 13:43:00

My level is far from finished so i posted the three main contraptions. The ferris wheel (cc08 carnival) is kinda broken. The Sack Master (not really a ride). And The Twister (for the officially awesome category). I'll repost when the level is complete.

It might be better if you left CC08 in the title. I know it doesn't help with the search bug, but it's an easy way of identifying the levels from each challenge.



Anyway, time is now up for cvreating! I'm going to take a look at them all later and get them hearted and post a list here so that the voting can begin. Can't wait to see them! 		2009-11-10 13:28:00

CHALLENGE 08 - VOTING

Time for the voting! If I'm being completely honest, this has been the weakest challenge yet (mainly because the challenge wasn't the best idea), but there's still some great contraptions come out of it. Well done to everyone who participated!

Now we can get on with the voting.

What you need to do is search for 'CC08' and you'll see all the entries for this challenge. Have a play through all of them and take note of your favourites. Then just post in this thread up to three levels you think deserve to be in the final (not including yourself).

I had lots of fun playing all of them. It was hard to decide. I used a complex system of smiley faces and question marks.
