Line Tool
Archive: 10 posts
I often compare Create Mode to Flash because suprisingly i've found they have a lot of similarities There's one simple tool in Flash that i'd really like to see in LBP though because i think it's a really useful tool. I'm not sure what to call it so i called it the line tool Basically you can draw lines to mark a separation between 2 materials, and then change/delete part of this as if it were an entirely different shape. (I suck at explaining so i drew diagrams again) http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3645/linetool1.png - Here it shows that it can act similar to a polygon tool, so you could create complex shapes much more quickly and easily than you would with the corner editor. http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/9577/linetool2.png - Here i've shown that you can draw polygons into existing materials to make a new shape within it. This is currently quite difficult to do and a lot of the time seems to be quite glitchy. As shown you can either change the material of the shape or delete it to create a window. http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/7782/linetool3.png - This is something that i find really difficult to do with the current tools. It shows that you can separate and change the material at the edge of something without changing it's shape. Again it also shows that you can use this to snip bits off There are a few other functions that i haven't mentioned like adding to shapes more easily, but some of it goes without saying and can be done with the corner editor really easily. That's about as much depth as i'm going to go in to anyway There are other things that i can't show through drawing such as using this tool across more than one layer. And as far as i'm aware there are no conflicts in controls that would make this difficult to pull off. | 2009-08-21 12:01:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
I'd also like to see this in LBP, looks really useful | 2009-08-21 12:12:00 Author: L0l_L0l- Posts: 139 |
It's a great idea, it's just hard to control with the left analog stick. Maybe if pushing the left stick up moved forward and the right stick changed the angle of movement, it would work, but I can't see a line tool being terribly accurate without a new way of movement. | 2009-08-21 12:21:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
I agree, a line tool along with KB and mouse support. | 2009-08-21 12:23:00 Author: Kiminski Posts: 545 |
I agree, a line tool along with KB and mouse support. Create Mode with keyboard and mouse = Heaven. | 2009-08-21 12:27:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
You don't have to actually draw the lines, you just select the points and it draws the lines for you. That's how line tools work in graphic programs anyway It's just as accurate as using something like the corner editor. | 2009-08-21 12:39:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |

It's hindered by having to use a stick, rather than a mouse. But still, selecting the points would be much easier, I hadn't thought of that. | 2009-08-21 12:54:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |

A simple point to point line tool would be ok, but I thought you meant with node editing and stuff. I find the corner editor bad enough tbh, never use it. | 2009-08-21 12:58:00 Author: Kiminski Posts: 545 |
I hate the fact that the corner editor obscures the vertex in question with a giant bloody glow - what's that all about? The one thing on the screen I really want to see and you cover it up. Nice. And yes, I want my keybaord and mouse support as well, with customisable hotkeys. w=winch, p=piston, d=darkmatter. Please MM, please. @dex, I'm not 100% sure what you mean, but it sounds pretty cool | 2009-08-21 13:02:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Yes a cutter tool designed like the corner tool will be awesome. (If I understood what you mean Dexiro) | 2009-08-21 15:55:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
