mean people in lbp =(

every1 who has been playing lbp for a while, im sure has seen some form of nasty behavior from those "mean peepol" in lbp...they leave mean messages in ur lvl comment box, send u hurtfull thingz through ps mail, and do everything possible just to get u mad.

every 1s experience should vary to some extent and to different extremes, and i would LOVE to hear some of your experiences... and im sure other victims of these hatefull people sould love to hear about it 2.

Hahahahaha - Awesome, that's even more ironic. Funny thing is, I was looking at the word sentence thinking "is that speeled right, I'd better be sure before I post this". I really suck at spelling these days So:

Ahem... Bacnk on topic. I've obviously not had to experience this, what with me being low profile as a creator. I can see where it becomes upsetting but at the same time you have to think about who these people are. No one of any worth posts comments like that - their opinions are nothing. YOu also have to consider why you are targetted mdaj - because you are famous. There are only a handful of people who could do what you do, and people are jealous of that. I've had this happen to me before. Someone left a comment that said "play.my.infinite.death.level". I had nothing better to do, so I played it. I'll give you a basic idea of the gameplay.

1. You spawn
2. You fall onto an infinite life checkpoint, activating it
3. You fall into fire
4. You spawn from the infinite life checkpoint
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you are angry enough to send the person a message telling them how their level is rubbish and not to advertise it on my levels, only for them to bombard you with swears and have the audacity to point out that their crap level has more plays than mine.

It's probably my fault for sending him the message rather than just deleting his comment, but it also his fault for advertising on my level in the first place.		2009-08-21 12:02:00

Plays do not measure the quality of a level - but rather the ammount of people who have played it. I don't know why people think if they get enough plays, their level is "Good"		2009-08-22 06:53:00

if you'll indulge me for a second, I think mean people in LBPC deserve a mention here.

Now there aren't many, and they aren't really all that bad, but the amount of wonderful people here makes them stand out in contrast to me. Always with the short 1 or two sentence buzz kill.

Any way, I haven't dealt with much more than the odd rubbish tag, or down rate when publishing... I think it's safer to publish when American kids are away from their computers.		2009-08-22 09:20:00

It's bad enough when they put comments about the level 'sukking' or some such nonsense. When I get those I just delete them as I do H4H and spam.

Recently though I had one which was personally insulting on my new PLASMAVILLE level.

Someone called JOHNNY_RIGHTEOUS left a comment that said "who ever made this is a retard".

Charming ! Unfortunately I can't delete the message or grief report him yet because as you may or may not know my account is presently banned ( all explained in another thread ). I think when it gets to the stage of personal insults like that it's gone too far and action should be taken against them by Sony. I've got a portly prot?g? who doesn't create levels, but can be very conversational in comments without fear of reprisal. Any-way, my rotund compodre tells me that Mr. Righteous's comments were no-where in evidence on the first page.

While this level is really not to my tastes, you are clearly a talented, creative, and thoughtful man. And my guess would be deliciously handsome as well. May peace be with you and your family always.

People leave mean comments on my levels all the time. I delete them if they're not constructive criticism of the level.

My favorite "mean" comment I got was "This level is carp" ...

I also got "needs work" left on "what's the matter" (which is a joke level) ... went to this individual's levels who left this comment, and there was a level called "try not to die" featuring 700 rocket cheetahs and 24 entrances. And no exit. Oh, and another one, which to this day holds a special place in my heart, called Unnamed level. This level had 17 beachballs, and a giant car you couldn't get into.

So, my advice to you is that if someone leaves a comment telling you that you suck, please, by all means, check out their levels. Might make you feel a lot better. ^_^

I've found that people on the internet are really mean because they think they can be. I don't think they know that real live people with feelings make the levels that are on cool levels. Yeah, hate-trolls are always gonna be around. If I get a mean message on a comments page, I generally ignore it. . . I try not to delete it. . freedom of speech and all that, and I don't respond to it. . because thats what they want, a reaction. And more often than not the next few comments on the page are happy gadders coming to your defense. I just have to lol when I see somebody trying to spread the anger get attacked for his own efforts.

Also 9 times outa 10 these comments are left by people who've never spent enough time in create mode to make anything they think would be worth publishing. They talk the talk, but can't walk the walk.

I think the worst thing they can do is upload anonymous pictures with foul language on your level. . . I probably let that get to me more than anything else, even when I see it on levels that aren't mine. . . they are irritating. Leaving comments is one thing, at least they aren't affraid to speak their minds and let you know who they are. But these anonymous picsters are a new breed of coward. MM should really do something about that. Except for this one pic some crazy dude posted on some of my levels that says "squirlin must die"- I can only seem to think of this pic as a harmless joke from some un-named prankster. hah hah. I have a story about that. They posted what the bug was. Along with VISUAL examples. lol. I got a message that said this:

This level is PRETTY good, but you have a lot of aesthetic problems.

The message went on to tell me that he could see dark matter and that the level was totally sloppy. He used up about 3 or 4 message blocks to type this all out. Then he took pictures of the level and every little area he had a problem with it and uploaded it to the level.

This, for some reason, really offended me. lol. I have no idea why. Maybe 'cause I'm an artist with very little self esteem

I do know one thing, though. The comments I've gotten in this game have made me a lot more thick skinned. I think if I got that comment now, I would have had a good laugh. I don't let it bother me anymore.

Yes, xkappax, this game has a habit of thickening skin! I'm quite shy, and LBP has brought me out of my shell a bit.

When I first started getting 'you suck' and 'worst lvl eva' comments, I was mortified. Now, I just just either chuckle or sigh at the banality and the spelling.

Excellent advice. 9 times out of 10 you can tell just by the level names how bad they are - you don't wana to add to this guys plays now, do you?



I've found that people on the internet are really mean because they think they can be.
I heard a really interesting story a while back. An artist - very controversial for reasons I can't remember - started getting death threats and all kinds of abuse over the internet from people, simply because those people felt invulnerable and didn't like her work. The artist, being an professional artist and not having the yoke of a 9-5 around her neck, took a sabatical to find out who these people are, uncover all of their dirty little secrets, and publish them into a book. I think she sent free copies to the offending parties This story amuses me, because people do feel that they can act in ways they wouldn't dare when they are protected by the anonymity of the internet and it's good to see some consequences...		2009-08-22 17:09:00

I just read an article about cyber bullies. Basically it states that since people can get away with being a bully with little consequences, due to the fact that they can pretend to be anything on the internet, they use this to make themselves feel important. If confronted face to face they would, in most instances, never have the guts to display that behavior.

I try to take those comments with a grain of salt, consider the source, delete the comment if it has no constructive use and move on. You will always find people who are jealous or mean for no reason. Best thing is to surround yourself with supportive people like those here at LBPC.		2009-08-22 17:15:00

In cases when I loose my laid back attitude toward that kind of trifling nonsense, I find venting in threads like this helps. they've included a really high-quality angry face for this. ()

Nuclearfish is absolutely right. The ?u suk? comments are just made by jealous bullies. My son has published 3 levels which even a doting Mother can see are *cough* not very good, but then he is only 9 and for a boy of his age they are not bad. However, despite a lot of anxiety on my part his levels have largely escaped severe criticism apart from one ?rubbish? tag. These bullies only go for people who they know they cannot hope to emulate and they try to make themselves feel better by venting their inadequacy from a position of safety. In a weird, topsy-turvy, Alice through the Looking Glass way you should take it as a compliment. If your levels weren?t so good, you wouldn?t get targeted in this way...2009-08-22 20:06:00

I'm not so sure about that . . . devil's advocate here. . . but the there are some good arguments to back up these tags. Sure it sucks to have levels you worked hard on recieve these tags, but they have often been appropriately attatched to empty h4h levels or levels with cars and beachballs like xkappax was talking about.

Before good levels can be made, you need to spend some time in create mode just playing around, familiarizing yourself with the possibilities. All too often I see people decide to publish what is left over after they're done playing around. If they're gonna do that and don't want a lousy or rubbish tag, then they should let us know in the description or in the level that its just some stuff they were playing around with and wanted others to see. That way when it comes time to judge the level (and make no mistake thats what we are doing with our hearts, stars, and tags) we can do so more informed of the creator's intent.

Lol, now the trouble is to distinguish these levels from ones that youngsters make and pour their little hearts and souls into. (sometimes these will resemble the "messing around in create mode" levels). But there are some clues we can use to guess at the age of the creator. . . and I think effort is recognizable no matter how old they are.

And finally lets just face it: there are a lot worse tags that could've been come up with than "lousy" and "rubbish".

The "empty" tag adequately describes these levels in a non abrasive way. The tags are for categorizing, and describing levels, not for rating the quality. That's what the rating system is for.

If the sad, little spite-filled aggressors of LBP Didn't have so many tools to beat others over the head with, they wouldn't be so much of a problem!

Also, stop an think for a second. Most H4H'rs are probably kiddies faced with either H4H, or trying to compete with trained and skilled veteran adults. So when you tag an H4H level with "rubbish", there's a pretty good chance that you aren't doing your-self any karmic favors.

I was just talking to my husband about this. i think that rubbish and lousy are pretty mean tags. If I were a 12 year old child who tried really really hard to make a level and then found rubbish and lousy tags on my level, I'd be really, really sad.

The more I think about it, the more I realize I concede to Swanbrown's point of rubbish and lousy being tags we could do without. We would still be left with Ugly, Empty, Daft, Mad, Frustrating, and probably a few others that would still let the community get their point accross.

I made this turtle race level and that I thought was pretty cool and it just bombed terribly. After 2000 plays it recieved maybe 50 hearts. . .(not a good play to heart ratio if you ask me) and was tagged as frustrating and rubbish. For a tag to stick it has to be among the most used I think, so I couldn't chalk this up to jealousy or meanness. I'm convinced the tags got replaced by friends who felt bad for me. . . Lol, probably the same friends who gave it the 50 hearts.

The Point is that the level didn't bomb because of mean people, it bombed because it was a bad level and the LBP community successfully told me so. People just weren't having fun with it. . . its missing someting, and perhaps one day i'll revisit the idea (which i'm still convinced is good) and try and figure out where I went wrong.

Its dissapointing. . . even a little embarassing even to have your creations negatively tagged, but if they remain consistantly tagged bad after lots of plays; then perhaps the community is telling you something worth listening to.		2009-08-23 04:50:00

every1 has a good point about doing away with the "ugly" and "rubbish" tags. maybe m&m should make an update where these tags cannot be used if the playerz personal profile fits a specific age group??? just a thought... but probably wont happen. =P

I had a really interesting one (mentioned it on another thread somewhere).

After I originally released "Splat Invaders Saga" (it's been a LONG time now) I got a comment from someone named "Aaron_Parker" who said "How do you make things move without pistons? It's impossible. Please tell me".

I ignored the comment (keep in mind, Splat Invaders was one of the early levels to use the techniques to glue 2 thick layers with a thin in-between to hide the mechanics, so he probably hadn't seen it before)

About a week later I got a second message "I played your level! Why won't you tell me how you did it?"

I, once again, ignored the message.

About a week later I got a direct PSN message "I and a bunch of my friends played your level many times - the LEAST you can do is tell me how you did it"

I replied "I don't have a keyboard and its hard to explain - if you go to LBPCentral.com I've posted information on the techniques I used."

I had one guy who found out I got a crown. He sent me a few messages back and forth, very innocently, and then he asked to join my game.

He entered the game and demanded I change into the crown costume (i don't normally wear it) He then took a picture of me wearing the crown. Not him with me wearing the crown. Just me wearing the crown.

After this, the emails started. Make an animation with me so I can get a crown. Make an animation for me so I can get a crown. How can I get a crown? Will you account share your crown?

I repeatedly told him several ways to get a crown, or things he could do, and I told him if he wanted to promote his levels to come here. He said, "okay".

Not a day later I began to receive an email every single time I was on that said "so when are we going to make that animation together". This kept up for a while, and eventually I had to remove him from my friends list, which i HATE doing. 		2009-08-25 02:04:00

u struggle to come-up with something that will take care of both these problems... and at the same time, u feel so awful about it.

I had a really interesting one (mentioned it on another thread somewhere).

After I originally released "Splat Invaders Saga" (it's been a LONG time now) I got a comment from someone named "Aaron_Parker" who said "How do you make things move without pistons? It's impossible. Please tell me".

I ignored the comment (keep in mind, Splat Invaders was one of the early levels to use the techniques to glue 2 thick layers with a thin in-between to hide the mechanics, so he probably hadn't seen it before)

About a week later I got a second message "I played your level! Why won't you tell me how you did it?"

I, once again, ignored the message.

About a week later I got a direct PSN message "I and a bunch of my friends played your level many times - the LEAST you can do is tell me how you did it"

I replied "I don't have a keyboard and its hard to explain - if you go to LBPCentral.com I've posted information on the techniques I used."

Most people leaving bad comments on levels are usually just made by people who are jealous at your creations and not really calling your level as such but more of jealous that they can't create such a good level.
Sadly it's around, some people don't have better things to do with their time then leave bad comments on people's created levels.
Strangely enough I never thought my levels very good but I've had people befriend me that have mainly befriended me because they like my levels although they're really not that good.		2009-08-25 20:38:00

Sorry for laughing, I know that being in your situation it's just terribly awkward, and having to delete someone who is essentially "innocent" (stupidly so) is a hard thing to have to do. That's really mean, I've played a few of your levels and they are really good I really don't know how someone can say anything otherwise but I guess if he didn't play the level then I guess he wouldn't know.
Like my H4H trap level, on one of my accounts it got spammed with H4H messages and clearly they didn't play it because they wouldn't have been asking for hearts if they did.

I thought of another instance of "mean people in lbp" ... this was a long time ago (well, back in December) ... Had a guy send me a friend invite, and I accepted. This was right when cool levels got fixed and Centralia was cemented on page 5 of cool levels. The guy saw our video on youtube, and he seemed pretty nice. However.

He wanted to play online with me every two minutes, even when I was creating. I sent him a message and said "i'm creating" or "i'm playing levels with my husband and my friends" ... and he would always send me a message back saying "it's okay." followed by this: "You know, it's okay if you're busy, you do not have to send me a message explaining why you can't join ^_^"

I thought to myself "YES. finally! someone who understands that people don't want to play every minute of every day!" and I left it at that.

Maybe a month passed, and he was on again, and I was working on the Crystal Cave in Autumn. I was testing the mine cart section with two other people to see if it tipped with that many. He started to invite me, over and over again, and I just hit "decline", because he told me I didn't have to send him a message explaining myself. I then received a message with the subject line " > " and the body of the message just said "BYE" ... he deleted me from his friends list.

When Centralia got on cool levels, it was a real shock. I had 3 friends on my friends list. All of a sudden, I was getting these random requests. The animation was really the icing on the cake though. That got on the playstation blog, and I got no less than 10 requests a day! Some of the people were really nice and are still on my friends list. Others were like this:

HAI CAN I SEEZ YORSZ CROWNZESZZZZORSZZZZ! HOW DYD YOUUUUU GET THEMZ!

or ....

Now, I have about 96 people on my friends list. Most are either creators that I talk with from time to time about creating, or even people I've created WITH, people I met in the very beginning that I enjoy playing online with, and friends who live near me.

I, unfortunately, can't accept random friend requests anymore because of how full my list actually is. I'm getting to the point where I still speak to pretty much everyone on there, too, so I can't go deleting people.

Firstly I would like to congratulate the guys at the start of the thread with the very funny convo about spelling (i hope everything is right here! lol). That was probably one of the funniest things i've seen in a while... apart from sackboy standing next to the MASSIVE spider in MM.

And yeah i agree with everyone, i get hate-mail sometimes... i just tend to delete it. I get the obvious, but i've also had- 'U slag!' (I lol'd at that one- because im actually a boy) but yeah i often reply to the people who leave me bad comments just to enter a huge argument that drags on for weeks!

I have to admit, i do occasionally start these kinda arguments by posting bad messages on other peoples' walls BUT i will only do this in defence of another creator. For example, I saw someone wrote on Jackofcourse's wall: 'I hate this level, i thought u were a good creator. NOW YOU SUCK!' I thought that was quite a horrible thing to say, so i spammed all their levels with horrible messages... Don't know if this was the right thing to do? Not facing someone directly allows the little itty bitty tiny childern to come out of their shells and say stuff they normally won't in real life.

You see it on Youtube, blogs, forums... and even LBP.

The internet just seems to dumb down the maturaty of some people. The best way is to avoid it completely.

I think that's exactly it. The backlash against those who copy others has gone to an extreme in the LBP community, as a direct response to the extreme amount of plagiarism. The excess of plagiarism has led to a scenario where any dirivative or referential work is shunned, even passing similarities are considered wholesale ripoffs. Strangely though, it's considered completely OK to lift anything you want from outside of LBP (in fact it seems to be encouraged), just not things from within the community

It's a shame that there are people effectively acting like they are speaking for you, but have no idea of your wishes really are - they probably think they are doing wonderful things. All I can say is if you see this again to try and write supportive comments on the levels. Any number of abusive comments should be cancelled out by a positive comment from the person who's influenced it.		2009-09-01 15:48:00

i didnt realize the eye toy also had a mic at the time and that it was always on.
i was online playing on of the canyons levels i think.
i had someone else (random) playing with me.
on one part i would jump to a spinning platform that (at the time) i couldnt stay on indefinitely.
the other player did not want to advance to where i was until i continued,
but with them where they were i couldnt see where i was supposed to go.
i got frustrated and said something like, "jump you retard!"
i would like to reiterate at this point that i thought the only ones listening were my cats.
i got a message stating "you suck" and the other player left.
it wasnt til the next day that we noticed sackboys mouth moving along with noises in the room.

I dont seem to get anything like that happen to me! but then again I dont have any levels that have the 'Wow' factor(but there not random H4H ones with nothing in them). And when playing a level I only comment if it was a good level

I find that the thing is that since the internet is now a widespread thing, nobody thinks twice about what there doing and just puts the first thing in there head...and in the case of 8-12 year olds is abuse! This sorta thing really saddens me why cant we all just get on...or at least pretend to!

If they had written it in japanese, I would have just said "ooh, japanese characters" and not thought a thing of it. But they actually wrote out baka in english. So it was someone who didn't know the japanese characters just trying to be crafty. hah hah.

And, a little off topic, I love everything Rumiko Takahashi has ever done, pretty much, especially her old stuff. Ranma is great, but Urusei Yatsura (Lum) is probably my favorite comic of all time. It definitely influenced my comics!

Back on topic, I've had some pretty weird comments on my levels, too. On centralia, some kid left a comment that said "hey there are kids on here i am one" ... I don't know if the level scared this person, or what. I was very puzzled by that. Also, and this isn't really a comment, but someone just left a photo of the assassins creed box art on our level. I took a photograph of the screen because i thought it was just hilarious. I'll have to dig that up.

Since 7 days was on page on, I got ALOT of really nice comments and ALOT of really mean comments.

And then about every six comments I got "PLAY.MY.CAR.GARAGE.LEVEL.ITS.REALLY.AWESOME. 		2009-09-06 13:25:00

I commented on his nasty weapons level that the guns were too big to be useful, so he must of thought he was soooo funny to say "incinerator 22, kill yoself", OVER and OVER and OOOOOVER! He said me and my boyfriends cant make vehicles, and that I'm a pathetic homo. He also uploaded a picture with the word *** on my level. He even got his minion friend to join in. My friend tried to defend me, but it only made him angrier and spammier. I was so mad, because for two weeks he'd been posting at least 3 comments a day and i didn't notice. I don't know if this is mean, or ignorant or whatever, but I've had some comments on my costume gallery levels that say it sucked because there are no tutorials and because of that, they gave me 1 star

I left a comment on his anti H4H level please asking him to stop leaving hurtful messages and that as an anti H4Her I'd hope he'd understand how hurtful those kinds of messages can be.

I don't know if it will help but hopefully he will stop.

I don't know about the rest of you but It just breaks my heart when people do this. If you don't like a level or the way someone creates just don't play their levels or ignore them. Leaving messages like this that are meant to wound, insult, and make people stop expressing themselves creatively just make me sick. Especially in a game like LBP where the whole point is to share your own individual voice and talents with the rest of the community, these comments are especially saddening. There's an old saying, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." I wish more people would take this to heart.

For those of us on the receiving end of vicious and hurtful comments take them for what they are worth, which ultimately is nothing. If you have fun playing and creating who are these people to take that joy from you. Keep your spirits up and know that there are generous and kind people all over the world who appreciate your unique voice and creativity in LBP. 		2009-09-10 07:33:00

Thanks. He really is mean. Mean is an understatement, I would call him worse things if this wasn't an open age forum. A guy named Jeremy67, or something like that, really got it hard. I only saw one ot the "pickle messages" looked like a couple differant factions had hit back with "homo reaction" uploads on domino reaction, and and other assorted stuff. I aslo saw a few familliar LBPC names on the comment lists. Content deleted, of course.

There was this one guy, whom is on my block list now, say in one of my levels (which I deleted), "This level is a peice of **** go **** up someone elses life will ya!!" (He even put the nasty words in the comments section not blocking anything out!!) He then sent me a message on the PSN saying "You suck *** at making levels so get off this game and leave us alone! You are such a freakin nerd and I would rather be anyone but you. Go **** yourslelf and get off this game!!"

I got so angry I looked at his levels and all they were were H4H levels!! OMG! I could not believe it! I was so angry until I took a peek at his levels!

(By the way I have two new levels out if anyone wants to play them. Only my friends have played them.)

That really sucks.

One time I hit Quick play by accident and it was a pretty good first level. I commented it was good. Some other guy commented saying it sucked, so I checked out his levels. Two copied levels and a prize level later and I commented on his ?Hey, you have NO right to judge his levels, 2 of your levels are copied and another is a prize level, and for a first level its great!? Russels changed it a while ago, making it about spongebob level but still focusing on his "real water" and removing all traces of him being a jerk in the description, and the weirdest part, the heart ratio and amount good comments have improved.

Now either he actually made a semi-decent level (I don't play levels made by scums so i don't know), or more noobs (from GotY edition) and H4Hers are supporting him, or my guess is he got a little warning from MM and he's cleaning up his act.

But either way, there's no way he can be forgiven for the things he has done. So even if he did change his ways, he'll be tormented by hate comments and mail for the rest of his LBP account life. And its his own stupid fault.		2009-09-11 20:36:00

I played that level today.
While it's not the best level I ever played. It's not that bad. I actually enjoyed it.

I left a comment:
"from your rep, I was expecting this level to be a bunch of crap, but actually it's not that bad at all! nice job!

Sadly My little words of encouragement were quickly burried to page 2. I guess you reap what you sew.
