Anyone play an instrument?

Archive: 31 posts

Well, I'm finally in middle school band so I got a clarinet. I got a clarinet because playing brass hurts my mouth, all they have for percussion is the glockenspiel, and the sax is essentially a giant clarinet that's a lot harder. All I can really do right now is play two notes.2009-08-21 01:29:00

The saxophone is NOT a giant clarinet. I actually find it as an instrument all it's own. Saxs have a more squeakier tone, are generally louder, and are the only woodwind instrument made out of brass. Plus, who can think of "The Pink Panther" song WITHOUT thinking of a saxophone?

In case that didn't give it away, I play the saxophone. Tenor sax, to be precise. I've only been playing for about 2 years and am already leagues ahead of others who've played, say, about 3-4 years. A very catchy instrument, if I say so myself.

cool thread!
A lot more room for discussion than "any one play keyboard" , or "anyone play african-thumb-piano"

I used to play clarinet, but lost touch. We said we'd write, and visit at least once a year and on holidays, but we never did.

Now I play mostly Keyboards, guitar, dobro, and harmonica. I Love music. All kinds of music (possible exception c&w).

You should write back to your clarinet Swan. You'd be surprised how easily they come back to you after a long absence
I really would like to learn guitar.

Other than clarinet I also play a touch of drums and harmonica, but mostly piano.

I don't so much play any instruments as I do play with instruments. Another way of saying I have no musical talent whatsoever. But I own a harmonica, a classical style guitar, and a concertina. Actually i've spent some time learning a few simple zelda songs on that last one.
Anyways what everybody here in an instrument forum should look up, are videos on the "hang drum". I just heard about it myself maybe a week ago from one of my brothers. It was invented within the last ten years, only one place in Swiztserland (*I could be wrong about location) makes them, you need to get on a waiting list to get one, and they won't ship it to you. . . you have to make a pilgrimage there to get it. But if you watch any videos of anyone playing one of these, you too will be amazed at their crazy sound. Oh man would it be sweet to have a hang drum. . . or two.

I love the hang drum! I wandered around utube finding cool stuff to mix together, and the hang drum one of my faves.it's just such a wonderfull, mellow sounding insterment!

I posted my mix on Music By Gadders (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=p=269274#post269274)

By the way, you should post some of your concertina music!

The hang drum reminds me of the steel drum, an instrument I so desperately want to LEARN to play. Both sound similar, and they're made out of metal.

But that hang drum... geez, how do them Swiss do that?

I just started lerning to play a dobro. I used to think it was basically a guitar with a metal plate, But then I started lerning to play it.

I guess it's fair to say it's like A guitar with a steel plate.
the strings are really tight, and the action is really high. My poor fingers! I glad It's fashionable to use a slide on a dobro. lol

I play guitar. I have for a couple years. Mostly I've just learned how to play songs and never really got much into the writing aspect. Lately, though, I've tried to work on writing some stuff, and it's really hard.2009-09-12 17:16:00

I studied piano and flute when I was a child, but I'm not that great.
I play at pro levels the guitar (18 years of study), and at a rather good level the bass guitar.
I can even play the drums a bit.

you'd be surprised how many people are willing to drop a couple grand on a guitar just to hang it on the wall, so no, it really doesn't imply an ability or even a desire to play.2009-09-13 02:47:00

I play guitar and made all my music in LBP transcribing from that guitar.

I just uploaded a video of me and me git'arrgh and shared it on here, take a look if you want.

I also dabble in drums, bass, piano and a little banjo!
