So... what happened to editing Mm levels?

Archive: 20 posts

For some reason, I'd forgot about this but I just realized that Mm said we would be able to edit their levels. I wonder why we can't?

Here is the video where Alex Evans says it: YouTube - Little Big Planet How To Make A Level.

I do wish we could just take a peek at their levels. We could learn so much!

I guess it kind of evolved into the templates...

Or devolved.

Yeah, I'd say it sounds similar to the templates.
It would be good if we could take a look at the Mm levels though

Eh I didn't know that ice had already been done..!!
Why didn't they included it in the final game?

Keeping it for a futur pack..?

I didn't hear him say edit the levels.

He says it within the first 20 seconds xD

Also... I WANT ICE!

EIDIT:

@dajdaj03: It was removed because (supposedly) it made the game lag or something. I personally think we'll see it again, because I'm sure Mm could fix it if they tried.

Hey we're getting water right? I don't see how we're not getting ice. Probably why MM didn't have the option of editing tere story levels is cause people will post them as there own. I mean look what happened to the neon coaster and the Japanese shark level.... But i wish we could see them too....2009-08-19 20:38:00

Ice was removed because it was unbalanced, not because of time or technical limitations, to the best of my knowledge.2009-08-19 21:29:00

Yeah it was removed for reasons like if the floor was made completely of ice, you land on it, shake the controller to get out of it and instantly get trapped in ice again.

Story levels use stuff that we don't have, eg introduction level, that light is fake, there is no way to get a light to follow your sackboy like that.

Also that ice is cool

That light was probably created with the player tracking device (P.T.D.). There's a community level that uses the P.T.D. to make a spotlight follow you too.

If that uses a ptd, Mm have a ptd that i haven't built/come across, far too smooth, i was one of the first people to make sucessful following lights, i have 3 levels on them

The problem is the way that the light moves not how it follows, but this is getting way off topic

Didn't this get replaced by templates????????

Having any story level be copyable and then able to be edited on your own Moon is the feature that I was most upset to find missing from the game when it released

How great would it have been to take MM levels apart piece by piece and discover all their great tricks and techniques? Kinda like a more advanced tutorial, where the actual implementation of tools could be demonstrated to curious players.

Ah well, I guess there would have been problems with players copying and publishing the Bunker to just steal a few hundred plays...

I think Mm broke the rules a lot with the introduction, they used a lot of stuff that we don't have for that

We can let them off though because they made an effort not to cheat anywhere else

Hmmm, well until they let us dissect all of their levels, we really can't be sure...

But yeah, I guess the most egregious things they did are the use of titles, video and global lighting in the Introduction....oh and also their pink text magic mouths. I'm still curious what else they might have cheated on, like possibly extra thermo space.

Well they had things like the global lighting and coloured lasers in levels other than the intro.

I wouldn't be suprised if they used some extra thermo in some places, although it is their game so they'd know how to keep the thermometer low.

The ps3 would definatly be able to cope with a larger thermometer, it's just kept lower to stop idiots from making everyones game crash or damaging their ps3.
It's possible to make the game really laggy with the current limitations, imagine what it would be like if they raised the bar a little bit
