Glow material/ Texture Editor
Archive: 8 posts
Texture Editing options and glow material. These are the two things I think i'd most often wished I had in create mode. A texture editor could make crisp edge sponges. . . or get rid of all the little bubbles on the floaty material, or smooth out the wrinkles in the foil giving you a sweet looking mirror material! (though I don't think the foil reflects anything. . . maybe it should) Texture editing would give you a lot more control over the visual style of your levels. Glow material would have all the tweakable properties of the various lights ect color, brightness, foggyness but it could be any size and shape you like. The closest thing now to glow material is the neon out-lined metal from the mgs pack i think. Anyway I've seen some pretty sweet stuff done with that. So yeah, these are the things I'd like to see become a reality, and given that MM is bringing us water, it seems like these don't have to be just a wishful creator's dream. | 2009-08-19 16:13:00 Author: squirlin Posts: 224 |
I like your idea about the Texture Editor, I don't use sponge alot cause it's hard to know the edges of the sponge. Glow material, not my thing, if I were going to make a glowing material, I could just put LED Lights or a Fairy Light inside, but then cover with a 1-plane. | 2009-08-19 16:17:00 Author: Unknown User |
You can make sharp edged sponge and flat floaty using a glitch. Just make material as if you were trying to make invisible dark matter, then smear it with L3. It has all posts of strange effects, some of which are fairly useful. | 2009-08-19 16:51:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
glitches arent features. | 2009-08-19 17:05:00 Author: Deftmute Posts: 730 |
There will always be ways to duplicate or simulate these desired effects. And I don't want to downplay the creativity involved in trying to do so. . . but the fact is, a legitimate tool or material would save your thermometer, save your time, and give you results more accurate to your vision. But we work with what we got, so thanks for the tips- i may have to mess around a bit in create mode soon. | 2009-08-19 17:39:00 Author: squirlin Posts: 224 |
that would be cool, the texture edit one would be epic, create new visual styles, this would be awesome | 2009-08-19 18:12:00 Author: springs86 Posts: 785 |
A way to (kind of) get a glow material is to use thin strips of the MGS VR materials. They emit some light but only red, green and blue is available. If you glue loas of strips together then it may look like all one glowing object. | 2009-08-19 20:22:00 Author: S-A-S--G-U-N-R Posts: 1606 |
