GOTY - The 18 creators?
Archive: 157 posts
I'm just as interested as anyone probably is to find out who else got to make one of the 18 levels in the GOTY edition. So, here's a handy list of the ones we know so far: jump_button gevurah22 rz22g Nuclearfish Cstrfrk geosautus x-nobody-x aardsy Blorf Foofles Anyone got any ideas who the others could be? | 2009-08-19 11:53:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
Geosautus!!!! World of Colour 2.0 anyone? Oooh and gevurah! Yay! Aardsy did Prism Prison, right? I don't know of anyone else, but thanks for posting this | 2009-08-19 12:01:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
Thanks for the list. On another note, Geosautus is making a level? Maybe that's what he's been doing all this time. Seems that he hasn't stopped playing LBP after all. | 2009-08-19 13:46:00 Author: lk9988 Posts: 1077 |
Im suspecting Teebonesy. I mean, his levels seem to be liked by Mm since one of them was in the '1 Million Levels' video. Plus he has just started to become active around here again....coincidence? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....... | 2009-08-19 14:02:00 Author: Mr_T-Shirt Posts: 1477 |
Not Teebonesy. He just sent me a message last night and we were talking about the goty edition for a while. He should be there though. his levels are incredible. My suspicions are that it's people that SONY found, because they're the ones that are involved in this. If my suspicions are right, they probably found most of these people through littlebigworkshop and their blog. Some of the people who are already on this list are so good, that they probably found them through sheer word of mouth though. how about the libidius guy? could he be one? I wonder if someone like Rayvolution would be on this list? He seemed to be pretty big over at workshop. | 2009-08-19 14:08:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
Wexfordian (keeping it a secret) NinjaMicWZ AAAlone jackofcourse (keeping it a secret) mdaj poms Dr_Vab FeistyFrog biddle666 maybe they're possibilities. | 2009-08-19 14:15:00 Author: oldage Posts: 2824 |
Is anyone else a little jealous of these extremely lucky folks? Not like I have room to complain or anything. | 2009-08-19 14:18:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
How could jackofcourse have made another level over the past few month? He has been releasing one after another lately. I wouldn't have mind creating one for MM, but I suppose there are many creators better than me. :-) | 2009-08-19 14:19:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
I don't think jack is one of them, unfortunately. I don't think ninja is, either, but I could be wrong. | 2009-08-19 14:20:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
mmnnnnn...... I have no idea who could be on the list | 2009-08-19 14:45:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
What about the guy who did Tube Racer? Something in that video looked a lot like Tube Racer. Also, what about Qugz? | 2009-08-19 14:51:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
What about candyk? No doubt the best creator ever IMO. | 2009-08-19 14:56:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
I was one of them. | 2009-08-19 14:59:00 Author: dsgeeno1 Posts: 76 |
ah, yes. Are you the one who won that one contest, dsgeeno1? or am I thinking of someone else? Either way, congrats! | 2009-08-19 15:01:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
Yes, he won the contest. Congrats! | 2009-08-19 15:04:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
Just Fibbing I only wish I was a part of this Is anyone else a little jealous of these extremely lucky folks? Not like I have room to complain or anything. Youre not the only one trust me Sorry for lying Congrats to the 18, they have sealed their place in lbp history. Ps yeah I won the contest...so I guess I should'nt feel jealous....ohhh but I do | 2009-08-19 15:09:00 Author: dsgeeno1 Posts: 76 |
Oooooh! *hates you* j/k Still 9 to find then... | 2009-08-19 15:11:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
Hah hah hah. that was actually a pretty funny joke. I got on sony's blog for the crown animation, so I shouldn't be jealous either . I'm actually quite happy for these people and happy that individual creators are actually getting such press for their talent. ^_^ | 2009-08-19 15:16:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

You got a reeeallly high pitched voice lol! | 2009-08-19 15:23:00 Author: dsgeeno1 Posts: 76 |
Lol, well, I don't really have a high pitched voice, but I can make it high pitched. That's pretty much the extent of my "voice acting abilities" Edit: By the way. Add Foofles to the list. | 2009-08-19 15:28:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

To help with the speculation, we were first contacted by Sony around March time (I think, it was so long ago I can't remember). So it probably won't be anyone who didn't make very much before then. If they had chosen people now, the quality of levels is so much higher, there's no way I'd have been chosen. I'm still suprised that I was. | 2009-08-19 16:38:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |

My levels are so ordinary and simple. I see levels out there that you can tell the creator put tons of thought into it. Its no secret my tank is the only thing that got me considered and now there are lots of tanks out there that exceed mine. Still though I was glad to do it. Any of the 18 here that will be in Valley Village, CA this Sat? (Aug 22) | 2009-08-19 16:53:00 Author: rz22g Posts: 340 |
Why is no one considering the possibility of some unknown, albeit genius, Japanese creator out there? Many of them could surely make some levels for this... | 2009-08-19 16:54:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |

How about xkappax? I'm not one. I kinda feel bad about myself because of that. I got chosen by mm along with 3 others to make something for the beta though. ^_^ | 2009-08-19 16:55:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

Thank you for thinking of me but unfortunately I wasn't asked. They knew I would cost too much From the people that were picked so far it looks like people who had popular levels even before march. remember, even though people were asked in march, sony would have to have picked these people well in advance before asking them. | 2009-08-19 17:07:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
I think the list would be a lot different if they were picked now, seeing how lbp changes and evolves so much. Wex, you'd definitely be on that list. So would gruntos and jackofcourse. Not to mention many others here. | 2009-08-19 17:10:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
All I know is that I'm really jealous of any of those creators that's for sure. What they live right now simply is my dream and as a person working for being level designer in real life, it hurts to obviously not being noticed by anybody. It really makes you think along the lines: "Well, do I suck? Should I re-orient my career in plumbery?". | 2009-08-19 17:14:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
Funny you mention that. I was chatting with johnee last night and he has been a self employed builder since he was 16 right up until a few months ago! Im delighted for him and he really deserves it. Hes a really nice guy as well as a greator designer. It also goes to show MM are willing to overlook qualifications etc and judge a person on the quality of their work. I think we would all love the opertunity to do something official for MM, so all we can do is be happy for the great people who have been asked already and keep trying to improve our own work in the meantime. Quality always shines though in the end | 2009-08-19 17:20:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
What about O-tera? wasn't he spotlighted or something by MM awhile back | 2009-08-19 17:21:00 Author: Shris Posts: 126 |
that's very true, wex. And you guys all have to remember that these people were chosen back then and lbp was actuallly a very different place back then. I know I was struggling TERRIBLY back then to get any sort of recognition. Also, lbpcentral is a lot more in the public eye than it was back then. Creators here were generally wonderful back in march, but not as widely recognized as some of the people from workshop. I will say this though, if you guys want something to make you feel better: Even though the goty edition has already had creators chosen for it, all hope is not lost. Afterall, I was chosen by media molecule to do something for them back in june, and so was grant, jackofcourse and ninjamicwz. If I was chosen to do something like that, then ANYTHING is possible. There will be other chances for littlebigfame, trust me! ^_^ and yes, otera is probably a possibility. | 2009-08-19 17:26:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
Why? Your levels are awsim, I hearted all your levels. | 2009-08-19 17:28:00 Author: Unknown User |

And I understand it's not the same now as it was back in March but i'm here since November. What about unlucky and eternal underground creators like me heh? Seriously I really feel bad today :/ . | 2009-08-19 17:29:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
no no no. We're not. We got asked to do something else. For the beta! But my point was that MM and Sony will probably continue picking people to make levels for them. They'll continue spotlighting people. All hope is not lost! I feel bad, too, Ranger. I feel bad too. But I'm trying to put a positive spin on it. Have faith. Things have gotten so much better for creators since then. | 2009-08-19 17:33:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

What about unlucky and eternal underground creators like me heh? Seriously I really feel bad today :/ . No, xkappax, Jackofcourse, Ninja, and Grantos are not of the 18. They were asked to do something for MM that is totally unrelated and you may not get to see.... (well, we'll see) As for feeling bad - Only 18 were chosen. Out of the thousands of creators on earth, 18. So, don't feel bad. | 2009-08-19 17:34:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
Seriously I really feel bad today :/ . You might not. You have done incredible levels and a lot of people here know it! And as Ccubbage said, there is only 18 choosen creators.... | 2009-08-19 17:42:00 Author: Takelow Posts: 1355 |

If they had chosen people now, the quality of levels is so much higher, there's no way I'd have been chosen. I'm still suprised that I was. Yes, I was contacted in late March. I also feel similar, but I gave it my all and am really happy with the level. I'm sure that others will really enjoy it, and I really hope it inspires people to create fun things. I'd love to play them. | 2009-08-19 17:43:00 Author: Risen Posts: 251 |

It really makes you think along the lines: "Well, do I suck? Should I re-orient my career in plumbery?". I know how you feel Ranger. I'm also trying my best to get into the games industry, and something like this would of been a dream opportunity for me. I know I won a world trip, and that is seriously a once in a life time sort of thing which I am extremely excited about and gratefull for but I would swap that for a job at Mm in a heartbeat (I'm sure my gf would have something to say about that though!) , I work as a IT technician...People always think its great to know what you want to do in life...and it is except that everyday that youre not doing what you want to be doing...is difficult to say the least. These creators have achieved something great and I'm sure they all deserve and appreciate it | 2009-08-19 17:44:00 Author: dsgeeno1 Posts: 76 |
While It'd be great to design levels, but I am an animator and comic book artist. I got my animation smack dab on the front page of sony's blog. Several thousand views later, I have ABSOLUTELY no reason to complain. Everyone wants to be littlebigfamous, and I understand that. As far as fame in that game goes, I know that if you want that sort of thing, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to the game. I've almost been playing a year. In the beginning, I couldn't get ANYONE to notice me and it was AWFUL. While I'm far from "famous", the community has completely changed, and grown, and people eventually started to play my levels and watch my animation. Ranger, your levels just keep getting better and better, so don't you dare give up. You'll get there, I have confidence in you. You've struggled for too long and worked too hard. | 2009-08-19 17:50:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
Well, you guys are somehow cheering me up a bit but just imagine my position right now. I'm sitting at my desk, here at Ubisoft Montreal. It's lunch break for us right now. Assassin's Creed 2's QA. I AM working in the industry right now, I just want to change departments. It seems to be hard to do so even internally. Not that I was counting on LBP to help me have some recognition and then use it for change departments here but that certainly wouldn't hurt either. Now you see 18 plumbers out there (lol, j/k) getting recognised in a totally cool way just by pure talent. Ok well, X-nobody-X got recognised too but there are exceptions to every rule right? (x-nobody-x could probably be a level artist in real life though, in all honesty he can pull nice visuals) . | 2009-08-19 17:51:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
Just like anything else, this was all about being in the right place at the right time. The people who were chosen were in the spotlight at that moment. If you wave yourself under sony's nose enough, perhaps they'll eventually notice and say "hey, look at this guy!" ^_^ Also, you might be surprised to know this, but even x-nobody-x had to beg for plays on littlebigworkshop in the beginning. | 2009-08-19 17:53:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

All you budding creators who feel bad for not being picked and are thinking 'No way...I thought I was in the top 18 best creators'... Do not worry, if x-nobody-x was asked then it is fair to say they definitely weren't picked on talent or skill haha I can safely remove any speculation on myself being part of it too. If people were chosen back in March then I only had Flaming Timberland 1 and 2 out then and was still pretty much unknown. I still wouldn't consider myself to be that well known now, I'm only known on here and LBW really...I'm definitely unknown to Mm anyway... haha | 2009-08-19 19:09:00 Author: jackofcourse Posts: 1494 |
For what it's worth, I think x-nobody-x is a pretty darned good creator, too. I loved his house level. One of my favorites. I think the people on the list are skilled enough, but I think the problem is that because of how fast this game is evolving, some of the people who were considered outstanding back then and chosen for GOTY have, several months later, been surpassed by someone far more talented. And, for some on the list of 18, that is not the case, and they are still creating and turning out wonderful work. Five months from now, there could be someone who is 2,000,000 times better than anyone on these forums right now. It just has to do with the nature of this game. And this is not a slight against any person on the list. I find you all to be very talented in your own right. | 2009-08-19 19:47:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
Speaking of that, I intend to start work on something again soon.. I know it's been a while. | 2009-08-19 19:51:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |

This could be out topic, but wouldn?t it be a good a idea that MM released a Blue ray with ?The best 70 online levels? level 1, level 2? every X time, giving some $ to the creators? I?d love to have in a disc most of my preferred user levels? I?d run to buy it. | 2009-08-19 20:04:00 Author: poms Posts: 383 |

Im surprised nobody has mentioned Ciao_PSN, his last level was a Mario one and that was quite a few months ago. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he had gotten picked. Also, how about Wyth? ... he made those Jack McSetback (I think that's what they are called) levels awhile back and hasn't done anything since then. I remember him saying the new Jack McSetback level would be out by June/July.... nothing so far... Btw, I'm pretty ****** that geosautus is part of that group, I have been looking forward to another level from him for months and I'm pretty sad that they are only going to be on the disk =[ .... Besides, you could say he is the only Great creator from that list. | 2009-08-19 20:49:00 Author: TheFirstAvenger Posts: 787 |

I wouldn't say he's the only great creator from that list - maybe the highest profile (although I would say gevurah22 (David Dino) is pretty darn high profile and much better for hardcore gamers) I think ALL the authors so far on the list are great creators. To this day I've played Blorf's Metal Revolution more than any other level in LittleBigPlanet (and I've held the high score for over 6 months). | 2009-08-19 20:55:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |

And I'll have to try out Metal Revolution =] .....I'm still trying think of creators of had great levels out around March...hmm how about the Japanese guy who made the Shark levels?? gevurah22's Contra level is pretty incredible, and his Mobile Suit Armorboy level has some fantastic mechanics (plus fighting the serpent in Azure Palace never really gets old for me). I agree he hasn't come out with a huge amount, but talent-wise he's excellent. To me, a great creator is more about how much impact the levels have more than the quantity. But then, greatness is certainly subjective. | 2009-08-19 21:06:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
Wexfordian (keeping it a secret) NinjaMicWZ AAAlone jackofcourse (keeping it a secret) mdaj poms Dr_Vab FeistyFrog biddle666 maybe they're possibilities. Nope I'm not one of them. Back in March not a single one of my levels even had 1,000 plays. Maybe feistyfrog (Dinosaur Island) may be one of the 18 though. Someone mentioned that Sony may have had more to do with the pickins, meaning that people with higher profiles at the Workshop and blog may have stood a better chance. That sounds quite plausible to me. Does anyone know exactly how these guys are getting paid? Is it a flat fee or royalties? I'm imagining a flat fee, I highly doubt Sony would want to pony up points for what they probably view as "free content". But it would be fair. How cool would it be if the community creators continued to receive checks in the mail as long as the game continued to sell? Anyway, I'm extremely bummed that i won't be able to play these levels. I ain't buying no game of the year edition! I've got the game! I paid 70 bucks for it! I really hope that these levels become widely available after some time. Otherwise I guess I'll have to just "experience" them through youtube videos. Although, if I find out that the creators are receiving royalties, I might reconsider and buy a disc just so's I can put a few more pennies in their pockets. | 2009-08-19 22:30:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
I'd like to think that the 18 levels would come out eventually as a level pack. Even if we had to pay for the pack, it would be better than buying the GOTY version for them. I can't see us never having access to these levels and it would be suicide by SONY/MM to kick their loyal followers of the game down like that. | 2009-08-19 22:42:00 Author: dorien Posts: 2767 |
All you budding creators who feel bad for not being picked and are thinking 'No way...I thought I was in the top 18 best creators'... I doubt any of us feel that way. I personally have nothing against any of the people on the list, if Mm picked them then they deserve to be there. Just saying I would of liked to have been a part of that...not saying I SHOULD HAVE BEEN A PART OF THAT! | 2009-08-19 22:51:00 Author: dsgeeno1 Posts: 76 |
I doubt any of us feel that way. I personally have nothing against any of the people on the list, if Mm picked them then they deserve to be there. Just saying I would of liked to have been a part of that...not saying I SHOULD HAVE BEEN A PART OF THAT! Yeah I didn't mean it quite so literally. I was just commenting on a few people being a bit bummed that they're not part of it. That alone implies that they think they deserve to have been picked, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that. No one is taking anything away from the people that were picked, of course they deserve to be there. That being said, it doesn't mean others aren't allowed to think they're good enough to have been chosen too. After all, greatness is subjective | 2009-08-19 22:55:00 Author: jackofcourse Posts: 1494 |
That being said, it doesn't mean others aren't allowed to think they're good enough to have been chosen too. After all, greatness is subjective Oh ofcourse I totally agree, I think I'm good enough and I'm sure alot of you feel the same way about yourselves. That's only natural. Just wanted to point out that me wanting be a part of it is in no way related to the named creators just that its my desire to become a games designer so naturally this would have meant alot to me. | 2009-08-19 23:13:00 Author: dsgeeno1 Posts: 76 |

Someone mentioned that Sony may have had more to do with the pickins, meaning that people with higher profiles at the Workshop and blog may have stood a better chance. That sounds quite plausible to me. That may have been the case. But I think it also probably had a lot to do with MM picks and stuff (which my levels never were, but I had one in the news section in the game). Looking at the list most if not all the creators there had a level featured by MM in some way. And Darkness_bear... he has to be one of them, | 2009-08-20 00:02:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |

How about MonkeyButler? He's the creator of the Silent Hill level (his only level).... I don't remeber exactly which month but I know that a couple months ago a locked level popped on his planet... It's remained locked ever since.... They say that for the Game of the Year levels, Sony locks the creators' souls up inside the very levels they're creating... So when you see a locked level mysteriously popping up on someone's moon... *shudder* I heard that when you play his Silent Hill level, you hear a whisper in the air... nobody is sure exactly what it says, but some have heard "help me... game of the year... trapped... heeelp..." | 2009-08-20 00:52:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

I have a feeling AntonioLadrillo and JackIsBack999 are two of the lucky 18. Their piramides and Pixalation 1.0 levels respectively were both MM Picks not to mention both featured heavily in the 1 Million Levels ad. Personally, I hope sickivionky got chosen. TRIAL of SEASONS part 1 remains one of my favourite levels to this day, but despite being a MM Pick still remains relatively unknown. There's nothing in the levels that you couldn't already make yourself. I think we had to submit them just as the Monster Kit was released, so we used everything before that. Some of the levels porbably give away some prizes (but mine doesn't). Also, DarknessBear is not one of the 18. Surprising, eh? | 2009-08-23 19:59:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |

Some of the levels porbably give away some prizes (but mine doesn't). Mine does. They are a mix of mostly scenery and gameplay devices encountered in the level, so you can use the pieces in building your own. I'd be suprised if they didn't get paid. A commercial company outsourcing talent to produce work for a commercial product that it intends to sell to the public for profit... I'd expect them to be paying the contractors. Anyway, I speculated on a different thread that there would be a non-disclosure on the financial arrangements and Blorf confirmed that to be the case. This suggests to me that they were paid and quite likely they were paid differing amounts (or maybe I am being too cynical on the latter part of that ) | 2009-08-25 16:22:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

Honestly, the fair thing would be to give you guys some royalty points. Keep getting checks in the mail. That would be awesome. I imagine it was a flat fee though. I hope they were able to throw you somewhere in the neighborhood of $500. Scratch your ear if that's correct. Rub your nose if it's incorrect. *ahem* | 2009-08-25 21:27:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

3 separate paychecks, eh? not too shabby! Well then, i guess it's safe to assume it was a hundred dollars or so for each paycheck. *pause* No... $150 each time? So, 450 total? TWO HUNDRED? Two hundred each time?? Not a bad haul! That gives Sony a little more than a $10,000 budget for the GOTY Edition's new content. Considering how much they're going to actually make on this, I'd say that's a quite modest. I mean, they have $50,000 grants out there to fund little 10 minute short films. By the way, I know I'm just being annoying, you don't have to actually answer me. Does sound exciting though! Looking forward to seeing your interview. I'm sure it's not as bad as you think. So the video interview, was it mainly you giving an introduction to your level? What sorts of questions did they ask? | 2009-08-25 23:05:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
To each their own.. but personally I suggest refraining for ANY details at all concerning pay. One person here has already admitted that someone in the 18 told them how much they were paid. They did not say who told them or the amount but if that person were found out, they are in breach of contract. Even information that might not be a direct breach of contract might be taken into consideration if it came time for some other project. | 2009-08-25 23:12:00 Author: rz22g Posts: 340 |

They did not say who told them or the amount but if that person were found out, they are in breach of contract. You're right, nobody needs to disclose how much. But honestly, it's not a big deal. This is sort of a first-time-ever type of situation, where community members were given a chance to create custom levels for a game re-release, and paid for their work. Nothing like it has ever been done before, as far as I know. I'm sure it's to be expected that a few of the participants get excited and share their stories with their curious friends. | 2009-08-25 23:15:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

I must say I am expecting outrageously good things from these levels. If Sony have hand picked creators to create something for an actual release then I think it's fair to say they should be of the highest calibre. I'm so anxious to hear people's impressions on everything. Here's mine: great stuff! You're very inventive in how you use materials and decorations in your level. The giant rockets for plasma barriers are great and as I mentioned in another thread, the egg crates with MGS decorations on them were especially neat. Overall it made a great atmosphere. Gameplay was good; difficulty was fine and nice platforming/timing puzzles without being too complicated. The story was fun, too. There was some nice humor in there. Bottom line: you have a level to be proud of. | 2009-09-10 15:16:00 Author: Risen Posts: 251 |
Thanks I can't wait to get started on my next one, I think I'll try to have it done by the time water comes out and make another after that! | 2009-09-10 18:06:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |

LOL... Watched my interview for the first time today. Can you get more southern? Also see I need to lay off the tequilla and stop laying around on the couch I have only been able to play a few levels so far. X-nobody-X , foofles and cat burglar (can't recall name " candy " something. All cool levels, doing exactly what Sony intended, which is offering a mixture of styles to the newcomers that buy the lbp goty edition. Good job. | 2009-09-12 02:28:00 Author: rz22g Posts: 340 |
