To delete or not to delete?

Archive: 10 posts

That is the question!

1) Ok, so on my level 'Monster's Lair' a fellow player has commented on my wall 'I hearted so please heart me back not my levels me as an author.' Now, I'm not a H4H kind of person. If someone hearts my levels, I want it to be because they like them, not in return for a heart. So, being the fair person that I was, I had a go on some of the levels of this particular author and did not find them to my taste. I also realised that although the play counter had not risen, the heart counter had, it therefore seems this author hearted my level without actually playing it. So, do I delete the comment or not?

Dilemma 2: Another author has commented on my 'Sackboy's Adventure in Egupt' level that he is going to publish a 'crazy awesome' egypt level. No comments about my level, just an advertisement for his. Thought this was a little bit cheeky, and although I know everyone wants to promote their levels, I thought this was going a bit far, it almost seemed like a 'my level is going to be better than yours post'. So, do I delete it, or will that make me seem like a plonker???

I always think that when I see an author has deleted comments, that those comments were saying something bad about the level, so if I delete them will people assume that?

Your thoughts please...

I tend to just ignore comments like that. Then its a waste of their time and not mine. Deleting the comments is the second best option. 2009-08-18 19:38:00

Yeah its just best to ignore any comments involving hearts. Even if they didn't play it at all and if they remove it because you didin't do anything for them, just let it go.2009-08-18 19:41:00

Sounds like the grown up thing to do. I will not let my anti-H4H anger get the better of me! Thanks folks! 2009-08-18 19:44:00

Assinate both, dump the bodys.

Or delete both.

I go for option 1 though.

I don't think many people looking at your level will take the H4H / Spam comments seriously. I got one yesterday: "nice level, please play mine, I'll H4H". Genuine comments on my level don't say "nice", so I just responded in the comments with:

"Don't lie to me <insert PSN>, you didn't play me level at all :'("

The comments are meh. Filling it up with "comment deleted by author" looks no better than having it there - I say leave them.

Could the latter comment not have been inspired by the user having just finished your level? Saying he is going to publish does not seem entirely like an advertisement considering he apparently has naught to advertise(?).2009-08-22 07:26:00

I some times put a little "H4H WILL BE DELETED" in my description. it doesn't really seem to have an effect on way or the other, but I at least feel I've given fair warning, and happily hit the delete button with free conscience.2009-08-22 09:01:00

Thanks for your thoughts guys

The guy I was speaking about did in fact publish an egyptian level, which (I really do hate to say) was awful, so I think I'll leave the comment - he probably needs all the help he can get. It just grated on me a little, as I've never advertised my levels on others' comment boards - I only ever write 'nice level ' etc if I think so!

I decided just to leave the comments in, I'm not a H4H-er, so if they are only hearting to get plays they'll be sorely disappointed!

Anyway...going to have a play on some of the showcase levels now!
